Went to this place one time where the chocolate cake was called 'Chocco Lumpy Bumpy'. I really really REALLY wanted it cos it looked gorgeous coming out to the table next to ours, but I was damned if I was going to ask for Chocco Lumpy Bumpy. I'm a 33 year old woman for crying out loud.

I also dislike the new craze for calling things 'amazeballs'.

Have you ever watched Choccywoccydoodah?? new program on sky something about a chocolate shop in London, they made a 30lb easter egg a few weeks ago, it was totes amazeballs!

Mastrubate. (where the hell did that word come from!, A master who used to bate himself!!!)
:yelrotflmaosmilie:

The really boring explanation for this is that it's a latin derivative literally meaning 'to defile by hand' (there ya go now, useless fact of the day)

I hate the words panties and mucus as mentioned by other posters but also, and I really don't know why, I hate the word socks. I know, I'm a right freak, I'll go now.

Sewerage.
Slurry.
The phrase 'going forward'.
Chick lit.

One thing that wrecks my head is calling adult women 'girls'. The midwife at my antenatal classes constantly refers to us as 'girls' and it is so annoying. As are the phrases 'girls night out' and 'having a girly catch up'.

Candlequeen, I totally forgot about "banter", I can't abide it, especially when people shorten it to "bant" as in, "man, that party last night was amazing bant". >:o( Simples annoys me too, please don't pick up vocabulary from advertising, I don't like it and I won't have it! OH told me his most hated word is "cheesy" when used to describe music, people are always saying to him about his band "lovin' the cheesy tunes", according to him there's only good or bad music and just because you like something that's very popular or you think something is a bit naff doesn't mean it is "cheesy", it's usually just a great pop song. He also thinks people hide behind the word "cheesy" just in case someone else weighs in saying they think the song is cr@p. Good point.

Should also add that there's a few American words that need to be nuked from orbit. They make NO sense: normalcy, irregardless, obligated. David Mitchell covers American English nicely here...
