Says Mary Beard, who is presenting a show on Roman history is 'too ugly for television'.

Ah, the irony of it all. A woman who came to our attention for critising women who judge her on the basis of her appearance, now doing exactly that with Mary Beard.

I really wish this woman would just go away.

Desperate attempt at attention seeking. She must really hate how quiet it has gone since she became the yesterday's fish and chips...

I know this is just the reaction she's looking for but I'm going to say it anyway, WHAT A F*CKING B*TCH. +1 NittyGritty, go away already Samantha Brick, you are a dimwit being made a fool of by the rag you work for.

she looked lovely in that video... you can see that she was probably very pretty when she was younger.

i wonder what she thinks of attractive women that are not hated or abused by other women.

she apparently said she was an ugly duckling. ive come across a significant percentage of unattractive people who have a personality to match. maybe thats just my experience, but people with a chip on their shoulder. 'ill abuse you before you abuse me' sort of mentality. begrudging and bitchy. maybe she was one of those for a long time and hasnt been able to shake it.

“The greatest tragedy isn’t Ms Beard’s wild hair, ungainly posture or make-up free face: it’s the fact that the BBC didn’t offer her guidance on her appearance in the first place.”

FFS... give me strength. What a t*t. There are no words to adequately describe what a knob this wan is coming across as.

I wonder did Samantha Brick ever stop to think that maybe the BBC DID offer her guidance with her wardrobe, or offer to put make up on her and Mary Beard say 'No thanks, I'm grand?'

Cos, you know, Mary is confident in herself and the programme she was presenting not to want hair and make-up?

I wonder does it ever enter her tiny little mind that not everybody cares about looks, not everybody puts the same importance on looks that she does, not everybody is so insecure that they HAVE to be dolled up at every given moment?

I wonder does Samantha Brick ever think 'I like fashion and make-up, that woman over there isn't so interested in it. And that's grand.' Like make-up, don't like make-up it's a personal choice and whichever you choose is fine?

She's just so blinded by her own narcissism, her own insecurities and her own warped view of women that she can't see past the end of her perfectly powdered nose.

Exactly. Maybe Mary Beard thought 'Make up? And heels? While I'm whizzing around the heat and dust of Rome? No thanks, I'm better off in my usual clothes". I actually enjoy seeing a programme with someone who's obviously an expert in the field and relishes imparting information, while clearly being comfortable in her skin. Makes a nice, refreshing change.

SK... You're clearly hysterical. Of course women on t.v. should all look like Kim Kardashian. We don't want to look at or listen to a minger... Do we? The subject matter is irrelevant. Only 'beautiful' women can represent the female of the species on t.v. It shouldn't matter what she is saying, just that she is perfectly coiffeured and makes us envy her. TV should be an endless exercise in envy and making women feel they aren't good enough.

It's all about self improvment doncha know???

Sorry sorry, you're right. Of course. Mingers are v bad, yo'ure right.

What's depressing is there are people who think that - it doesn't matter what she's saying, once she looks good.

I know... It's depressing really.

I was watching the documentary about Nuala O'Faolain and her death. I was shocked when my mother was saying how many friends were almost giving out about Marian Finucanes appearance. Twas mad... like they resented her for not looking 40 or something. It was their reaction surprised me most. Like "she knew she'd be on tele, wouldn't you think she try harder".... It's all subjective but I thought she scrubbed up well anyway but given the subject matter is it even relevent?!

Do people/women expect these people to represent them? Be role models? Like a woman on television has to be an ambassador for other 30/40/50/60 year old everywhere... Do it for us - kind of mentality.

I don't know.. the mind boggles.
