UK H2B needs to place ad in paper??!

Hi all, Just organising paperwork for our wedding in Spain this July. I have my certificate from the Department of Foreign Affairs but organising the H2B paperwork seems way more complicated. According to the embassy he needs to place an ad in the newspaper stating our intention to marry! He contacted a few papers and they are looking for hundreds! This seems crazy! Does he need to do this? Anyone have any advice?!

Who has asked you to do that? Is it legal? Does it need to be placed in a newspaper in Ireland? Or does your title mean a UK newspaper? Are there loopholes... Like could you ring a local paper rather than a national one? They charge per letter. I know that when I have placed bereavement and in memoriam notices, they have charged per letter and a message of a few lines can work out about 40 quid upwards.Or would you get away with placing a notice in a Church bulletin??
