Social Networking... POLL

Postby Ellefun » Thu May 03, 2022 1:04 pm

Just wondering how many other sites people use. Would you use others with much regularity or just have a log-in but only dip in and out. Are you a self confessed networking addict?

I used to be on Facebook but de-activated my account. Was a member of Boards but could never warm to it. Keep meaning to join LinkedIn but feel like a bit of a loser on it, surrounded by the high achievers :o( .

Hope the poll is o.k; I tried to cover as many bases as I could think of..... 3 options per respondent if needed. Just being nosey; it's not for research purposes. :o0

I use WOL, fb and used to use a couple of other less known ones but no longer on those as they died away. It suits me - I live 250 miles from home so fb is handy for keeping in touch along with texting and email.

OH hates FB with a passion and doesn't like having photos up etc - yet is a member and has more "friends" on there than me. He can't understand why people post on their walls etc. My view is that you can still post without everyone knowing the colour of your knickers, just be careful of what you put on there.

Thought there would be more people on Facebook (obviously a WOL poll isn't indicative of everyone on FB, but you know what I mean). Everyone and their pets seem to have an FB page!

I chose Facebook as it's probably the one I use most frequently, but I also use Twitter, WOL, Pinterest and Goodreads, last two a form of social networking I reckon. I didn't pick all of the above as I don't use linkedin, myspace, bebo and the likes. I think social networking is amazing, as long as you're careful about what you post. I post alot on Facebook and I don't think I've ever given away anything too personal, it's just a bit of fun and I think people are overly paranoid about it. It's a fantastic tool for maintaining contact with family and friends at home or abroad, great for organising events and wonderful free advertising for small businesses (I speak from experience, I have gained many clients through my facebook page but would only treat someone who had mutual friends with me iykwim). I genuinely think social networking is the future, I've said it before but I think the people who balk at or slag it now are like the people in the late 90s who said they'd never get a mobile phone!! :o0

Facebook, WOL and educationposts are my usual haunts. Find FB great for keeping in touch with friends abroad/elsewhere in the country. I'm slowly weaning myself off WOL and use educationposts for school resources.
I've only lately signed up to Twitter - not sure I'm all that fond of it tbh and I also use a travel website as we're planning a bit of travel for the summer & getting loads of ideas from it. Occasionally I dip into Boards but don't really like it.

I think, like everything else, social media can be a good thing if used sensibly.

I would have left WOL out as an option because obviously if you are voting you have to be using WOL - only saying because I had to drop it as an option so I could vote for other 3 (3 is maximum) fb, twitter, and linked-in. I use teh latter two only for professional purposes though, fb is social.

I use more than three so - in the poll I ticked WOL, Facebook and Twitter.
Also I regularly use Pinterest, Goodreads, EducationPosts and Soundcloud. Then I have accounts on LinkedIn, Google+, rollercoaster and boards.ie but I don't use them half as much.

Fair play to those on multiple hobby sites and networking sites. I've dipped my toe in some but can never keep all the passwords/log-in details memorised. I just never took to any other really but I don't find it a negative thing that others have fully embraced it. It's just not for me. My brother lives abroad, as do a few cousins but he isn't on FB either so Skype and e-mail sustain us until either of us visits. Maybe I am missing out but every time I think about getting back on FB I can never muster up the inclination.
