Trying to get in shape for your wedding? You are not alone.

Postby Rachel Fox Photography » Tue Apr 24, 2022 1:33 pm

So this is unusual, but you guys know I love this forum, I used it myself when I was getting married.

I have very recently decided to take some action myself with regards to fitness and health, I share the pain of those who do want to shed a few pounds mind you, in my case a few is being kind :o0

So to let you guys know you are not alone and to give myself the extra pressure of knowing my clients will expect to see only half of me next year (well a bit more than half, don't put too much pressure on me) here you go, no holds barred!

Well done Rachel, the couch to 5k is a brilliant programme. I did it last year and was delighted with myself. Still running fairly regularly now and every so often I dip back into some of the podcasts. Nothing like posting your progress on facebook to keep you on track.

There is a great book out called 'Run fat bunny, run' and I find it really helps me get motivated when I don't feel like going for a run. It has a different training programme to the c25k (I prefer the c25k programme) but her motivation tips are great.

I agree with Pam on the resistance side of things. Even when I run regularly if I add in some weighted exercises in the evenings I notice big changes particularly to the abs. I'm currently talking myself into starting a kettlebell dvd for 20mins a few evenings a week just to help tone up before my wedding this summer.

EXACT same thing happened me. Was flying with the weight loss - almost 3 stone in less than a year - then quit smoking and bang, plateau. Stupidly started smoking again - partly because of the weight, if I'm 100% honest - I'm finding it awful hard to shift it now but I'm trying my damndest! It's not going up or down, it's just the SAME all the time. I think keeping a food diary is very important, I'd be just pretending I didn't eat things otherwise :) It's not even exercise for me, it's 100% food. The dress isn't zipping up so I seriously am not trying to think about it too much and just try and stick to my food plans!! Thanks for sharing Rachel, best of luck and YOU CAN DO IT!

And in the spirit of sharing, I am now a snug (okay.... quite snug) size 16. After getting down to a 14 for the first time in 10 years! BALLS! Still, onwards & downwards, eh? xx

Meggi it's great to hear you used that app and found it great. I am loving it and honestly I don't think I would have pushed myself so hard had I not heard that voice in my ear telling me to start jogging. The fact that you can see your route afterwards and share with friends is very cool too. Pam has some amazing advice throughout the blog and really welcomes input so if you had any questions on anything she has written about I am sure she woud be more than happy to answer them. Her enthusiasim to every post on my personal facebook with regard to excercise has been great and really helps to build the determination.

Emmylou I was sitting in the car earlier with my hubbie when I read your post and I actually lol'd (I know it's not a word but hey, I did it). We can get that get up and go from the smallest of things!

Candlequeen the food side is a huge downside for me, I have a love hate thing with food, I love crap food, I hate cooking which means I often leave it until past 7pm before I eat at all. I love coca cola too much, always have, I have an addictive personality which says a lot as to how I am with weddings, once I like something it is hard to stay away. If I use up 2000kcal a day it would be mainly just from coca cola as I can often go with only eating beans on toast or I will admit some sort of take away twice a week.

I know I posted this as a selfish reason, putting it out there that I am determined, alongside my business name means that people will expect me to keep up with it. I fully intend to but on those days when I just don't feel like it I will remember my clients will be reading this and will be expecting to see a difference.

Also though, really I have realised that support from those around you really does give you the final bit of determination you need and combined with the app (it doesnt have to be the app I used) you may well get that extra push you need. I remember way back when I wanted to fit in that dress I felt like the only person in the world, as silly as it sounds even though I go to weddings to work I still feel that going to a wedding means I should be presenting the best part of me and this is what I am aiming for. I am addicted to anything work related, utterly consumed by weddings to the point that those that know me best just won't ask me about work as they would be bored to death, the good side to that is the fact that presentation is hugely important with weddings and that is driving me also.

Good luck girlies, all the hard work will pay off eventually but remember to let yourself off every once in a while otherwise you will be driven crazy!

There's some good advice on breaking through a plateau on the forums of www.myfitnesspal.com.

I know this sounds odd, but it could actually be that you plateaued because you weren't eating enough. It sounds counter intuitive but it's a regular reason for people stalling. They cut their calories too low to lose weight, their metabolism slows, their BMR drops and the weight stops coming off.

You are so right micls, the right food is so important. I'm thinking for myself, because of the rut I got myself in health wise the last few years anything is going to help at this stage but I do try to eat earlier, it sounds crazy but if I am editing a wedding I want to do nothing else, I get so caught up in it I will not take time out unless it is doing something for my kids which means I often do not eat until their dinner time, sometimes later! I do still use a lot of calories though because of drinking coke.

Today I am feeling quite bad about not going out for a run, the weather is so bad here right now so I have decided to do a stint on the excercise bike and try get some sort of walk later if the weather clears up. I just hope to God weather is better tomorrow and Friday for my weddings.
