All very biased opinions here! Singers say no way and musicians say yes way!
I suppose it's personal choice isn't it? As a singer who regularly uses a quartet and absolutely loves the sound, I found a way to compromise...I just love some pieces of music with just quartet but having sat through a couple of weddings myself with just instrumental I personally felt it was a bit boring (biased much lol!)

What I do is book a trio and myself on vocals, various line ups but mostly violin, cello, pianist and myself - not the standard line up I know but wow does it sound fantastic! Other times violin, cello, viola and vox. Best of both worlds for a very similar price, its a win win! Plus as most of us read music it's so easy to get sheet music for anything you want sung or played at your wedding.
