Mortgage debt forgiveness?

Re: Mortgage debt forgiveness?

Littlebo, I agree with you.

However, it's easy to see why people get riled up when on one hand someone denies any responsibility for the situation they're in and in the same post slams a whole cross section of people based on their situation, most of whom are decent honest people who are at no fault either.

I feel sorry for anyone who is in NE, or struggling with their mortgage. They took a gamble, made a decision and it went wrong. They have my utmost sympathy. But that doesn't mean there's no personal responsibility, and when people try to blame everyone and their mother except themselves then others will get frustrated.

We need to remember as well that plenty of people who didn't buy during the madness got laughed at, got told how others were living it up etc and it was shoved in their face everyday. It's not that surprising that some of these people will now be thinking/saying 'I told you so' kind of thing.

Littlebo, Micls summed things up pretty well in her post. It's a bit rich to slam people in receipt of State subsidies such as social welfare payments for single parents (and foreigners, as the poster mentioned) and then demand a subsidy in the form of debt write down from the same State. And I think we should remember not everyone did buy. It was the old story of 'if everyone else jumped off a cliff would you jump off too?". My husband didn't buy a house because he felt they were overpriced and a bubble was likely to burst. I did buy a house and its in NE. I took a chance on the Irish property market, he didn't. He bought shares, they've lost a lot of their value, but there's no suggestion he should be compensated for the loss they've incurred or the loss to his pension. It's a serious decision to take out a mortgage for 20, 30 or 40 years for a substantial amount of money. Not everyone decided that decision was for them and they've remained in the private rental sector. I still maintain that no one can honestly say they were forced to buy a house, or shares, or an expensive car every year. Such things were the choices made by adults and I don't think you can decide to absolve yourself of any responsibility because supposedly everyone else was at it too.

first of all i have no problem with anyone claiming benfits which they are entitled too... but again if the goverment brought in a proper scheme for id cards for everyone im sure they would save millions on social welfare which is being coned out of the goverment by both irish and non irish alike... this has been shown many times on undercover tv programmes...

i seriously reckon at least 50% of single mothers receiveing benfits as single mothers are not so called single mothers... they get money from the kids fathers, they have boyfriends staying permantly, they get back to school allowances for being on there so called low income ect... so u go to the social welfare claim to be "a single parent" and u walk out with all these benfits.... eeemmmm that wasnt hard >:o(

so im back to our rediclious goverment that are only out to fill there own pockets again... NOT DOING THERE JOBS RIGHT... THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE EVERYDAY GOOD HONEST HARDWORKING PEOPLE WHO ARE UP TO THERE ASSES IN DEPT BECAUSE OF THERE MISTAKES... NO THEY DIDNT PUT A GUN TO ANYONES HEAD TO SIGN UP TO A LIFE OF MISERY IN DEBT... BUT THEY FAILED TO TELL ANYONE THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE A LIFE OF MISERY AND DEBT... THEY JUST PAINTED THIS ROSEY PICTURE TO SUCK US ALL IN TO LINE THERE OWN POCKETS!!!!
GUESS WHAT...i cant get my ticker working and ive given up trying!!!!!!!

I presume you've been diligent about reporting these myriad false claims? Also, if its that easy to claim money why don't you head down to the local SW office and cash in?

Alternatively, you could try Gaviscon. I'd recommend the peppermint flavour.

+1 to this.
I know of no one claiming any benefits to which they are not entitled but if I did know would have no issue reporting them as I am being crucified with tax.

You are very hung up on negative equity perfection.
Did you buy your home as a forever home? If so then you don't need to worry about the NE, you just need to engage with the bank and pay off your mortgage in a way that will keep you living there and with some sort of standard of life.
It was suggested that you cancel the DD and set up a standing order for what you can afford to pay - this is what I would do if I were in your situation.
Also going to MABS would be of benefit too as they are used to dealing with situations such as yours.

Hope it all works out for you.

Well, when you put it like that.

To Do List
Divorce (foreign) husband
Get knocked up
Become single ;o) mother
Claim 'all these benfits'
Live happily ever after

Plan.

Seriously perfection, you'd do well to get your own house in order (pun intended) and leave your begrudgery at the door. Your wild claims about fraudulent claims are out of order, insulting and inaccurate.

+1, imo NE is irrelevant unless you are trying to sell your home.

im not attacking the real single mothers out there... but seriously people if u think this is not happening sorry for bursting ur bubble but get a grip its 2012 n why the hell do u think forginers are still here ... theres no work in this country!!!! because its so so easy to scam the system here...

do u think the programmes on tv3 every wk about how rediclious our system is and how easy it is to scam are fake!!!

and i know its funny... but yes it doesnt seem hard to get these benfits thats why we have so many spongers in this country, you dont go to australia ready to drop a baby with zero in ur bank account cause u dont get in... in ireland however it seams the norm and u get free house free money n theres no questions asked... DOES THIS NOT SEEM TOTALLY REDICLIOUS TO U!!!
... now i DONT WANT HANDOUTS but our bankers and goverments mistakes should be punished and not by the taxpayers... and the thing is yes in the boom the lined there pockets and now were paying the price but as long as all the social welfare fraud is contuining and its so easy to walk into this country and get handouts then THERE STILL NOT DOING THERE JOB!!!
GUESS WHAT...i cant get my ticker working and ive given up trying!!!!!!!

If its that easy, why aren't you doing it? And I wouldn't base my opinions on the TV equivalent of the Daily Mail. Have you reported all these scammers perfection?

ALSO ANNA... u only get 99% of these benfits if u have a house from the sw... or are in reciept of rent allowance... a morgage is not taken into account when going to sw for anything, there attitude is well if u have a house u dont claim any sw just sell ur assets (ur house) and u wont need to go to sw...
only prob is ur asset is no longer an asset!!!

As I said, if I was as aware of the amount of SW fraud (50% of lone parents it seems, plus foreigners) being committed as you are I'd be reporting it. Plus, people get tax and interest relief on mortgages, child benefit, exceptional needs payments etc, none of which are confined to those living in 'a house from the sw'.
