Couch 2 5k

Re: Couch 2 5k

Postby peonybaby » Mon Mar 26, 2022 8:17 pm

started today week 1 day 1! Im using imapmyrun on the iphone so it helps with logging the time and distance. been up and down weightwise since the wedding and want to get back down to 9st 7lbs for the summer hols. Im good at the diet but the exercise I hate, but once I get into to it I love the benefits of it all.

anyone put themselves down for an organised race/run? Im thinking it might help with maintaining my motivation.

Hi Peonybaby! Well done on starting, I found the first few weeks to be the hardest.
Definitely register yourself in a run. And tell everyone you can about it! The fact that I have said I will do the mini marathon (run at least 5k, and walk run the rest) and now everyone knows I am doining it is motivation for me not to miss a run!
Run Ireland is great for finding runs! http://www.runireland.com/events
It is also good motivation to get one of your friends who runs, and promise to do a run with them at a certain date. I am running 5k with a marathon runner in May! And they keep reminding me!

I did week 4 run 1 last night. Thought it was fine! Ran for 5 minutes, twice! Was so proud. Had struggled to run for 60seconds a 5 weeks ago (one week was a wrote off for me!) So delighted. Ran slower than I did last week so that definitely helped! Looking forward to my second run now! Can't believe at the end of next week I have to run for 20 minutes! Scary stuff!

Thanks for the info blue2012! That website is really good for listing all the runs, there is some choice available. I wont be long finding one to do. Good idea to have buddy too, I have a friend in work who is really into running and I said after christmas that I would start training for the marathon this year and I'd say she must think Im a right talker now,I have barely done anything! Anyhow we all have to start somewhere..

Saw this and had to reply - did the Couch 2 5km myself and I have to say, keep it up, it works!! :o)ll

I remember when the 3 minute mark was hard and now I can do the 5km no problem. I would say to anyone doing it (and everyone says it, I know) it's well worth getting a good pair of runners. Even OH said he sees the difference how my feet fall when I run. My C25k buddy was having awful knee problems, and it was the runners that were causing it.

Can't sing enough praises enough for this program - well done everyone and keep it up!! :-8

thanks Mrs2be2012,good going on the 7lbs :o)ll I was so close to not heading out tonight and Im only on week 1 but Im trying to stay motivated. My energy has really picked up even for week 1, if you just keep moving I find I get other little things done around the house, sitting on the couch all night does not help energy levels at all.

signorino matrimonio thanks for encouragement :o)ll there should be a jogging emoticon :)

Welcome peonybaby, stick with it and you'll do great. Well done mrs2b on the weight loss, thats brilliant.
So I'm finished week 8 so now I'm trying to make the switch from the treadmill to the road, have to say its harder than I though but going to keep at it. Can only do about 10 mins before I have to stop and walk, I know I'll get there just have to push myself a bit more. Doing a 10k run on Sunday for autism. The people I'm running with would be a lot better at running than I would so I'm hoping they'll push me along and keep me going. If I run at least 5k I'll be happy.

Just wondering if any of you did more than 3 times a week? I have done three runs already this week and I'm thinking of heading out later but don't want to go nuts at the start and then lose momentum.

Peonybabyi know girls that didn't extra runs for the first couple weeks which seemed to help later on when they were doing the longer runs. It's up to you if you're able for it go for it but don't do to much, you don't want to burn out to quickly

Hello All, stepped out of this thread for a while as I was having injury problems and didn't want to be moaning all the time and also I wasn't training regularly. Anyway, the good news is I've been getting seen to by an osteopath and am up to running 5 miles (from3 minute runs at the start). It's not easy but getting there and some days harder than others.

I just do Three times a week - would love to do more and I wish today wasn't a rest day but really does make a difference to let your muscles recover. Peonybaby - last year when I started C25k I would do more than the three runs and I ended up injured from too much too soon so slow and steady - easier said than done when you are rearing to go - wha about cycling or swimming or something else on the days you aren't running. Cross training is supposed to be brilliant rather than doing all the one sport.

Gingerwhinger - I moved outside about 4 weeks ago from the treadmill. Def hard at first but you'll get there quite fast. The long evenings are great now.

thanks for the responses ladies. I resisted! Although I do really need to be doing something else on the off days from running. I have a great dvd for a bit of resistance training so can start using that again.

Started Week 2 last night, and went well. Its great to just run out the door and be back in 30 minutes, workout done!

I kept to the 3 days, but you should be fine as long as you give yourself a rest day after each run to let your muscles recuperate.

I've actually slowed down to twice a week at the minute - i had a wedding dress fitting, and got given out to for losing too much weight, so I'm trying to stabilise at the minute.

I have only 2 runs left before I finish C25K, wondering what to move onto after that. I don't have enough time in the mornings to start moving to a 10k, but i'm wondering will i start maybe trying to improve my times on 5k...any of you have any ideas ?
