dinner entertainment?

Postby princessB2B » Wed May 09, 2022 11:17 am

been to few wedding this year and see the singing chef has really taken off. just wondering is there anymore options out there to do something a little bit different and to entertain the guests during dinner?

I've also seen violinist playing during dinner - going around to the various tables etc. Apparently there is a group called tropical storm (hope i've got that name right!) who do alternative dinner entertainment too but i've not really looked into it yet. The singing chef/waiter can be an expensive option and it is becoming quite common. Some people also do a photo-booth during dinner or have someone sketching cartoon drawings of the guests. Hope that helps for some ideas!

I don't think this is necessary TBH. I find the singing waiter things a bit cringe. I don't think people need to be entertained for every moment of a wedding, especially not during a meal when I know I like to catch up with people and have a good natter. I'd spend your money elsewhere, like on a round of drinks or choice of food.

+ 1

I would hate this if I was at a wedding. At the meal I want to enjoy the food and enjoy chatting to the people on my table.

I think people worry too much about entertaining guests at weddings when really most people are fine you know? They can entertain themselves.

on a side note my mum was going on and on about having a comedian to come in and her fav comedian is Brendan grace so I checked him out and she nearly fell off her seat when i told her how much he cost!! she hasn't mentioned it since!

plus one on the tropical storm band. my friend had them at her wedding last year and it was brillant fun. really entertaining. didnt bother me at the time that we were having dinner. at the mo the plan is not to have any band during dinner . but to have someone sing or play music at the drinks reception before hand. and then the band after dinner.

I think most people find it really annoying. Id say its a minority who actually enjoy that kind of thing.

We had Manila Strings, a Filipino trio who went around the drinks reception and tables before dinner was served. They were AMAZING, everyone commented on what good fun they were because they took requests and played everything from Lady Gaga to Willie Nelson!
Def worth looking into, my DH said they were the best money we spent on the day.

our hotel just played background music for us during the meal as said above if you have extra cash then maybe try to sort something but otherwise it really isn't required.

A friend went to a wedding with the singing waiters she said it was good but I personally think that all those things have been done loads so not very surprising anymore.

..don't think that's true. I have been at a wedding where Manila strings played and they were AMAZING. Everyone at the wedding was raving about them and older family relations heard them at a wedding since and also raved about them. I think that actually if this is done right, the majority of people will enjoy.

Ive never seen that a wedding but just from my own experience I found that most people find dinner entertainment annoying. I'm sure there is plenty of people who enjoy it though.
