We didnt go on a desert safari when we were there but we did eat a lot!!!
My big recommendations are

Al mahara in Burj Al Arab (holy god it was amazing, i took hubby there for his 30th and cost a fortune but a the most wonderful memories ever :lvs :lvs ). Go up to the bar on the top floor for a few scoops afterwards. Really lovely.

Picies restaurant (in the Madinat, Jumeirah) if you love seafood :cool Sit out doors and watch the boats go by and your right at the foot of the Burj.

We stayed at the Hilton Jumeirah, absolutely fantastic, couldnt recommend it enough. It was our favourite holiday so far to go on (beat our honeymoon!!). So much so that we are thinking of going back again in November... :o0 :o0
Have fun!! Its Disney for adults!!!

Really enjoyed the glass covered dinner boat on the creek. Its the only one like it there, although there are alot of dinner boat cruises the food was really nice on this one and its a very modern boat too.

We did the desert safari and cant remember the name of it now but our holiday rep booked it for us. It was good value for money in terms of sights, at the end they take you to a souk for a 'cultural' evening, bit of bellydancing, ye know yourself, but they do great fresh kebabs on the night!

I did the aqua venture water park but I wouldnt be mad about it. I couldnt go on the leap of faith, too chicken :eek

If I went back I would stay at a hotel on the beach whereas we stayed downtown which made it feel more like a citybreak to me.

I'm pretty sure the desert trip we went on was by this crowd http://www.desertsafaridubaitours.com/

although it was arranged through our hotel so can't be certain, but the pictures look exactly like what we did and it was great fun! Seeing my Mam smoking sheesha is one of my favourite memories of that trip..

The one thing that I always remember from Dubai is watching the dancing fountains outside the Dubai Mall, it's really amazing and draws a huge crowd every evening, definitely a must see! I thought I'd never be back there but turns out am going again next week to meet a friend, not sure what we'll do this time, but fountains are top of the list!

Have a great trip :)

Thanks guys. It's great to get recommendations.

Gonna have to review my list though as I totted up the costs there and it's a little bit too extravagant even for a honeymoon. :o(

Yes I did find it quite expensive, unless you stay by the pool most days, most activities cost a bit. We did go to the shopping malls and they are absolutely massive! But I found most of the stuff there much the same price than at home so dont worry about missing out on anything there. They are definitely a must see in terms of seeing how the emirates live, how all the ladies dress and hang out in groups separate from the young men, then seeing them pick up their luxury cars at the end of the night is really seeing how the other half live. And you can see the aquarium there too which is great to watch for free for a little while, dont know if it gets any better on the inside.

Oh yeah I forgot we did the red bus tour which is good to get your bearings, includes a free boat trip across the creek which covers that! You can also get dropped off at most of the malls too.

We spent a nice few evenings having dinner down by the marina, just having a walk around. Just remember you wont get alcohol in the restaurants, unless it is attached to a hotel. I missed a glass of wine with my dinner but DH is a teetotaler so it didnt bother him as much.

Gosh, I didnt think we did much when we were there but now I could write and write! Im becoming a Dubai bore :-8

If you do a search for "Dubai recommendations" a very kind wollie gave me a brilliant list of places to eat/drink/things to do/see before we went last year.
Definitely either go for drinks/afternoon tea/dinner in the Burj al Arab - it's a fantastic experience. We went for afternoon tea (lunch!) and it was definitely something not to be missed - a brilliant experience!
Can't remember which company we did the safari with as our hotel booked it but I'd highly recommend it...great craic!
We went for dinner in a lovely restaurant in Jumeirah Beach hotel that was right underneath the Burj Al Arab so you get a completely different view of the hotel by night which was lovely. Can't think of the name of it right now but it's on the list of recommendations on the other thread I mentioned.
Also - make sure you catch the fountain show at Dubai Mall. If you go for food in Rivington Grill in Souk al Bahar and sit outside on the balcony you get a great view of the fountains. Nice with a good meal & a nice glass of wine!
I think my favourite meal over there was in a restaurant in The Atlantis called "Rostang". It was out of this world!!
A must do for me was taking an abra ride and then strolling through the old souks.

Enjoy - it's an amazing city & definitely agree that it's like a Disney World for adults!
