Is it stingy to have no wine with meal?

Is it stingy to have no wine with meal?

Postby niftythrifty » Thu May 03, 2022 7:40 pm

I have just gotten a great price for a wedding package in the one venue (of many seen so far!) which my oh and I both like. After coming home though I have realised that wine isn't included in the package price we were quoted. This got me thinking- is it necessary to have wine with meal? Will people think you are scabby if there isn't wine or is it the kind of thing that people won't appreciate if it's provided?
Decisions, decisions!
All opinions welcomed please!

Yes... People will expect wine with their dinner. It's the done thing. Maybe you could do corkage and save some money that way. Also it's not necessary to do a round for the toast either.

Oh gosh I think you'd definately want wine! Can you bring your own? You can get some great deals out there now. In fact thats what most people seem to be doing, myself included. I was at a wedding a couple of years ago and was dying for a glass when I sat down for my dinner along with a few other ladies and we waited, waited and waited but no-one came around with any! I thought it was terrible to he honest but everyone is entitled to do what they want at the end of the day as it is their wedding but having wine is pretty much a given I think.

Thanks for the replies!
I was thinking along the same lines. I will have a word with the venue manager about wine prices and prices on corkage.
I would be interested to hear does anyone think it is not necessary to have wine with the meal?

I don't drink alcohol, never have, but even I think you need to serve at least 1 glass with the meal.

+1 i would be very surprised as a guest if there was no wine with dinner.

I bought McGuigan's Black Label Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot on sale in Tesco about a month ago. The bottles were reduced from €10 to €7 and then a further 25% off when u buy more than 6 bottles so it was almost half price at €5.25. The value to be got is unreal during the big sale. They do this for loads of wine not just the McGuigan’s. the offer is on again this weekend but am sure it will be a few more times again this year, go into your local tesco and ask.

Sorry to say, but I think wine with the meal is one of those 'must-haves'. :wv

Hurray. We viewed a different venue today which won us over and ticks all boxes. They are letting us bring our wine with FREE corkage and they're even going to recommend what and where to buy!
