I sent it on to you a few mins ago.

Just about finished packing my bags and was cross checking with another site. Someone suggested packing a few plastic bags in your bag so you can send home washing with your other half. Great idea or he might have to stuff poo-ey pukey baby clothes in his coat pocket :yelrotflmaosmilie:

Just wanted to add my 2 cents

When I went into Labour (during the night) DH dropped me at the door of HS and came back after he movedthe car with my big bag not the labour bag O:| anyway it realy didnt matter, I had my handbag with me (camera, make-up, phone, caramex) etc. in it. I was totally fine without it, and he went out and got it a few hours later while feeding the meter.

As I went during the night, I threw any aul thing on me as I really didnt care, so the nght dresses I had bought stayed inthe bag, I also forgot my brand new towels but DH brought some in the next day

So try not to get too caught up in what you need as you can always get someone to bring it in

Best of luck ladies :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll

I have a bottle of "contraband" Gripe Water here and it's great!
HTH!

I bought 2 bottles of gripe water recently in the Supersavers in Athlone. Not sure if other Supersavers do it too. Thank god my mum was with me and made me buy it as I had never heard of it before and she told me how hard it is to get.

4. Nappies
5. Nappy changing cream – they all recommend Vaseline and that you shouldn’t use it much - only about once per day
6. Cotton Wool – best way to keep from getting nappy rash is simply use cotton wool and water for changing – wipes are drying, but handy if you are out and about
7. Bowl for water
8. Changing Bag with changing mat inside – most of them have this
9. Talcum Powder alternative – I use a cornflower based one which has no talc as talc is not recommended for babies

Baby Kit:

5. Dummy
6. Calpol – from 2 months
7. Bonjella
8. Saline Nose Drops
9. Baby Vaporub / Karvol (both only suitable after 3 months)
10. Nail Scissors

Clothes:
1. Baby Gros/Sleepsuits, 0-3 months and newbirn. 8-10 of these. Newborn ones are best in the early days unless baby is big. The sizes of them vary hugely from shop to shop. During the day my boy wears a short sleeve vest with babygro and also at night in the early days. Now he wears just a long sleeve vest under his grobag at night.
2. Scratch mittens – 1/2. If baby will tolerate them.
3. Vests – 6/8. H&M do wraparound vests which are much handier than the ones that go on over the head
4. Bibs – Cotton backed ones for small babies – M&S ones are nice, Dunnes ones go baubled after one wash. You won’t need these for maybe 2/3 months if you use muslins for feeding. Plastic-backed ones are better when weaning.
5. Snow Suit – 1
6. Cardigans/Jackets – 1/2. I hardly ever used these and never used a cardi as house is warm. Mainly used snowsuit for outdoors, though jacket is handier if weather is not too cold.
7. Socks – you won’t need socks if baby is wearing babygro. Only needed for when baby wears outfits
8. Hat –1/2 - most jackets/snowsuits have hoods anyway.
9. Blankets – cellular. It is nice to swaddle baby in the first few weeks as they can get frightened by their arms flailing around - they don’t recognize them as their own arms! After that we used the Grobags (baby sleeping bags) cos they are so safe – no danger of wriggling under blankets.
10. Don’t bother buying (m)any outfits as you will get loads – dungarees are way better than trousers/jeans for babies as they have no waistband to dig in to their tummies

Things you will need for yourself:
1. Arnica tablets - start taking during labour or after birth depending on your midwife – helps with the internal healing
2. Tea tree oil. If you have stitches &/piles after labour, the best thing you can do for yourself is have a bath with tea tree oil twice a day. It is so cleansing and soothing even if you have no stitches/piles.
3. Lavender oil for bath. Nice combined with tea tree.
4. Special cushion to sit on if you have stitches, like a rubber inflatable ring or your feeding cushion.
5. Heavy duty sanitary pads – you will need lots of these but don’t stock up in advance until you see if you have stitches because if you do, please get the cotton Dr. Whites, as the plastic ones like Always irritate them.
6. Breast pads – whether or not you BF you will need these
7. Lansinoh cream – for cracked nipples if you BF
8. You will sweat buckets after giving birth so bring a good deodorant!
9. Big bottle of witch hazel. Lash it on the pads every time you change one.

Before you go into hospital:
1. Know how to use your car seat & pram/buggy properly.
2. Have some non-maternity loose/comfy clothes ready for when you get home.
3. Cot/crib made up.
4. Make a few curries, lasagnas, and freeze. You would want to be ultra-organised to have this done in advance…
5. Have a coming home bag packed for partner to bring in with an outfit for you and baby.
6. You might find your feet swell up after you give birth even if you had no swelling in pregnancy, so bring loose fitting slippers and shoes for going home.

Just a couple of things I've spotted here.....
If you are having trouble keeping scratch mitts on Baby, all Mothercare babygros come with integral cuffs up to 6 months I think. The cuff of the sleeve just rolls over Baby's hands. Dunnes also have this feature I discovered. Very handy.

I have seen elsewhere that the Arnica have to be the 200c strength to be of any use and can only be bought from Nelsons own shop on Duke St. in Dublin.

I would put Epsom Salts on that list for your bath over the essential oils. They are marvellous to help healing and do wonders for relieving muscular aches and pains. They're cheap as chips and a tablespoon or two in the bath is all you need. I used them after a car accident last year and they were magic. I gave the tub I had left to my SIL after she had her baby and she bathed in them every day, found them wonderful.

On the going home clothes for yourself, from talking to friends it is likely you will still be in your maternity clothes for a little while so don't bank on bringing just loose fitting normal clothes.

Hi all.

Ye the epson salts are brill Delphinium. I did a massage course and they highly reccommended them for loosening out your muscles and toxins in muscles etc! GREAT!! I think you mentioned a very important thing there also about the scratch mittens. sure you wouldnt need them at all if you have them baby grows.

As for clothes to go home in the coombe website says to bring stuff you will fit into at 26 weeks pregnant. Thats big enough going on me now at 27 weeks nearly

I'm probably going to get a couple of pairs of mitts anyway just to have them because I do have a few babygros without the rollover sleeve. And I'll likely get outfits and the likes from family. I know others manage by just keeping baby's nails short but that's difficult enough in itself when you are not used to trimming little nails. If I get my way though the child will be in nothing but babygros for the first couple of months at least!

Good advice on the clothes Jennos. I haven't got a list from the Rotunda yet. I'm at 26 weeks myself now and I will definitely need my maternity clothes!

God its been a while since I looked this but was only saying to a friend the other day to make sure she has thrush cream and haemoroid (sp) cream for when you get home!!

I was on so many antibiotics after i got thrush and the roids came coz of the pressure while in labour, didnt think this was possible coz I had a section so no pushing required but the force of the baby on that faithful day was enough to leave me with bum grapes :weep :weep
