The Fantabulous DIY Wedding Thread

Re: The Fantabulous DIY Wedding Thread

Well our wedding has been and gone! Seems like it never happened now. It seems a lifetime ago. Yet its only 3 and a half months. With all the drama in the lead up and on the day we still find it hard to look back on the day and think only happy thoughts. Enjoying married life to its full now and that is the best part.

Just wanted to pop in here and say I added a blog post to my blog on the DIY things that were done for our wedding. They were actually the highlight of the day for us in the end as they made it so personal.

http://www.helena-ag-cniotail.blogspot.com/

Hope you girls enjoy the run up and there are no bumps in the road and don't get too stressed with any of the DIY stuff. I know I had a few moments of panic thinking I wouldn't get everything done but got there in the end. Actually had a cousin of my hubbys ask me to make his wedding invites after he saw ours I had to refuse as it was such a lot of work and by the time I added up costs and labor it would have been just as expensive for him and he mentioned being on a budget.

Wishing everyone a fantastic wedding!

Those glasses are brilliant! Well done you! :lvs

I have done a spot of DIY'ing for my wedding. Its all packed up now and being sent off to Rome today! Forgot to take pics of some of it.

Have hangers made for the girls too but they're not finished yet. Forgot to take a pic of the chair signs actually on the chairs :duh: but they were just hung up with ivory ribbon. Look really cute!
My MOH made fabulous pew ends which I also forgot to take a picture of. They are bird seeds in a heart shape and with a ribbon bow on them.

As you can see we are having a "bird theme". My hubby to be is an avid birder so thought it would be a nice way to make the day personal for both of us and make him interested in the planning! :)

The invites with the characitures (I cannot spell that word) are just fantastic, love them!

Glasses are fabulous, might do something else for the girls too yet, will keep this in mind!

Love the bird themed bits too, especially the little nests, adorable!

Brilliant x

Thanks all, nice to get positive feedback. You know when you look at something for so long you start to think its not as nice. I'm like that with everything I make. Delighted now! :thnk

Hey girls,

I'm looking for some mass booklet advice please!!!

I have them all typed up, have made up a wee poem to make them extra personal and have even designed a front and back cover for them!!

Just trying to decide now if I should get someone to print them up for me or should I try and do this myself??!!
Anyone who has done it themselves, is it costly, does it take ages for them to print? Does it use up loads of ink?? What paper did you use?

All help greatly appreciated!!

I got a ream of "ordinary" cream A4 paper for the inside, and some thicker paper for the covers. I am planning on printing mine myself - I'm going to print 100. I printed 50 invites and 200 evening invite inserts for my friend before and I didn't use a whole cartridge of black ink - but I've a feeling I might need another cartridge before I'm done. I also need to buy a long reach stapler so all in all, if my estimates come in right, mine will cost:

€9 for paper
€6 for thicker paper
€25 for a new ink cartridge (have one over 3/4 full at the minute)
€17 for long reach stapler

At a total of €57 to have 100 booklets and covers printed and stapled. If you estimate your costs, compare them to what printing companies charge and you should be able to see what the better option is - I'm doing mine really because I don't know any printing companies locally and I'll need samples beforehand and might have to wait to add readers nearer the time so I wouldn't be able to wait for them. Hope that helped a little bit!

Does anyone have the settings you need to print A5 mass booklets??
I've got mass booklets at home and templates that great wollies have sent me, but I don't know how to go about printing them??
I haven't got a fancy printer that prints duplex??

AwkwardAnnie sorry I don't have the setting, I assume if you use an A5 template the pages are set up though?

Had a big reply and realised none of it is relevant!! Annie I had to use several sheets of practice paper before I got it right - I typed out my booklets in landscape form (split the page in two) and on the settings I selected plain paper, landscape, and fit to page. I just folded it in half then - I need to have a play around with the margins but it's trial and error. My printer is just a basic printer.

Above all the DIY things..... THIS. This is just... O:| Honest to God considering printing the bare bones of it on one A4 sheet front and back and be done with it. Headwrecking.

hey guys looking for some DIY advice. Ive been stupidly fussy about my invites and now with just little over 4 months to go Im wondering is my plan to DIY ridiculous and just asking for stress! I saw a style of invite last night on a well known Irish site and whilest I don't like the design (i.e the pictures and writing) they use I love the style and layout, and I would love to do something similar in my own design.
If I dont DIY what are my options? Will I have to go with this company and incur all the extra charges to change the design etc? Or who else could do it for me?...I am totally clueless about this part!!

I love them too. Its a really nice idea, wish I had seen these before I got married. They are very quirky and different.
