Suggestions for wedding gift

Suggestions for wedding gift

Postby WackoJacko » Fri Mar 30, 2022 8:37 am

Hi Ladies, hoping someone might be able to help me. A really close friend is getting married in 2 weeks and i have no idea what to get as a wedding gift. I would prefer to get a gift instead of cash but cannot for the life of me think of something that would suitable. She gave me a hotel gift card for my wedding so i dont really want to go down that road.
I was thinking of maybe a Louise Kennedy lamp or something like that but then i think is it a bit blah....
Hoping maybe you might have suggestions or even recommendations of the favourite gifts you received?
Im thinking around the €250-300 mark..
Thanks so much!

If you are going down the road of giving a gift rather than cash I would buy something practical rather than decorative because it might be to your taste but not to hers. I wouldn’t like to get a lamp or anything crystal as I would feel I had to use it even if it was not to my taste.
I would love to get a gift of some Le Cruseut cookware (the frying pan or big casserole dish), good expensive knives, something like a Kenwood chef mixer stuff like that, really expensive bed linen or luxurious towels…I got a really good set of saucepans when we got engaged and love them.
I would actually love to get some practical gifts!

I think it boils down to knowing what they would like and what would go in their home if you buy a gift. From experience two of the best presents we got were believe it or not one of them fancy Steam Irons and a gorgeous set of Sheets/duvet that we would never spend the money on ourselves, probably wouldnt have bought either of them myself for a friend but we love them. How about a really nice picture/painting of somewhere that means something to them or a Blue book voucher, we got one of those for an engagement pressie and got to go to somewhere we usually wouldnt have afforded.

would you consider giving her a voucher for a nice weekend away or even currency for the country of her honeymoon?

We loved the Blue Book vouchers we got. We just used the last one recently. I wouldn't have loved a big crystal item, now that said we got some lovely Waterford crystal glasses and decanters which we love but we never use them and I wouldn't be keen on a crystal lamp.

Some things we got for engagement and wedding gifts which we now really, really love were good bedlinen, Le Crueset casserole (I'd never been able to justify buying this for myself!), a slow cooker (very personal thing though!) and vouchers for places like IKEA, Brown Thomas and evern Dunnes Stores (I got fab Paul Costello bedlinen here, would never think of a Dunnes voucher myself).

My favourite non cash gift was a Newbridge Silverware cutlery canteen we got (full cutlery set that comes in hard wooden box) - similar to the one in the link below:

A good set of luggage is always good and something that people nearly always need.
