Has Anyone Tried Microdermabrasion? Your Thoughts?

Has Anyone Tried Microdermabrasion? Your Thoughts?

Postby hairdye » Sat May 05, 2022 8:14 am

Thinking of trying microdermabrasion. My skin has broken out for a while and Im super self conscious over it :-8
Not many spots, but deep sore ones.

Do you think microdermabrasion will help?

Did it leave your face very raw and sore after? Did you have to go into hiding? :o0

Was it worth it?

Thanks for your help :thnk

Hi yes I have bad skin too and unfortunately picked at them and now I have horrible scars! I had 5 sessions of microdermabrasion about 5 years ago and it did improve the look of my skin alot then. Its like a deep deep cleanse and takes off the top layers of skin and leaves your skin glowing. I must stress though that it didn't do anything to the spots I had at the time, it only improved the texture and look of my skin. I am thinking about having a glycolic peel after I have my baby (3 months) to try get rid of red marks I have from old spots and also I have a few deep sore ones.

And no my face wasn't red or sore after, if felt really fresh and clean and people commented on the look of it after. You should go on some of those deal sites they usually have offers of packages for microdermabrasion sessions. I paid for them when they were quite expensive at the time.

I had it done and didn't really find it great as I would have needed a lot of sessions to clear up scars.

No7 do a microdermabrasion cream and it great, I do it at home twice weekly and notice the difference now

Hi hairdye

I've had two sessions recently one with the machine and one done by hand both were great I can definitely see the difference and haven't had a break out yet. I got some dry skin after the hand one but it only lasted 2 days. I have large pores on my nose I was told 6 sessions would sort. I bought deals for both definitely worth it and I didn't have to go into hiding at all :)

I did some microdermabrasion and it did not work at all. Three sessions, didn't see any difference so I stopped going, its very expensive. If i were you I'd save the cash and go see a dermatologist. Especially if you have deep and sore spots, it sounds like cystic acne, something I suffered with for years. The only thing that worked for em was Roaccutane, its expensive but it works so well. Look it up www.acne.org this website is also amazing and while the roaccutane got rid of my cystic acne the acne.org regimen kept away the yellow head spots.

As nostress mentioned no7 do a microdermabrasion cream but they also have a mask which I have tried. It absolutely stung the face off me and I was so red afterwards. Haven't tried it since but will try it again. Can't say that I saw much difference with it

Didn't work for me. The only thing that cleared my adult acne, after years of trying literally every possible cure, was having a baby.... but that's probably a bit drastic as a treatment! :o0

Found Microdermabrasion no better than a facial, at twice the price. Plus my ears were full of sand afterwards >:o( .

Did nothing for me either. I don't suffer from bad skin but did it thinking it would be good to get rid of dead skin etc. For me it was a waste of €85.00 and my skin /face was red and sore for days afterwards. I found it sore when I was getting it done.

Hmmmmm, kind of going off the idea a bit after seeing some more replies.
Thanks for the replies and your honesty, I appreciate it.

I think what I will do is see how I get on with the antibiotics, hopefully I will see an improvement after a few weeks.
My Mum keeps tellling me to drink more water which is driving me slightly insane, because my spots are NOT from lack of water. I drink loads of water and have a healthy diet most of the time. To be honest I think stress definitely makes my skin flare up more. My job can stress me out at times.

Thanks for the link BOR, I actually found that website useful. Roaccutane is not for me at the moment as Im TTC. Anyway fingers crossed it will all come together soon for me.

Thanks to you too Emme for your honey tip, you gave that tip to me before but unfortunately despite trying it once a week for a few weeks, it didn't improve things for me!

Thanks again for the replies :thnk

Hairdye if you're TTC hold fire on doing too much...As you know I struggled with spots for years and years and finally relented and went on the pill and it did improve them hugely but nothing sorted out my skin like pregnancy...like overnight I just stopped getting spots. If you have hormonal spots (chin, jawline) then pregnancy will probably solve it. Another reason to send you :babydust:

And your Mammy is right, water won't solve the spots but it will help you heal a little faster, thing is when you start drinking lots of it your skin will breakout for a while. It's never ending the problems with spots!

I had a session there this week. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I have good enough skin overall anyways and I just wanted something to even out the skin tone so it wasn't a severe one iykwim. I was a bit blotchy the next day and was advised not to wear makeup for a few days. I might give it another few goes but not sure yet.

Elizabeth Arden skin protectant is very good for doing this...you should be able to get a sample at a counter.
