Flower colours, BM mint green dresses.

Flower colours, BM mint green dresses.

Postby kellcarr » Sat May 05, 2022 3:33 pm

Hi,
Got to finalise the flowers with the florist soon, when I booked the florist I didn't have my dress or the bridesmaids. My dress is a warm ivory/cream. The bridesmaids are mint green. I think that's quite neutral, so I want to inject a bit of colour - a nice vibrant bouquet. I'm not having lilies or roses (too dear), and I'm pretty sure I don't want yellow. I'm trying to add a bit of warmth.. I thought orange, but H2B pointed out straight away that it'd look like the flag, which I never thought of.
Any suggestions? I'm not a massively assertive person, I don't want to be railroaded into a choice I'm not crazy about with the florist, purely cause I hadn't a clue what I wanted :-8
Cheers!

How about various shades of pink, you could have mostly pale pink with a few brights mixed in and the bm's have the opposite or else vice versa. Gerberas come in lovely shades of pink and I think they are a cheaper flower. Maybe like this

Are those dresses similar to yours?

i think raspberry pink goes lovely with mint green.

gerbera are gorgeous. you could also go with carnations (they're not as uncool any more ;-) ) Here are a few ideas:

i love this idea (you could swap the orange for pink):

to make your own bouquet a bit extra special, you would wrap beaded grass around it, like this;

or this looks lovely with the dainty crystals through it:

Hi Chattahoochee,
Yep, those dresses are very similar to the bridemaids dresses - this is theirs -
http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Anoushka+G+Florie+dress/D277295,default,pd.html
The colour is deeper, but still light green - you know how photos from websites can be different than reality.
My dress is -
http://www.bayareabridal.net/galleries/bridal/Special_order/augustajones/index6.html#img/Wedding%20Gowns%20-%20Augusta%20Jones%20-%20Sukie.jpg
I do really think bright pink, light pink & greenery like the bouquets in the photo look great..
On a quick google of mint green bridesmaids dresses, pink gerberas came up again & again.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Morningsun,
Yep, I really like that look too, but H2B is still adamant that he's against orange.. it annoys me no end, but it's his wedding too, so I suppose I've got to pick my battles ;) It's such a pretty combination, though..
Thanks!

Hey Flor,
Yep, I think gerbera's are lovely, but carnation has always been one of my favourites, from when I was young, until I saw an episode of SATC where they called them funeral or filler flowers - that really knocked my opinion of them (in fairness, I have every episode & the movies of SATC ;) I do love the shades of pink in the photos of the carnations - their absolutely gorgeous!!

Thanks a mill girls, loads of food for thought now, and I have great ideas to give to the florist! :o)ll

You could always go for an English country wedding type bouquet like this one

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UnHZfyOYACc/S ... ouquet.JPG

Or a simple pink hydrangia bouquet like this

I think neutral colours look lovely in pics,
I love the first bouquet nelle as posted there, I think I'd go for something like this myself but if you want to inject a bit of colour an unusual choice might be purple and green, its a bit different, and I know that you can get hydrangeas in that colour all year round they bulk up bouquets so you end up not having to pay hugely for flowers, personally I would add a bit of foliage and roses just to give them a bit more impact but simple hydrangea bouquets are easy to assemble, you can buy them in pots and cut directly from the stem, no fuss.

there are also gorgeous rose that are both green and purple in pigmentation these are expensive enough old dutch something, I cant remember their exact name , or indeed you could use some brassica mini cabbages I know it sounds mad but I think they can be quite cute in bouquets and they dont cost too much, I know I have said this to many florists and they hated the idea of them, but often thats because they like working with certain flowers and have a formula for making them up and have their prices based on this any deviation throws them off a bit and you'll find they'll try and convince you to go with what they want not what you want.

Heres a few pics for ya!!!!

Hi Kellcarr,
I have an extremly similar colour to you.Im having cream roses for the bridesmaids and peony roses for myself in cream.I did want a bit of colour in the bridesmaids but they want the cream. That might change!!I was wondering where you got matching ties for the boys as it was a nightmare for me.I ended up buying the silk and am getting them made.I only saw a small swatch of material so Im hoping the bigger ammount of material looks more mint green than blue!

Hi,

I had green BM dresses too.
I had wildflower style bouquets so they had numerous colours in them in order to warm things up like you were saying.
Here's a few pics and you can see they had some yellows, pinks, purples and greens in them. The flowergirl had a few simple sprigs of camomile and they were cute.
(Sorry the second pic is so tiny but just wanted you to see the colour of the dresses)

Hi Kellcar,

Some of the suggestions so far have been really good but if you haven't made you mind up yet here are a few more!!! Mint Green is a fab choice for dresses as really anything can go with it (well except blue perhaps).... you can go for Neutrals or block colours such as red or pink or a colour mix, currently lots of people are mixing lots of vibrant colours because these stand out in pictures but also you could mix soft pastel. Here is a sample of some of my work that I think will look amazing!!! They are all very different looks but it is your day and your taste so don't let your Florist talk you into anything that you don't like!!!! Good luck O-O

Or you can view more of my work on http://www.facebook.com/flowerflair

Another Vibrant bouquet..... would look amazing in pictures against mint green

Or here is a Flower Box that I created last week using vibrant flowers with a natural string finish....

Mix of soft pastles would look lovely with Mint Green

Soft Ivory is always very popular and ageless
susan bouquet.jpg (74.3 KiB) Viewed 780 times
As is the red rose, always looks amazing in pics against white
Grand Prix Rose Bouquet with Diamantes.JPG (66.92 KiB) Viewed 780 times
Another mix of colours, this time more pinks and purples but would also look well with mint green - this bouquet is currently featured in Irish Bride Magazine :)

As would this....

I would recommend peach, too, green is neutral as far as flowers go, so match the tone instead of the colour, don't go too vibrant or the dress colour could look washed out. Lilac or lemon would look lovely, too.

The yellow you were thinking of too would be super cute. I can't find a good image to link to from my phone but check out this....

Wow, I was all for the purple & pink until I saw this colour combination. It's gorgeous. The peach really complements the mint, but brings warmth? I love purple, and I could be wrong (I don't know my colour wheel or what have you), but purple is cool too, is it? I suppose it depends on the shade.. but anyway, I was struck by how well it looked, peach and mint.

Those wild flower style bouquets are gorgeous too. Thanks for posting!

Mmm - nearly too many great answers there.
Thanks a mill girls. I'll print off my favourites & bring them to the florist & see what she can/will do, my budget is tiny ;o)
Thanks! :thnk
