I'm sorry Cakebox that is not an adequate explaination. I think you may have damaged your reputation here

You're being slated because you haven't explained why your price increased by 25%.

This range was released last year and everyone thought this was great €199. In november we had to look at the costings we had to choose to either cancel the whole range or increase the price . We tried to keep this as low as possible. €250.00 is still very good value for money for a 3 tier wedding cake.
Cakebox have always tried to be realistic in pricing our wedding cakes.

Well there you have it girls, Is that the attitude you want to deal with when ordering your cake, and you should be grateful to get it at that price? Are they serious, They should be grateful for the business, its because of us they have stayed in business.Well Im not getting my cake there anymore, 250 euro is alot of money to me

Sorry yvonne9 We at cakebox are not saying be grateful but the price of chocolate and sugar has gone up we tried our best to keep the cost down i know €250.00 is a lot of money i do agree but thats the best we can do . We are a small family business that pays rent and rates and high VAT bills like many suppilers on this site this all has to be taken in when pricing wedding cakes.
But If you had order in july when you enquired we would have honoured the price like the 63 brides that have order this range for 2010 and 2011.
Again i'm sorry this has caused so much upset it was not our intention.
Regards
Jennifer

Well That maybe but I think Im not the only one disgusted about the fact of an increase in this climate is a disgrace. There are plenty of deals out there and goods have come down in price, so girls shop around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have searched everywhere for a plain cake with choc biscuit and have been quoted mad money so i think i may be the only one to think that €250 for a 3 tier choc biscuit cake is very good. I was goin to go up the north for an m&s choc sponge which i wasnt mad about but time+cost+petrol would have cost me nearly €300. I have order 'Mark' cake and am delighted with the price. I know the increase was a bit much but i think it is still great value.

Having visited this shop yesterday, I ordered a cake for our wedding. The samples were frozen, so I had to taste at home, after making the order, and paying €100 deposit. The samples were not to my taste. I contacted the shop first thing this morning to cancel the order and ask for my deposit back. The shop manager called me back after speaking to the owner, to inform me that my deposit was non-refundable. She also informed me that I should have made an appointment to taste the cakes, even though I was not offered this service yesterday when in the shop. I am very disappointed and want to warn anyone out there who might get into this situation.

They owe me money too, I gave up trying to get it back. The shop manager is possibly the rudest person I ever had the misfortune of putting faith in.

Firstly, I am not affiliated with Cake Box, I merely use them now and then to buy supplies I am, however, a cakemaker and I am fascinated by the indignation shown here by everyone over the cost of a wedding cake. I keep reading the expression 'in these recessionary times' . True, we are living in slightly tighter financial times. All of us. Including cake makers. For the record, eggs increased by 33% earlier this year. Due to forest fires in Russia last year there was a flour shortage. The Tax Man has lowered our tax threshold to make back on the fact that there was no vat on eggs or butter.
Insurance has gone up. You are all aware of how expensive petrol and diesel is nowadays and let's not forget how expensive gas and electricity is, aren't you?
My company has had to increase it's prices slightly and we don't have premises, we operate from our HSA approved kitchen, and we don't have to pay Rates.
You baffle me. You want a stunning cake but you want it at bargain prices. Does anyone actually have any idea how long it takes to make a simple wedding cake? Anywhere upwards of 24 hours. At minimum wage that's close to €240 in itself. Add ingredients, equipment, utilities, etc. etc. and you're racking up the cost.
Personally I think €250 is a great price for a cake.

i'm making our own wedding cake with supermarket prices for ingredients and it will cost way less and certainly will not take 24 hours to make!! 24 hours?!!? :yelrotflmaosmilie:
I cant imagine a cake shop being in much business if they are taking 3 working days to make one wedding cake.

anyway, this thread is 2 years old. I dont think there is a wedding cake on cakebox.ie that is less than €350-400 now :eek

Don't forget to post a picture of it.

It would be interesting to track the amount of time it does take you though, from buying ingredients, baking it, cleaning up after that, filling it, sugarpaste it, clean up again and finally decorating it and the time taken to make any extras on it like sugar flowers or models. Also delivering and set up of it as well.

Actually Cakebox still do plain cakes and you could get 3 for around 250, I had a look at their website yesterday as I didn't realise this thread was that old.
