Good stuff ellefun. I went to the doc a few years ago for stress and it was the best thing I ever did. I only ended up taking a few days off work but it was just great to have spoken to someone. Good luck :)

I told DH yesterday evening that I had made the appointment. He was great. He said he'd come in with me or wait.. whatever I wanted. I'm so relieved... Was dreading people trying to convince me I was grand and to just get on with it. I have been getting on with it and it isn't working anymore. It will be a longish wait til Wednesday but at least I have a long weekend in between.

Thanks so much for the words of support and people sharing their experiences. It's (anxiety and stress) not as uncommon as I thought.

Fair play ellefun for tackling this. You're already on the road to getting back to your old self. I recently saw a close friend go through this and it was so hard to even watch her let alone be her. Anxiety is a crippling thing but can be overcome and handled for the rest of your life. I saw my friend take charge of it and everyday since she has been better. First step was her GP who prescribed some meds to help her get back on track. Single best thing she has ever done. Its so great to see her taking this on and returning to her old self. Delighted for you O-O . I went for counselling for my anxiety years ago. It was a lot of hard work but so worth it as I got my life back :o)ll
Your OH sounds like a keeper too.

So I went to me GP. She was really understanding and I got to talk it out for what felt like an age. It was great for someone to acknowledge that yes I am anxious/stressed and not try to convince me otherwise.

She recommended Cognitive Behavourial Therapy and gave me a prescription for Xanax. She told me if I don't feel they are helping and that I need something stronger to come back to her. I'm happy to try these if I feel anxious though. I don't think I've gotten to a stage where I need tablets daily, thankfully. I'm hoping I got to her in time and that it hasn't taken hold. These are just to take the edge of any occassion I can feel the stress/anxiety getting the better of me.

Now I'm on the hunt for a psychologist for the CBT. I'm feeling positive... I think....
