Postby jenhalley » Thu Feb 09, 2022 4:01 pm

Hey
Just looking for some tips on how to get the corkage price down, they are charging €15 for wine and €20 for champagne.
What would be acceptable price I am think half for both but not sure how to go about asking??

That seems like an awful amount of money to pop a cork! Were paying £3 per bottle. Maybe it would be cheaper for you to go with the wine your hotel/caterers supply?

Yikes that is a ridiculous price! Ours is at ten and twelve euro and I'm trying to figure out how to bargain that down... I would argue for at least half off your charge!!

Hi girls,
I am absolutely shocked that hotels still have the audacity to charge corkage. I got married last July and we did not pay corkage at all.We were given the option to purchase the hotel wine which was priced at €12 per bottle. The wine on offer from hotel could have been bought in any supermarket for about €6! So we brought in our own wine!! Tell the hotel straight out that in this day and age corkage is not on. Its amazing what they will do to get the business..remember you are bringing 100+ guests to the hotel already and theu will make enough buy room bookings, breakfasts, and the drink your guests will pay for during the night. My philosophy is if you don't ask you wont recieve!!! So try it and see what happens..Best of luck in the rest of your wedding planning.

If you don’t ask you don’t get… That is what I think. Completely agree with taurus29. Go for bargaining and see the prices coming down. 10 and 12 are fair prices I guess.

this talk about very expensiv to pop a cork really annoys me.
I do this that €15 for wine and € for champers is a bit steep, maybe if you get them down 5 or 6 euros.

now, you dont pay corkage to "pop a cork" as Hellesbells say
Hellesbells have u ever considerd:
you pay for the use of the glas,(unless you are happy with drinking your wine from a straw) ooooh... don't forget that they have to be shined before and after dinner, washed and staff time shining them and setting the tables. Then you pay for storing the wine and the lifting around boxes. You also pay for the recycling of the bottles after use, bare in mind that a bottlebank cost about 6000euros a year, and never mind the loss the hotell makes by you brining in your own wine.....

so i dont think that it is unreasonable for hotels to charge corkage and i do think that abound 8-10 euro per bottle is a fair price to pay, don't forget... you get what you pay for

My original quote was €20 for wine and €25 for champagne, I got them down to €15 wine & €20 champagne. There is no way they will go lower. I guess it depends on how desperate they are for the business!

Our corkage was €5 a head and they said they couldn't go any lower until we said that we weren't paying it and we would only book them if they didn't charge for corkage. They wanted our business so got rid of the corkage!! :o)ll

The corkage in my venue is free and they are even going to advise what wine to buy, how much, and where to buy it from!!
I can see why places have to charge corkage but if some places can offer it included in your package or for free, then surely other places can compromise with lower charges

Thats great Nifththrify! What a good deal you're getting! Our corkage is €5 and I was very happy with that and having read some of the threads I'm SHOCKED at the price some hotels are charging. We're bringing our own wine and so far have only got the red which is screw top. I wonder would the €5 still apply? We're also having prosecco for the drinks reception so I presume corkage would apply here too? I know I could just ring up my venue but a heads up would be appreciated!

I would safely say that if they are charging corkage, then it will apply to screw top also. It isn't so much for the actual corkage as for the use of glasses, pouring of wine etc.
It's good to have it bargained down to €5 but corkage is something which really frustrates me as it can be ridiculous in some venues!

That's crazy money. Our venue doesn't offer corkage at all but their wine is very reasonable. The house wine couldn't be much more expensive than that. It might be cheaper to let them supply it.
