Crying on the Big Day!

Crying on the Big Day!

Postby cabbagehead » Sat Mar 17, 2022 11:33 am

I'm sure this topic must have been done a kajillion times already, but feic it, I'm gonna do it again.

Ladies, did you cry walking up the aisle or during your vows? I'm really worried about collapsing into a gibbering heap (and ruining my make-up :o0 ). I always cry during the vows at weddings, even stupid TV and movie weddings.

I am crying over everything that makes me think of my own upcoming wedding at the moment - even things we're not doing. Like, driving home from work the other day I heard that song "I'm Yours" on the radio. We're not having it as our first dance, yet I cried buckets over how loooovely it is and how much I loooove my OH.

Ditto seeing the "Oh Maria!" song in Sister Act as I channel-hopped the other night. We're not having that song during our Mass, but we are having a gospel choir. I was overwhelmed by thoughts of how feicin AWSOME our marriage ceremony is going to be, and how much I can't wait to be there on that altar with OH, and my body reacted by convulsively emptying all available water out through my eyes.

I must explain, all of this crying is accompanied by feelings of total joy and happiness, which is why I'm so worried about our wedding day - I'm afraid I'll be so delighted I'll just fall to pieces :-8

It's becoming a joke in the Cabbage house at this stage, because my Dad is worse than I am. My sister and mother have pledged not to leave us alone together for a second on the day, lest we disgrace ourselves :o0

So, ehm - help? Any personal experiences of holding back the tide? Or do some of you have big weepy-smiley heads on you in your photos that you'd care to share?

I thought I would cry at some point, but I was more excited than emotional. It is really overwhelming walking up the aisle as well as being surreal. I remember saying to my friends later in the day how strange it is being at your own wedding! We had such a fun time getting ready on the morning, I would highly recommend having hair and makeup in the house if possible as it made things really relaxed and stress free. We all had a ball on the morning, even my brother and dad! Because we weren't stressed we were ready on time and the time line we'd decided on ran like clockwork. I think if I'd been running late I would have been stressed out and maybe more emotional, but DH had made me promise to be right on time and I agreed-and I was! Like I said, I was super excited and happier than I thought I would be!

Hey cabbagehead. Like yourself, in the run up to our wedding I was crying over absolutely everything. The night before the wedding when DH left me at my parents house, I balled my eyes out as he was leaving and after he had left for a good 30 mins :action34 . This, I think, was probably a good thing because I was crying so much in the run up to the big day that I was all cried out by the time I reached the top of the aisle at the church! :o0

I did choke back a few tears as I walked up the aisle but after that it was plain sailing. I was just so incredibly excited and happy to see DH that I actually giggle my way through our ceremony . Honestly, the more you think about it the worse you'll be. Enjoy getting ready that morning. Have a few 'calming' glasses of champagne :hic and just enjoy the day. It'll be over before you know it, so don't waste time worrying about crying. RELAX & ENJOY YOURSELF HUN. It's THE BEST day of your life. Have fun! :lvs

Hi Cabbagehead (love the name btw!)

I got married 2 months ago and like you I was wondering the same thing. (Even opened a post on it in Newlyweds as well!)

Well like I expected I cried buckets all throughout the ceremony! Lol. The moment we left the driveway and were on our way to the church I couldn't hold the tears back! There's a clip in our wedding DVD where my hubby is looking down at my dress and says "are they all your tears DizzyVic"? There were lots of little drops of tears scattered over the skirt of my dress! (It was a bit tulle skirt so all the tears got caught in it.)

Lucky for me my make up stayed put, but I did have a big red nose in all the pictures! Wish someone had told me to go powder my nose! Lol :o0

I kind of calmed down once the church bit was over but started again during the speeches! But they were happy tears and everyone said it was lovely to see me show so much emotion. So didn't feel too silly about it!

Oh wow I'd forgotten all about starting this thread :-8 Sorry ladies.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, glad to know I'm not the only weenie crying over stupid stuff in the run up to my wedding (just cos *sniff* I'm *snort* so-ho-ho-ho *gasp* HAAAPPPPYYYYY :weep :weep :weep ).

I asked the make-up artist about it at my trial, and she said she'd waterproof me good :o0

This was something I was worried about on the day too but tbh when I was standing outside the church and heard the music (we had a gospel choir :lvs :heartbeat: :lvs ) I totally forgot about my nerves/crying and practically danced up the aisle :o0

There was a post going around before I got married that I remember reading....something like digging your nails into the palm of your hand so that you don't get to think about crying just about the feeling of your nails in your hand...totally forgot about it on the day but have tried it at the cinema a few time and it worked :-8 :o0

Just don't think about it too much and go with how you're feeling in the moment. Enjoy every minute cuz the day passes by so quickly.....oh how I'd love to do it all again!
