Franc's DIY Brides

Re: Franc's DIY Brides

I thought it was very good - It gave me 1 or 2 ideas!!

I do agree that it still cost a lot to do everything they done! Those jars and teacups and birdcages and flowers add up!!

Definitely can't imagine they stuck to budget. As someone with a new-found lantern fetish I would estimate that the amount of accessories alone that she had bought must have cost a couple of grand. I thought the whole look of it came together very well but they looked so stressed out and shattered, I was kind of thinking was it worth it? I cant imagine myself hanging out in my hotel until after midnight for the few nights running up to the wedding.

Looked v stressful and panicked on lead up, would hate that anxiety! Wouldn't be too keen on roping in all the family members help, and ESP the school kids?!? Nor would I enjoy being in hotel all the final week, ESP after midnight the night before!

But it all looked great at the end and they do look like such a lovely couple!

It'd be great to be able to set up in the hotel in the few days before but for anyone like me getting married on a Saturday there will most likely be a wedding on the Friday and possibly the Thursday before us so we will have no choice but to decorate on the morning, my mum, friends and h2b will be like headless chickens that morning :eek

My thoughts exactly.
I'm the type of guest who appreciates effort and detail but whatever amount of time they put into it, totally negated the cost savings.

Tables are cleared after the meal, for the sake of a couple of hours when people should be enjoying their food rather than the table decor, is the fuss worth it?

+1 it all looked fantastic, but I wouldn't like to be stressed out in the hotel until midnight in the nights coming up to the wedding. But as Daffydil has said if your getting married at the weekend your hotel will more likely have weddings on the day before yours so you won't be able to do that much IYKWIM.
Our wedding is on a Saturday and I know there is a wedding on the day before...

Thats a good point Finicky Fi
I've spend all day looking for ideas for table decor and centrepieces. Was thinking of Franc's idea of the hurricane vase with the coloured beads, water and candles.... For 15 - 20 tables this could cost a right bit.... is it worth it when the tables will be cleared??
Does every hotel clear the tables after the meal for the dancing??

It'd depend on the size of your dancefloor as to how many tables will be removed, but once the dancing starts and the rounds of drink bought - the tables just accumulate bottles and glasses, then the afters food, so will look a mess no matter what decor you have on them.
I think it's a waste anyways.

Never thought of it like that!!

Might just buy beads to put in to the hotels own vases because I've been to weddings in our venue before and sure enough the tables are cleared!! Be a waste of €150-200 for an hour or two

Our hotel supplies Ivory sashes for the chair covers and even these are taken off before the band starts! I'm buying my own sashes and table runners off eBay to match the bridesmaids so I think these will be enough...

Yeah tables on the dancefloor are cleared off, and then glasses just accumulate, I'm just going with the hotel's candleabras because they're free and pretty and will do the job! :) I'll have some tealights but I love candles so they'll be moved to tables in the "bar" area of our reception room after dinner so will get used for the whole night.

I might just get the beads then and use the hotels tall vases - should be enough to inject a little colour as I'm supplying the hotel with chair sashes and table runners that match my bridesmaids...

Was it only me, or was there not really alot of DIY in this... I know there was the centrepieces and buntings but Franc even said they could buy them. I felt whilst this worked great for them, I thought it was an excellent example of Budget planning for a wedding rather than DIY?

his week - what do people think?

I'm loving the idea of the first dance in the bandstand - dying to see how it comes off....

Not mad about the bm's dresses but the details in terms of decor look good.

I really loved tonights theme, they worked so hard, loved her flower arrangements, and the first dance on the bandstand, and I really liked her dress. they did loads of work 200 of anything takes a long time to do. I can fully appreciate the effort that went in to that day. lovely to see everyone rally round them to help pull it all together.

Really cute idea with the polo mints!!!

I don't usually think that sort of effort is worth it for the sake of 1 evening but they pulled it off well.
The first dance was mega.
And I loved the cake!
