Croatia brides thread

Croatia brides thread

Postby BallerinaBride09 » Thu Oct 30, 2021 10:52 am

Thought I'd start a thread for all 2009 Croatian brides, hopefully there's a few of you out there!!

Planning is starting in earnest for me, we are working with Nina Bos and the info has started to flow in from her.

Hope to get invites out in the next month or so, also hope to launch our wedding website with info on flights and accommodation.

Our wedding is in June.

How are the rest of you getting on?

Great idea for a thread!!

I'm planning my wedding for August '09 in Dubrovnik. I'm also using Nina Bos.
I have sent over my form to the parish, via Nina, to book the date for the church (St. Ignatius) so I'm waiting to receive word back from her on that. I can then send out our Save the Date cards and launch (!!) our website.

We're still looking up venues and the pros and cons of them all! It's so hard to decide when we haven't seen them.

After that then - it'll be paperwork and then all the usuals like dress, flowers, suits etc to organise.

Looks like we're the only ones!
The trip went well - we went back to the hotel we stayed in the summer before last. We had a fair idea that this was the place we wanted for our reception but had planned to view a few more. IN the end we only looked at one more and it didn't sway us.
The hotel is in a little village about 20 mins from Dubrovnik. Plan is to have the ceremony in St Blaise, followed by the boat to Cavtat (the village) and reception on a terrace of the hotel.
I need to get that form for the church back to NIna. We're doing invitations and setting up our website at the moment, and i'm heading in to order my dress during the week - its all happening now!

It's getting exciting isn't it??
I just got a mail from Nina saying that my church date has been confirmed so i can go ahead and send out my Save the Date cards!!!
I think we've picked a hotel - i like the look of the Excelsior - i didn't get to see it though when i was there - did you go in there by any chance? Let me know what it's like if you did! We're going for the covered terrace for our reception and then moving into the nightclub next door from 12 onwards.
Have you gotten the dvd from Nina to check out bands/music etc? I haven't yet.
I now have to pick out the menu - i didn't think i'd have to do that so soon! Have you signed a contract with Nina yet? i'd like to do that before I send a deposit to the hotel.
Also, i want to do the boat trip from after the ceremony to the hotel - just like your doing but Nina has just told me that the water is too shallow beside the Excelsior to pull in there so it might just have to be a trip around the harbour or wherever for champagne reception and then onto the reception by foot maybe??? i can't wait for that bit - it'll be so different!! Did Nina tell you the cost of it? She quoted anywhere between 1500 and 3000 depending on the boat size required and type of boat etc!! i think it'll be worth it though.
How many guests do you think you'll have?

Sorry for the long post and all the questions but it's exciting to talk to someone going through it all at the same time as me!!
I'm sure there must be more Croatia Brides out there!!

Hi Guys,

Great to find this thread. How you both keeping. I'm also in the process of arranging a date for our wedding in Dubrovnik and using Nina.

We are thinking of getting married in the church in Cavtat and then getting the boat to Dubrovnik for the wedding reception.

Not sure yet what venue we will pick also liking the look of the Excelsior but would also love to hear of the venue in Cavtat.

It's exciting eh.

Hope to hear from you both soon and congrats

Dubrovnik Wedding

Postby clodhopper » Wed Nov 05, 2021 9:08 pm

Hi Pet,

Good to hear from you. We are getting married early in July just waiting to hear back from Nina with confirmation of date. We are thinking of having the church bit in Cavtat and maybe the reception in Excelsior although it's hard to know before seeing either place. We were in Dubrovnik and a good bit of Croatia this summer and loved it but didnt get engaged until September so wasnt even thinking about wedding while we were over there.

What date are you getting married? Have you done anything about your dress etc etc yet

Hope to chat soon

Morning Croatian brides!
So we're all getting married very close to eachother!
I've been so busy in work I've barely had time to think about it, but things have calmed down now so I'm back on it.
I have an appointment tomorrow to try on the dress for one last time and if all goes to plan order it!

