hi GW, im on to week 6 now, I did my 20 minute run yesterday in that fierce wind but made sure I was going downhill most of the time :o0

I still haven't booked my self into a race yet, I think the cost of most of them are prohibitive. I liked the look of the docklands run in May, there is a 5k and an 8k but its €40 to do both. Theres also the Duathlons in the phoenix park coming up but I only have a mountain bike and I might be a bit scarlet with all the pro's around me. :-8

I completed the couch to 5k before Christmas last year. I started it twice initially as when I first started it I suffered with shin splints so I took a break and restarted it after a couple of weeks. The key for me was not pushing myself too hard too fast so I resigned from my exercise class and stuck solely with couch25k 3 times per week. I also made sure not to jog two days in a row as this, I think is what brought on my shin splints initially.
I found it immensely rewarding to complete the challenge and was so proud of myself. Since then, I have been working hard trying to keep up a 5k jog three times per week. I kept this up well for the first couple of months and even improved on my pace which I was delighted about. In saying this, I still had some days where I was less motivated and where I would take a short walking break mid way through. The 5k is more of a mental than physical challenge for me. There were days where I knew I was capable of continuing but I still stopped for a walking break.
A few weeks ago I pulled or tore a muscle- right at the top of my leg where my leg meets my backside (think it is called the glute muscle). When this was originally painful, I persevered with the jogging which I now regret as the pain got so bad that I had to take THREE weeks off jogging! I am back on the wagon now although my glute is still a bit niggly. I am doing my 5k non stop again but I am much slower than before- partly because of my glute and partly because I had a 3 week break.
Long story short, I highly recommend the couch to 5k. I found it amazing. But remember that you will have ups and downs once finishing and it is important to work hard to stay on track and keep up the jogging!

I'm on week 6 run 3 tomorrow - not looking forward to running for 25 minutes - going to update my ipod this evening in preparation so I don't get bored! Actually vaguely enjoying the running which I never thought I'd say. It's definitely toning me up which is a big plus!! Doing the 30 day shred on days I'm not running so hopefully I'll be a Greek goddess in no time!! :hyper:

Hi Girls! I have been so bad posting here!
I have more or less finished the program and I love it! Am now just running for around 25 minutes 3 times a week. That's how long it takes me to get around the block so will do.
Have a 10k coming up in a month so I am going to get longer runs in at the weekend.

I downloaded 101 running songs, some good upbeat tunes on it so would recommend that if anyone needs some music to listen to.

Well done to everyone who is coming towards the end. Definitely have a race to look forwards to as otherwise you get very lazy, esp with the rain we have been having! Great achievement to be able to run for over 20 minutes so well done to us all :)

For anyone thinking of doing it - definitely do! I lost inches off my waist and thigh. Wasn't trying to lose weight so have been eating normally. No weight loss from boobs, delighted! I feel a lot healthier and I am well able to go for long walks with OH without getting out of breath which is great!

Just did my first 25 minutes this morning and have to say that it was grand...wasn't out of breath by the end, just tired. So will have to up the speed as I go. I'm doing it in the gym so probably easier on the treadmill than road running but still chuffed with myself!! :o)ll

well done, stupidname2013, finished week 6 and it was tough enough but I did alot of downhill running :-8 Started Week 7 yesterday and I can see now it doesnt get any easier, I was just talking it week by week and now its like, what, no walking intervals?!

Got my new Davina dvd's and when Im finished the jog, I try to do one of the short resistance 15 minute sessions on arms or legs just to top up the workout. Still have to book myself on a run though....

hi all couch 2 5kers!!

I asked a question a few weeks ago would I lose weight doing couch 2 5k and not changing my diet. Everyone was right I lost absolutely nothing!!! I do need to diet. However I am on week 5 and can't beleive how well I have done. I ran for 15 minutes today albeit with a little walking break but WOW, I never done that before and I feel great :eek
