You're not alone - the best EVER was 2kg potatoes in Aldi for 18c - that's EIGHTEEN CENTS!!! That was only a month or so ago, I got them this week for 29c and I was a bit miffed!!

We do our weekly shop in Aldi and I have no problem being able to do a full shop there. The only thing we can't get there that we use are Heinz Beans and Heinz ketchup but we tend to stock up on them when on offer somewhere else. We occasionally go to Lidl as they do a lovely pasta sauce and the most delicious white chocolate.

The last few weeks neither DH or I have been well so we did some Tesco online shopping and good god I found such a difference in prices. Our weekly shop in aldi would normally be about €50 and the same shop in Tesco with some bits missing was €70-€80.Back to Aldi pronto for us, sick or not!!

I am a big ALDI fan too. I am happy to buy most tings there except nappies, wipes, tea, shampoo, conditioner, razors. I spend way less there than Tesco or Supervalu but tbh i tend to buy brands in those places and to be fair baby formula, nappies and baby ANYTHING is more expensive and also I buy alcohol in Tesco.

Basically i do alternate wks in both places.

Can anyone rec wine from Aldi?

Used to shop in Aldi but have recently switched to LIDL. I prefer LIDL now but there are still a few things in Aldi that I would get, the pancakes that you put in the microwave you get 8 in a pack for 1.24 they are gorgeous! I can also get Lyons tea in Lidl so its great and I find their fruit and vegetables excellent. Hams and cheese, yoghurts and salad all great quality.

I use Tesco for nappies, baby stuff & dog food.

Aldi for me. I am another Shopper that loves to shop.

I usually go to Aldi and do my main Shop and then cross the road and go to Lidl to pick up other things and then finally to Supervalu to get the razors and other things that I can't get in Aldi/Lidl.

I do notice when I go to Dunnes or Tescos I get one bag of shopping for €25 but in Aldi that will equate to at least two bags!

I don't like Tesco's and find their Fruit and Veg are gone off within 3 days and my Shop is always, always much more expensive.

I'm a huge fan of Aldi. We originally started shopping there to also reduce our food shopping bill. We didn't have a Lidl in our town then so that's why we picked Aldi.

We go there every week and do the majority of our shopping there. I would buy herbal tea, cereal, honey, milk, eggs, juice, vitamins, icecream, yoghurts, chocolate, bread, fruit and veg (which I find is better quality than Tescos), cleaning stuff, beer... that kind of thing. I used to have a thing about only buying brand washing powder but I recently tried it and it was grand and didn't notice a difference myself. The only things I would definitely not get in Aldi are the meat (I've tried it - I just don't like it and prefer going to Superquinn for that - I know others think it's fine though) and cat food (although I wouldn't feed my cats the muck you find in ANY supermarket! So, to sum up I would try anything in Aldi and find most of it to be excellent quality.

I do find that you can't get absolutely EVERYTHING in Aldi so you do need to go to somewhere else to get these things. Most of the time that is Superquinn for me. They are so expensive though so I try to only get what I have to in there. Love their meat and fish.

I go to Lidl the odd time now too now that there is one near us. They seem to be open later than Aldi so have ended up doing the shopping there a few times when I was home late from work and Aldi was closed. I love their pastries, cereal bars and actimel type drinks.... absolutely delicious!

Well ladies I took your advice and went to Aldi for this weeks grocery shop, we saved over 100 euro, I was gobsmacked! I shall never darken the door of Tesco again........... wel thats not true, but I will definatley get as much of our shopping as I can in Aldi from now on!
