Swab, which is unfortunate considering that I'm a nurse and hear it regularly!

Dont know why but i HATE hearing Irish people saying MOVIE...as in "i saw a really great movie", its FILM people, Irish FILM board, dont know why it just annoys me, also think i might go to the MOVIES tonight, its CINEMA...!!

Most people probably say movie because the other word always comes out sounding like FILIM :-8

I don't hate it but everytime I eat one I wonder where the word yoguht/yoghurt comes from, and the hell do you spell it? :-8

One word I do hate is the C U Next Tuesday one.

Succulent is top of my list, followed by:

Panties
Naughty
Phlegm
Moist
Pastiche
Gangrene

But you know what, some are rather onomatopoeic so you've gotta give 'em kudos for that.

Ointment. Ugh, icky, slimey word.
Societal. What's wrong with "social"? It did us fine for a very long time.
Cupcakes and frosting. Eh, who else grew up with buns and icing?
Cookies. No, we eat biscuits.
Tayto. They are a brand, not an entire section of the potato based product market.
Obligated. Thanks, but I'd rather be obliged.
My gorgeous girl, born June 2010.

+ 100 gazillion! Very irritating. Also, people saying BOOM when they're happy about something... "got tickets to the d-bag concert! BOOM!", oh yeah? Well, I wish you would actually explode.

The amazeballs thing is baaaad....but the BOOM thing is just painful. My cousin uses this constantly, on facebook, text, face-to-face...she's 26... I just want to beat her... >:o(

Mrs Coco wrote:another one, mothers calling their kids number 1, 2, 3...

As in:

Im expecting number 4.
Im going to collect number 2 at the creche.

probably irrational, but I find it very weird to refer to them that way.

It's worse when it's their actual names. Brother and sister 'Third' and 'Fourth' are in my school. Presumably mum and dad are first and second as they're the only kids.

I know it's the norm in loads of parts of Ireland but I always hated the phrase 'curry chip'. I'll have a curry chip. Are you only having one chip? No.

I think t!t / t!ts are horrible, horrible words. Calling something as feminie and beautiful as a breast "t!t" just sounds all wrong. I find it pointy and aggressive and bleurgh.

I hate "ginger" pronounced with a hard G (ging-er), used as an insult. Another horribly aggressive sounding word.

Business-speak makes me grind my teeth. The worst in my opinion is using progress as a verb ("let's progress this development"). It is JUST SINFUL AND WRONG.

I hate the word NEEDLES. It makes me cringe to hear that word. Mind you I do have a serious phobia of needles but the word alone makes me shudder. If someone rings me at work and asks for or enquires about needles ill reply with "yes syringes"..

I cant stand the word period :-8 I shudder anytime my friends drop the word casually into conversation. I always have to say "time of month". When dh uses the word I absolutely crriiiinnnggge and I will always correct him and give him the "proper" way to say it. I have no prob talking about "time of the month" so it's not like Im a prude but I cannot overcome my fear of the other word (cant bring myself to type it again :o0 )
Am I the only one with this irrational word phobia????
