Why are people so opinionated and critical?
I associate rants with people who are really mad and need to get something off their chest. I'm not mad but just terrribly terribly sad and disappointed with some people. Why do people give such critical opinions when it comes to other peoples weddings? Like honestly, it's their day, not yours. Why do they feel the need to say 'oh I didnt like her dress'. Fair enough u didnt like it, but she obviously did. No one is asking you to wear it. Can people not just be happy for others? Esp on their wedding day. It might not be to your taste, but it is to theirs. You've probably agonized over ur wedding dress for weeks/months too so you know the hard work that goes into every decision at a wedding. so please dont be so loud in your opinion. You may think you are discrete in what u are saying, but more often than not, you arent. And what you said made it back to the people you were being critical about.
I cant say im not opinionated when it comes to looking at magazines, tv etc of others weddings. When you are getting married, you are going to automatically look closer at things that you never even noticed before. And that is fine. But just please, think before you speak. Or at least leave your opinion until AFTER the big day has passed. Would you like it done to you? Re: Why are people so opinionated and critical?
It's just human nature to have an opinion. There isn't necessarily badness in it.
If someone doesn't want to be commented on, then they shouldn't host a public event.
Re: Why are people so opinionated and critical?
I agree penguinkisses, it sounds like something that actually happened to someone you know, did it?
Its OK to have an opinion, but some people can be mean about it, almost like they enjoy hurting other people, and like to see they have annoyed, angered or upset someone. Its a cheap thrill being cut throat. I know plenty of people like it and its nasty. There is having an opinion on something and then there is attending someones wedding where decisions have clearly already been made. You have to know when to have a little tact and in that situation the time is clearly then. I know on my wedding day I will not be looking for peoples approval or opinions, I will have made all the decisions before hand and asked all the opinions from the people that matter to me in the run up to the wedding. I will simply be looking for them to relax enjoy the food, music, dancing and company. And if I thought they were people who would be nasty, then they wouldn't be invited to begin with ![]() [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Not quite sure if you are referring to "real life" or some critical posts here on WOL??
I think on WOL that people can hide behind a username and feel more comfortable giving their honest opinion which may appear critical or negative. But its still their opinion. People who post details / photos of their wedding on WOL or appear on a TV show like say Francs DIY Brides are leaving themselves wide open to be criticised IMO. I dont think I would be mean about someones dress or whatever even on WOL but others have no issue stating their thoughts and I think they are fully entitled to do so if someone makes their wedding "public" [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Re: Why are people so opinionated and critical?
I feel the need to be a little bit more specific as I think some ppl may think I'm being ott. I Was part of a wedding party on Saturday.had one guest come up to me and say that they liked my dress but in the same breath say it wudnt be one they wud have chosen. Fair enough if u wudnt choose it for ur bms but im wearning it at the moment and uv just made me feel crap. Also another person gave out about the food to me. The bride heard some things back that ppl said. It was just a little disappoitjng that ppl felt the need to tell me. I'm All for freedom of speech and opinions on forums like this etc and agree that those who go on reality tv shows are leaving themselves wide open. I'm just saddened by some people who seem to hVe a negative word to say on others weddings day. I know I am defo guilty of having an opinion when it comes to everything-isn't everyone- but please choose ur moments wisely
Re: Why are people so opinionated and critical?
Well now that you've explained the situation you were in, I totally agree with you. God I'd die if I heard anyone at my Wedding making comments or giving out. I would be devastated. Not to mention the fact that it is the height of rudeness to be invited as a guest to someone's wedding and make snide or negative comments, whether in the earshot of the Wedding party or not! Some people have no manners, tact or graciousness at all

Well there is no excuse for saying that too you about the dress, that was rude, especially when you are wearing it. I wonder about the food? Is there a possibility they were telling you about the food so that you would say it to the bride and groom? Like everyone tastes vary I know but I have been to weddings where some of the food would be awful and it would be the general opinion of most of the guests, in that case I think the couple should be told (in a nice way of course, but maybe that was their nice way - saying it to a member of the bridal party??) Obviously it depends on how it was said, but I would rather know if it was me (if it was a a big problem not just Aunty Mary having a moan).
Re: Why are people so opinionated and critical?
I don't really agree with that Fi. You may think there may not be badness in the comments but they are rude. I think if someone can't hold their tongue and mind their manners at an event that they have been invited to, especially such a personal and special day, then they shouldn't go. A wedding is not a public event. It's a private, invitation only event. Re: Why are people so opinionated and critical?
Of course people are entitled to opinions, but some people get carried away with this and think they can say what they like and no one can get offended because it is "their opinion". What an awful thing to say after being invited to someones wedding. When she said that about your dress you should have said something like "yeah not everyone can pull it off, probably best if you stick to something easier..."
Re: Why are people so opinionated and critical?
ah sure you know what!!! there are some rights dopes out there! its all well and good to voice your opinion about a dress or food or band or whatever with your other half at home afterwards but doing it within earshot of the person or directly to the person well thats just plain bitchiness!!!!
my own wedding day had the groomsmans girlfriend giving out and saying that our wedding was a circus that she didnt know anyone on her table! tbh anyone that did know her rang us a week before and apologised but begged not to be put on her table !!!! she even complained that she should have been sitting at the top table with the bridal party! loser!!! as if! im a firm believer however in "if they are talking or giving out about you then they are leaving someone else alone" and im fine with that! my only problem is i tend not to let things go! and although it will mean that she has gotton to me I will get payback! its only a matter of time!
