Dont Like my Wedding Dress Anymore

It's so pretty :) I agree with other posters get the hair and make up on and then see how you feel and there are other options if it's still not right.
I think its fab but you have to wear it not me! get a bm/sis and mammy there when you put it on and see what they think too

good luck and don't panic this can be fixed!

Hi I personally think your dress is really beautiful - very elegant and glam. I

is it worth remembering what initially drew you to your dress? You must have liked it even a wee bit to buy it? If you were buying a dress now what would you go for and would it differ much from the dress you've got?

I sometimes look at my dress and would like to change it (or be able to afford 5 different dresses for the day) as there were loads I liked. My dress is plain, very me but a classic. Sometimes I see dresses in magazines with sequence beautiful and all very glam and I think "that is what I should look like on my wedding day" even though it isn't me. I had a chance to choose a different dress and I chose my dress for a reason.

Obviously if you really hate your dress and you have an idea of what you want then go for it - you should feel amazing on your day.

I know if I don't feel amazing on my day it's because I'm listening to my stupid insecurities which want me to feel fat, tired and old!

i agree with everything that has been said here already. personally, i think your dress is gorgeous, but, again, i'm not the one wearing it.

can you be specific about what exactly it is about it that you don't like? i think once you pinpoint that, you can decide what to do about it.

apart from that, doubts about 'the dress' are very common! i think it's because there are such high expectations & generally a lot of pressure to get it right. i've been in the same boat myself, probably becuase i had envisioned getting something totally different and because i never got 'the one' feeling about my dress. i do like it, but i tried on lots of dresses and they were mostly all lovely. i did eventually decide on certain things that i had to have e.g. shape & fabric. i've had it over a year now & because it's such a long time I sometimes worry if i'll go off it. but if i feel myself getting doubts about it again, i ask myself what other kind of dress would i really go for, & i find myself comparing the other dresses to the one i've got & that is sort of reassuring.

with regard to charity shops - just to say my sister bought hers in barnardos in dun laoghaire & it was beautiful. we tried oxfam in town but at the time they had a poor selection - of course, this could be different now. but would just like to recommend that option if you decide to look again!

UPDATE. I got the my hair put up yesterday and tried dress on last night but i just feel nothing for this dress, I dont feel like everyone says when they talk about their chosen dress as "the one" , even worse i just dont like it on me. Ive decided to buy a new dress, so im off out this weekend with my sister on the hunt. Even writing this down that ive decided to buy a new dress makes me feel so much better its like its been hanging over my head for months...whyb i left it so long to say it to anyone is beyond me. There are a few shops with sample sales on so wish me luck. Im going to put the dress up for sale and hopefully that will make some contribution towards the new purchase. and thank you for all your advice really appreciated.

I thought it looked fab but if you really really don't like it then you're better off getting something else. Lots of dresses can be bought off the peg so I don't think time is against you.

The one thing I would say though is that I did not have that this is the one/ I'm so in love with this dress feeling. And I wouldn't say I'm alone. I was delighted with my dress, felt great in it and I made sure to get something that suited me and fitted me perfectly but there is no such thing as "the one", sure there are thousands of dresses out there!!! Just warning you that you are not necessarily going to fall head over heels in love with a dress.

Keep us posted on what you purchase!

I also didnt get that... Oh my god this is the one dress feeling! I just knew it suited me so well. In fact at my fittings I wasnt that keen at all. But now looking at my photos I just love it, it suited me so so well and Im happier now with it than I could have been. SO I agree with teapotty not to put yourself under too much pressure to feel that.

BUT in saying that definitely take a look in the sample sales, and let us know how you go!

Think the original dress is really classy btw. BEST of luck!!!!!!! fingers crossed for you!

Dont worry about not having the 'one' feeling about your dress. I didnt have it about mine. I loved loads of dresses and in the end it was a process of elimanation that made me choose my dress. I think the one feeling was invented by the wedding industry!!

Had a fitting this morning and feel totally nervous about the dress & and the veil. But I think thats just my personality. I rarely have a 'wow' feeling about dresses. As other posters said it is also the pressure to look your best ever on the day after so much planing... and praying we dont get it all wrong!! I splashed out on my dress and still feel like this! I think i would feel like this regardless of what dress I choose.

Best of luck with your search and go with a dress that shows you off!! :)

Would you take a trip to McElhinneys? They sell brand new off the rack in your size (I assume they are still in business?!!)

Dress looks gorgeous btw but you're obviously not happy so I think you've made the right decision to get another one, you could always try and sell this one and get a hundred or 2 back on it if you are lucky.

I had the wrong dress come in for me about 8 weeks before my wedding but luckily the dress was very similar and in the end I actually preferred it to the original one! So I took it and got it for half nothing, don't worry it will all work out in the end :thnk

I think you're right to go off and get a new dress....I had the very same problem, the dress I had bought was giving me nightmares - I couldn't sleep for worrying about it, it was a lovely dress but it just didn't suit me....i went off and bought another dress - a beautiful sample dress :lvs - now i didn't get "it's the ONE!" or anything but I just knew it was more "me." I really feel I've made the right decision - sometimes you just know when something feels right or not.
Best of luck with your dress hunt - I'm sure you'll find something that feels and looks fabulous :o)ll

You have a ton of options, there are brand new dresses online here, adverts.ie, sellmyweddingdress.net and a ton of other websites, there are used and sample dresses too, there are plenty of sample sales at this time of year and barnardos and oxfam sell brand new wedding dresses. Don't panic, you have a huge amount of options available to you. Good luck!!!

I really think you dress is fab! Very classy-love the satin! I also agree that I'm not sure I believe in this is "my dress feeling". I am still very nervous about mine and hoping it will all turn out ok.

But for what its worth and obviously depending on budget I think if you went with one of Kathy deStafford own dresses she would make it for you on time.

Good luck!

Well how did the dress shopping go? Did you find something?

Marie McElhron has a sample sale on at the moment as well. Tried on a few dresses there. Fabulous selection!

De Staffords can run up a dress made to measure in as little as a week as they are Irish - other irish designer I assume would be the same. I have heard of it being done before.
