If I had pre-school children, and could afford it, I'd like to spend the first couple of years looking after my children myself.
Otherwise - no, I'd be bored silly at home. I love the interaction with other people at work. And if I was home, I'd feel obliged to do most of the cleaning - which I'm not particularly fond of doing!
God no. I'd be bored out of my tree!
I would like to go part time but at the moment financially would not be a good time. Also the company i work for does not allow part time employees so if ever i decide to go part time i would have to look for another job.
When I have kids would love to be, but financially and all that probably won't happen. Would def consider part-time or job share.
Would love to work from home too, maybe have my own little business or that but with the freedom to live a lovely home life! Thought there was something in all that part-time/jobshare had to be an option in workplaces?? ie family friendly policies etc?
What a great topic....i can forsee being so bored at home.I dont have children at the moment so i cant really comment.I would of course take some time off but hopefully return part-time and hopefully my mam would mind the child. Not even being a money situation its to be out there and having a life outside the home.I see from my mam that she is home bound now after giving up work to have my sister. She doesnt drive so she depends on my dad for going shopping etc.
She has advised us always to work and have our own independence as once you give up work its very hard to go back to it especially after say 20yrs.Her confidence and self esteem has been affected and looking at her i feel id probably/hopefully staying working
i will be!! hopefully we will have children and when we do i won't be working until they are at least in play school. okay maybe if they come sooner than planned or whatever we will have to manage with the drop in income. i'd rather manage on less money than hand over half my wages every month to a creche or child minder. mum was there for us when we were kids and i want to be there for my future children...
as regards housework, god i wish i had more hours in the day as it is..i can't keep up with it and work full time! i would take pride in keeping the house if he is going out working and keeping me and the children...i know that probably sounds terribly old fashioned and i'm sure plenty on here will disagree, but it's what i've always wanted..my mother will tell you when i was a kid i used to say it all the time - i want to be a mammy when i grow up  if i was the one working and he was at home with the children, i'd expect the housework to be done
Jellybaby I'm with you!! I am slowly coming to the realisation that I'm just lazy and don't want to work  no matter what it is. I don't want children but I would love to be a kept woman and shop for a living! I know how shallow that sounds and I'm sure I'd get bored after a while of it but I'd love to get the chance to try it for a while anyway.
The funny thing is that I'll probably earn more than my husband for most of our careers so it's never going to happen. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.
I would love the option, but it will never be feasible - I'm the higher earner. Typical - I bust my gut doing long hours and studying for accountancy exams, reward being I can now never give up work.
I think I would always work part time for independence and money, but it would be so nice to know financially you didn't have to.
Miss X, my plans exactly! I hope to start my own business early next year (after the wedding) and if all goes to plan, start a family in eighteen months/two years time. Ideally I want something that is my own, that will give me some independence but will also be somewhat flexible with regards to working part time/taking time off when children come along.
