Hi Buzzo

We'd such a lovely 1st Christmas with our LO, how was yours?
Baba had a great time at the Christmas dinner table and tucked into some turkey, carrots and runner beans. She drew the line at brussel sprouts (don't we all..!?).
Not sure how much was actually ingested as we are still at the very early stages.

We did visit some relations and altho nothing was said i think they thought i must be a lazy mother or something not to have brought pre prepared purees with us and instead to feed her off my own dinner plate... :-8 (laziness is only part of it :o0 )

Just wanted to ask, does anyone give tap water or is there a minumum age where you should still be giving cool boiled water? LO is 6m old.

Hope all the rest of you hafd great Christmases and the BLW went well?

just curious to those who do the BLW route, does your LO wake up more at night? As in if you are starting off with BLW and they dont eat very much can they wake up hungry? Have tried DD2 with sticks of Butternut squash today which i had steamed and again no interest. As i am back to work next Week i unfortunately wont be able to do fully BLW. Will try and do a combo of both. Brought back DF on DD2 three nights ago as i found her waking earlier at night and am thinking its because of lack of solids so curious to know how it goes with BLW babies.

By the way fortycoats, i give tap water from 6 months

We have done BLW since just before 6 months. DD has never had a spoon feed, though from about 7 months she would eat things like yogurt from a spoon if I handed to preloaded to her. I am sure there are loads of mammies who have done a combination though.

She was formula fed by that stage on 4 bottles a day. I had dropped the dream feed around 5 months. I didn't really notice any problems with sleep or early waking that I would put down to hunger. She goes down to bed around 7pm and not a peep ( bar a couple if dummy plugs) until around 6.30am. I think she was satisfied by her formula and as her solid intake upped she naturally started taking less formula.

She was very good for Christmas Day, it was lovely for us all to be able to enjoy it together and no ones dinner had to go cold while feeding DD!

Hi all, happy new year.We had a lovely BLW Christmas. DD was great and enjoyed her turkey, roast potatoes and even a brussels sprout (which is one more than her dad had!). Everyone was very impressed by her, and it was great to have her take part in the family Christmas dinner.

On a less enjoyable note now - Does anyone have any tips on dealing with constipation :-8 ? DD is having problems for the last two days, she's straining to do a poo and it seems to hurt her to the extent that she will cry a little when she goes. I've tried increasing her water intake, and have given her plenty of fruit and veg over the last day, but she still seems to be having problems. Are there any particular foods that I should avoid or that I should try to include? Is she too young yet for fruit juices I wonder?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

whiterabbit, dd had constipation when she was about 7/8months. It's horrible to see them in pain like that. We gave her orange juice diluted with a little water. We also gave her some prunce juice diluted with water. Seemed to do the trick.

Hope your dd is better soon,

The water you're giving, is it cooled, boiled water? I think that's better for consitpation than regular water. DD got a bit bunged up early on and I found oranges brilliant - she loves mandarins, sweet enough to be tasty and perfectly sized for little hands! You could also try kiwi, but watch out for the results, they tend to be a bit extreme...

Aaaaaahhhh!! I've just spent lunchtime trying not to get cross with my 9.5month old as she investigates hanging over the edge of her chair and dropping food! I keep doing oh-oh noises and saying no oh-ohs when she's looking like chucking something she likes. How long does this phase last?? I'm sick of cleaning my floor twice a day!!!

Ah yes, the wonder of the mess! I remember the dropping...it's part of their development apparently, around that age they love to drop things to see what happens, it does eventualy pass! You can get a floor cover/plastic mat thing from Anabel Karmel which is supposed to be very good, but on the suggestion of a friend, I got a cheap shower curtain in Pennys and just put that on the floor under the high chair. It's huge so it gets all the droppings and it's really easy to bundle up and shake it outside the back door or throw it in the washing machine, and it dries really quickly.

Ah I know bless her, she's only doing what's completely natural for her, that's why I didnt want to get annoyed with her. I think I'm just having one of those days :-8
Shower curtain is a great idea! My lo sits in a metoo chair, clamped onto a (wall fixed) breakfast bar, so there's a stainless steel pole that would get in the way if the mat, but maybe we could just slit it around the pole.....thanks!