I have a few questions for you guys:
Have you thought about music? (I haven't got the dvd from Nina yet) I am not sure about bands, and was thinking of having a dj only...or I was thinking about the jazz band for a bit and then a dj?
When are you sending out invitations? We're hoping to send ours out at the beginning of December, and thinking of launching the website at the same time.
We havn't signed the contract with Nina but will do as soon as she asks. She seems to have a specific timetable for things so I'll just wait for my cue.
We have chosen a menu, she urged us to do this sooner rather than later to secure this years prices. I'm sure its different for each hotel. We were also told that the hotel will be flexible when it comes closer to the time.
We're thinking of going back in May, maybe over the bank holiday, to taste the menu, look at decorations and flowers, and get a hair and makeup trial done.
This forum is great - its brilliant to have people to chat to about this stuff!

yes we're all summer brides!! it's going to be so hot over there at that time! lovely sunshine!

Good luck with the dress - what's it like or do you want to say. I'm not talking about mine because my OH might be reading this!!

Haven't thought about music yet at all - will probably leave that to OH (though not sure rock/heavy metal music will be appreciated by all so will have to supervise :o0 ). We're planning to go to the disco beside the hotel from about 12 onwards as we can't have music outside on the terrace after that. But we will need music for the hours after the meal so that's something to think about.

I'm going to send out save the dates and launch website in next few days. then send out the invites May/June next year - haven't thought about it fully.
I was just doing up info for the website and emailed croatiatours.ie and concordetravel.ie - both of whom deal with flights/accom in dubrovnik. They were both very helpful. Concorde said they do a discount if a lot of guests book through them - just an idea...

Yeah Nina said the next thing we need to do is pick the menu! not sure what to pick! it's a bit confusing really.

Think we will have to head over again some time too - not sure how far the budget can stretch though!!

O, question BallerinaBride, did u meet Nina when u were there?
i was supposed to meet her when i was over there in the summer. i know she was sick at the time and probably very busy too but she didn't meet me and didn't tell anyone else about the meeting. eventually - 3 hrs later - another girl came but i wasn't very happy about it. i'm not one for complaining but i just hope it's not a bad omen.......

Ok very long post - sorry and must get back to work!! this is addictive!

I met with Kristina when I was over there who was relaly nice and helpful. I had been dealing with Nina before that but she was sick and couldn't meet me. Kristina was there on time though and brought us around the churches and venues, she even brought us to a restaurant that her mum is a cook and and gave us complimentary pancakes!
I was originally going to go for a ballerina length dress (hence username!), but as soon as I tried on a long dress I changed my mind! Actually the dress I am (hopefully) getting tmw is the second one I tried on, the first one was a ballerina length. The assistant picked it out for me and it was perfect!
Its off the shoulder, all over lace by Novia D'Art....and I adore it! Unfortunately there are no good pictures of it online.
How many guests do you have?
We are hoping for 80 max. The terrace we have chosen only fits that number.
The menu we chose is 6 courses (seemed to be the standard in the hotel??!), hopefully they are all quite small though. We considered a buffet as we are going for quite a relaxed style but the terrace won't fit the 80 plus the buffet unfortunately.

yeah it was Kristina that i met too. She didn't know about the meeting so was unprepared and we only stayed in the President Hotel chatting. She was lovely but i wasn't very prepared for it either. She kept asking me what i wanted and i didn't know then - i thought she'd be telling me that i could have x, y or z and i'd have to pick from that but it's not like that! Also i was on my own so that didn't help. i'm confident that they know what they're doing though so happy to stick with them.

must go and have a look at that dress so - see if i can pick it out!!! sounds gorgeous - i love lace on dresses.

As for numbers...... well we've about 145 on our list so far to invite - that doesn't include parents friends etc that they might want to invite. We're hoping it'll be around 80 that come out with us but it might be more with the very excited responses we've had verbally so far!! It will prob change though when it comes to people actually booking their holiday.

Its amazing isn't it - nearly everyone we've said it to is saying they'll DEFINATELY come!
You're right though, nearer the time there will probably be a lot of cancellations.
I hope so as our list is about 110, and we really can't go over 80 or so!

Hi BallerinaBride and all

I am hopefully planning a wedding in Dubrovnik in Aug next year too. Though I am struggling with the church. The church has said they are renovating St Blaise and now St Ignatius also. And they have said the Cathedral is not available until after 6pm

Are you sure you guys have managed to secure St Blaise/Ignatius?

Thanks,
healyc
