We have 175 guests and wedding nearly paid for itself but no way were we expecting it and had budgeted for what we could afford

That wasn't including the honeymoon though

Havent read all the replies but im sure there is an argument in there!
We got married in 2010, had 140 adults for the dinner, no evening invites. Our wedding(honeymoon not incl) cost us €1600 and we received €15400 in gifts. We got about twn cards from people who couldnt make it and most of them had €50-€100 in them, my parents also gave us €2500 as their gift.
I have to say i was overwhelmed but the amound of gifts we got and neve would have anticipated it.

Definitely a no on this one! We spent just over 22k and in cash gifts we received just under 6k and then there was about 15 physical gifts. It's a different time for people and I know this is probably a horrible thing to say but I noticed that 2 couples in particular who are close to us and OH and I would have given 250 for their gift in 2008 and 2010 gave us 100.

Hi I thought it would be helpful to other brides if I gave the finaces of our wedding.
Wedding cost €28,100 had 210 guests. In addition, Honeymoon in total including spending money flights and accommodation was €12,750.
Cash/cheques gifts came to €19,250 from guests. I left out our parents' cash gifts of €20,500 as it wasnt a true reflection for other wollies. So our wedding cost us €1100 after all gifts. Btw 36 guests didn't give anything yet, however we are only married 2 months. Also received loads of lovely presents from guests and some not so thoughful gifts that we will never have any use for.
Hope this helps some readers who are sorting our their budget.
Our €40,820 wedding and honeymoon was paid for by saving hard before the wedding and we only planned what we could afford. We weren't relying on cash gifts but I was expecting them. and I will be shocked if 36 guests out of 210 won't decide to give nothing at all but you never know it's likely btw they weren't invited for their gifts I'm just saying I would be shocked if this was the case. So overall got 50% of cost in cash gifts apart from parents money.

Hey Alex, yeah close friends from both our sides and aunt uncles etc. tbh I presume we will get something from most of these guests as late gifts. I thought I would be more annoyed with not getting gifts or cash gifts (i just dont understand it!) but I couldnt care less now i just think its shocking bad form. I would never in a million years not give a cash gift to a wedding couple. Received presents from loads of people and tbh feel lucky to have gotten so much cash (siblings being extrememely generous). I included that i had the whole wedding paid for by savings just to save people assuming i was being anaytical with gifts as i depended on them to pay for the wedding as some people find this type of conversation rude. I wanted to write on this forum to let others know as I found this type of thing helpful while planning my own wedding.

Thats serious bad manners! You poor thing! I've never heard of late presents before - they knew you were getting married for months so no excuse! You obviously didint invite them for their present so if theyre stuck for money I'm sure you would be happy with whatever they got you ON THE DAY.. Hope they get in touch with you soon and if they dont just pay them back with the same at their wedding or their childrens weddings! :)

no where near it - ours cost about 30k inc honeymoon & we recieved about 6k (not including parents gifts) we has a smallish wedding of about 75 btw. It was no problem at all as times are tough and we had the full cost saved so gifts were a bonus and very appreciated.

Hi,
In our case it didn't, but not far off it! We'd 75 adults, the wedding cost 16k. My dad covered the reception, 5k, and we got 8k from guests. Very, very generous & we didn't expect or rely on any of those gifts, even my Dads!
I'd been warned by others who got married, you'd be surprised how generous some people are, and sometimes who you'd least expect, and how mean others are.
OH's boss gave €500, while our best friends gave nothing, not even a card!! I understand times are hard, but not having the thoughtfulness to get a €2 card, come flipping on, like!
We noted everything as I want to give credit were credit is due for all who gave in our thank you cards.
We definitely got far more than expected, and are very grateful for that!
Cheers,
Kellcarr
