morningsun, I read that post too on boards, very sad, hippychic totally agree with your post, one of my dogs has had some bad experiences with dogs in the past (since we got her and possibly before we got her too) so I can be slightly anxious when other dogs are coming, exactly like you say, I know she senses my anxiety when I'm 'reeling her in' on the lead and reacts accordingly, it's like the vicious circle. However in my case, if a dog is friendly I'm actually happy for the them to approach because she will react well to a dog with good energy and I like her to have positive experiences with other dogs.

babyhopesanddreams - we have a German Shepherd, he's 8 now and we were told with all of his health issues (besides the blood thing) we'd be lucky if he got to 7 so we're doing well!

morningson - that is so sad. That's exactly how we found out too and we came so close to losing him. That poor guy, he was trying to do right by his dog and be a responsible owner and neuter it. That's awful :o(

trance - it is a vicious circle isn't it? We're at the stage now where any dog bigger than him, no matter how friendly, is a no-no as he'll react aggressively anyway. Smaller dogs are okay-ish (I think he thinks they're cats and he LOVES cats!). That said he surprises me sometimes and takes to a big dog out of the blue (we did a collection for Cork DAWG and he fell in "love" with a husky and a wolfhound but hated a Pom that was there on sight).
