what was the biggest waste of money?

what was the biggest waste of money?

Postby donegalbride13 » Fri Apr 27, 2022 7:56 am

Hi guys & girls

So here I am thinking about budgets for certain areas of the wedding and so far have added 3 things to the list that I said I wasn't going to waste money on to the annoyance of H2B :innocent: so here is the question what did you guys spend big money on and found a waste on the day or what did you scrimp on a wish you spent more on?

your advice will be greatly received,

Thanks O-O

This is a really individual thing!

I can't say we had anything that was a massive waste of money. We had a budget and a lot of things came in under it. I was really glad I didn't go overboard on my dress, that would have been a major waste of money for me. We also didn't have a cake or bridal party cars and did a fair bit of haggling, so we felt we got good value for our money. I wasn't sure about having a free bar but DH really wanted it and it was some of the best money we spent and didn't even cost as much as we had planned for. People still thank us and mention this a year on.

In hindsight, I would have spent more on flowers. I actually love flowers but for whatever reason I didn't think about them too much, apart from bouquets (we didn't have buttonholes or corsages). I wish I'd had more flowers in the ceremony room to dress it up a bit more. It didn't bother me on the day but when I first saw the pictures I thought it looked a little bare. So that's what I would have spent more on!

Hi, just a quick question if you didn't mind?! Did you have a free bar for the whole day/night? I know prices vary from venue to venue but ball park what region would that have set you back?
Hope you don't mind me asking but it's a hard one to estimate!

No bother!

We had our ceremony at 3pm in the venue and it was about half an hour long. We had our drinks reception immediately afterwards (supplied our own wine and bubbly) in the bar. We put, from memory, about 1,500 behind the bar and this lasted until the band finished at about 12.30. We had an itemized bill from the bar the next day and it was mainly pints and g&ts, soft drinks and the like. We had some rules, no doubles or bottles of wine (as we were supplying the wine) or cocktails. We married in a private venue where the drinks were probably slightly cheaper than a hotel bar. We had 90 guests. I know 1,500 is a lot of money but it was one of the few things my husband really, really wanted so we went with it. We also went free pour on the wine. We got so many thanks on the day and afterwards about it, people still say how nice the gesture was and that they actually drank less as they didn't get into rounds. The one or two people (relatives!) we knew would take advantage did but everyone else just had their few pints and it worked out really well.

That's great actually! I'd say it was really appreciated too.
We are in a hotel, more guests and our wine etc is inlcuded in the package.
We are just looking at open bar for the drinks reception ceremony and trying to figure out what it would cost!
To do the whle day and night would bankrupt the wedding knowing our families and friends! ;) We figure though with free bar, toast drink and wine with dinner they will be nice a "relaxed" by the time it goesto cash bar!
Thanks again! :wv
