I went with no. What kind of drinks reception is it? I just don't like the idea of having to butter and put jam on them and manage them while managing a glass of bubbly, think canepes are easier....

i said no too. i think scones can be dense and heavy esp before a big meal..
suppose depends on how long til dinner, and if they were small (mini scones) and buttered etc already.

If its a traditional drinks reception, as in bubbly or other alcoholic drinks, I don't think scones go with it. I mean, I'd have scones in a hotel with tea/coffee not a glass of wine or bubbly! I've been at one wedding which had them but it wasn't anything special. I would prefer savory canapés, we had them at our wedding and they went down a treat. I was starving myself so I had a few with my bubbly!

I considered this but didn't go with it in the end. I thought it might be nice for non-drinkers or older people (grannies/aunts etc) to have tea and scones but we were also having hot food and punch so hotel thought it would have been too messy.

We had them with jam and clotted cream. We also had canapes and champagne for the people who didn't want something sweet.

Same - having them with tea/coffee for older people, and champagne for those who are drinking. I told my granny and uncle about it the other day, and they were delighted to hear there would be something for them. The hotel I have booked offered me the scones comp., after some negotation O:o)
