Fertility clinics and results

Fertility clinics and results

Postby happieout » Tue May 08, 2022 9:37 pm

Just wondering what the procedure is with your fertility clinic?
We got bad news over the phone on Friday, devastating, dh took the call and said he was given the results like they were talking about a match. No discussion followed.
We then had to drive a couple of hours home.
Is it procedure to give results over the phone? I thought we were treated badly, I know it's all stressful but am I expecting too much?

Happieout: I'm really sorry to hear that you did get bad news :action32
I'm attending SIMS and as far as I know the policy is that they do call with the news "good or bad".
My only experience of "bad news" was after getting positive pregnancy tests at my last FET and having to go in to confirm what was happening with a blood test. They had to ring to say that my HCG readings were falling and that it essentially had not worked. However the nurse was very kind on the end of the phone even though I was half expecting that result. I also got a call from the councellor to see how I was. I think this is standard at SIMS if you have bad news.

Thanks for reply, it must have been awful to get that news.

S&ms we are dealing with too, basically they said there was no sperm in analysis and he couldn't explain it. Previous sa had a good result, 6 weeks earlier. We were so shocked, we were in dundrum s c at the time and I don't know how we managed to get home.
I'm disgusted with their behaviour, we were just told to book in for another sa and when we rang the desk it was closed. So nobody to help us all weekend. It was horrendous.
I'm considering mOving clinics

Happieout: I really wouldn't change clinics over that. My OH recieved the very same news from SIMS (Completely wrapped up in myself and forgot all about that, as it seems ages ago). He got the news whilst walking me into work on a busy road and it really wasn't condusive to questioning the person at the end of the line.
In his case it was the lab that rang .I'm sure it was the same with you and I guess they are just scientists at the end of the day dealing with facts and figures.
I think you must also understand that receiving news of no sperm in a sample is quite devestating for a bloke........my fellow was pretty low for days and kinda blocked it out :o(
However I have seen loads of posts where samples can vary quite wildly so he should give another sample to see what the story is :action32

Im with Si*ms too and cannot fault them. I think you would be cutting off your nose despite your face if you left them. They are the best in the country. We have also been given bad news over the phone, and like you when we tried to call back as talking about it in work isnt exactly a runner, the lines were closed. Its not their fault they have to give bad news, they are just doing their jobs as professionally as they can. I know its awful that moment when you hear it, its such a sinking feeling and I totally empathise with you but evem my GP now gives results over the phone and when we had a consult at Lister in London and I had amh test done, they left the results on my voicemail!!
I would deinately not leave sims. Hope everything works out for you xxx

Thanks for your replies girls. Good to know that this is policy, I'm being careful not to project our total upset over the results at the clinic. I'm not going to change clinics, I don't want the wait, so I'll swallow what I feel for their medical expertise.
It was the doctor who rang, I suppose I expected some reason for such different results, we've since discussed it with our gp who finds it hard to believe the difference.
Thanks for the good wishes, dh went for another sa yesterday at our local hospital, we'll get results today, please god there'll be something there, we are finding it hard to sleep or eat. please god there'll be something there.
Best of luck to you both, you've both been through a lot, I need to toughen up don't I? never realised how tough this could feel

happieout, sorry to hear about this, put i 2nd that sims are best in the country, what they may fall down in people skills they make up in doing the best job possible,
i know 2010mrs's hubbie got the same news and they were able to ivf by aspirating sperm out of the testes i think, so just cause none in sample doesn't mean he has none, you should drop her a mail, she's lovely!!
also your dh could take coq10 great for sperm and maca, plus NHP fertility plus for men that, you can get all this in health food shop at top of dundrum sc or ny good health food shop.
i know its rotten news, but when you know exactly what your dealing with you will know the exact treatment you need, which is an advantage over someone with unexplained infertility.
i found out tubes were blocked so we went straight to ivf, no beating around the bush, and i have to say i found it a peice of cake, injections were so easy, and 14 days after starting i know have to embies on board, and praying for sticky beans!!!!

thanks girls, great to hear positive stories, I pm'd 2010Mrs over the weekend and she was great to reply, so I feel like we'll get there somehow. I'm just so wound up and stressed out, I feel like the slightest thing could tip me over. Have to keep thinking positive I suppose. No results today yet but hopefully tomorrow and we'll see where we go from there.
Best of luck to you all on your journeys and thanks again, I really appreciate the replies.

Hi Happieout - PM's you there X
We were the same with the bad news!! We were off in the car and they rang DH, he was so shocked they just said the results were bad and to make an appointment the next week to see the Dr in the clinic
When he told me I was there did they say how bad! Not expecting zero!!!!
I think they are just so professional in their dealings that it sometimes comes across as clinical in a way
AS the other girls say the SIMS is a great clinic and if you get the positive result you need thats all that matters.. hopefully the next news you get is GOOD :lvs :lvs :lvs
TTC since June 2010
