Late again!

Late again!

Postby Elizabeth Bennett » Fri May 11, 2022 4:52 pm

Why can people not turn up when they are supposed to. YES i know you will turn up as usual over an hour late apologizing profusely and I will smile and say "no problem" and you will do the exact same thing next time. If you can't be on time can you at least have the manners to text/call me to tell me when you might be planning to arrive. I have a life too you know and I know it is part of my job but I do have work hours!!

That feels better, normally I am really flexible and really don't mind but it's Friday evening.

Oh don't get me started! I'm compulsively on time, almost never late and if I am I text/phone to say I'll be late. I arranged to meet a friend for lunch last week. She's always late - last time we met, I was on time, having travelled from home into town while she was half an hour late in spite of having to walk only 7 minutes from her office. So I decided I wasn't going to sit like a tool for half an hour and planned to be 10 mins late to meet her last week. She rang me when I was exactly 2 mins late to see what was keeping me. Oh the rage >:o(

I'm very punctual.... it's almost pathological with me. I just don't understand people who are consistently late and terrible at timekeeping. I especially hate when they don't make contact or acknowledge that they know they are keeping you waiting. It's so rude! It's like they don't value your time or something. Professionally and personally, it's not on and shows a level of disrespect imo.

I am also always punctual and on the rare occasions I know I'm going to be late I always send a text or call to let the person know. We had a few couples over for dinner a while back. One couple texted to say they were running late and would be at our place at 8 instead of 730, fair enough, could happen to anyone. I was so annoyed when at 9 there was no sign of them and they weren't answering a phone call. So I went ahead and served the starter, then the main course and in the middle of this the couple who were late arrived-at 945. I think they were a bit peeved we were all eating but I was damned if I was waiting any longer for them, as this isn't the first time they've done this. I mean, come on, they didn't even have a made up excuse to explain why they were late. I don't know if they thought we should have waited or maybe they might learn a lesson but in future, I'm not going to be hanging around waiting for people. We all have busy lives, we all have the same number of hours in a day and we all have places and plans to organise so this 'I'm always late' excuse is just nonsense.

They were supposed to arrive at 7.30pm and showed up at 9.45pm ACS!?!? WHAT? That's just utterly unacceptable to me, unless they were in a car accident or had a major emergency with their child or something. You're going to someone's house for a sit-down dinner like, a few mins late ok, but they had to know you and the other guests would be sitting waiting for their dinner!

Have to say, if it was me and I was that late I probably would have just not come! Sure the dinner was over at that stage.

And they gave no excuse? Seriously, not even a made-up 'my boss made me answer an email at the last minute and I had to make some calls' or something like that?

Jesus ACS you're a better woman than me, I'd have served the dinner alot earlier than that, especially when they weren't answering the phone, I'd have assumed they weren't coming at that late stage.

Agree with Mari Yay, I would have served earlier too! That would really pi$$ me off. I'm so ridiculously punctual that I'm always early for everything - usually about 20 mins, so it drives me mad when people are late!

Trust me, I was FUMING. But they are friends of DH so I didn't say anything on the night as I didn't want to spoil the nice time the rest of us were having. Suffice to say, we won't be including them in any future nights like this.

Ah yeah a bit of diplomacy was required I guess. We'd friends of my husband staying recently and the girl really annoyed me for the whole time they were here.
First off, we went for dinner and she kept taking phone calls, saying oh I have to it's work (she works in a hotel), it was so rude, everyone was annoyed and there was about 6 or 7 of us.
Then the two mornings she was here she'd get up and lounge around in her pj's after she'd had her breakfast, to the point where my husband had to ASK her if she'd go and have a shower because he wanted to have one and he didn't want to be rude by going before her. And she got all offended, saying oh sorry I didn't realise we were in a hurry! (At this stage she'd been up for over 2 hours, watched something she'd sky plussed on the telly and it was well after 12pm O:| ) By the time we left the house it was almost 3pm waiting for her to shower and get ready. Never again will they be invited to stay here!!
God sorry that turned into a rant, apologies OP :-8

My God thats just shocking, so rude, I would not be asking them in future!! And you waited till 9.00pm, I would have had the dinner on the table at 8.10 if they were still not there.

EB i can totally understand this rant. I say it on a weekly basis with my friend and its a pain in the arse. It like your just supposed to sit about and wait until they make an appearance. It drives me nuts. Even if she is just calling over for tea she will roll up an hour late with no apologies or reason at all. Even if we are meetin to walk with the dogs im standing waiting in the park for a half hour on her like a fool. She is finished work a half hour before me too. I think its so rude. I have said it to her time and time again. I have just got to the stage where i dont bother going walking with her..

ACS that was so rude of you friends to just keep you waiting when they were calling for dinner. SOme people just have no manners >:o(
