Sash with dress or not?

Sash with dress or not?

Postby flor » Thu May 10, 2022 11:44 pm

hi wollies,

am wondering whether or not i should get a sash for my dress; have been looking at some beaded ones on etsy. my main concern is that with my body shape i need something to define my waist a bit, but am worried it might all look a bit too much - with flowers, veil, fur shrug, headpiece, earrings. any thoughts? (as the dress has a low back i'm guessing the sash would have to be trimmed & sewn on (so there wouldn't be a bow at the back))

I love your dress, its fabulous on you flor, you are going to be a beautiful bride. Id kill for your figure :-8

I personally think a sash would be gorgeous on the dress, and would really set it off. Why dont you get a sample of material from Hickeys or somewhere, stick a brooch on it, and see how it would look, just to give you an idea.

+1- the dress looks fabulous on you but I think a sash would definitely set it off beautifully. Do they have any that you could try in the shop where you are buying the dress?

Lovely, i too think that a sah would add to it. Maybe a flower on a band/ or some kind of feature in a slightly darker ivory?

thanks so much everyone for your feedback :)

@claddagh, thank you so much! that is a great idea about the ribbon & the brooch, think i'll head in to hickeys tomorrow & get some!

@ortees - i dont think the shop has them... i did mention in to them before but they said the dress is backless & it wouldn't work so it kind of put me off the idea at the time. it's still been at the back of my mind though, so i think i'll try the ribbon, & if it looks good, get a sash & have the dressmaker sew it on when it comes to the fitting.

Yay, another excuse to go shopping :o0

I think the sash would look strange as the dress is backless.
Your dress is beautiful as is. If you really want to add something, maybe just add a brooch

+1 to this.

I think you could add a brooch or something to the front but I worry how you'd make a sash work with the back of the dress- especially since the button detail at the back is so stunning.

had been wondering this also especially in light of the shop's comments, which is why i eventually decided to put it to the good wollies for feedback!

i think i'll try out with the ribbon anyway & see how it looks. i'm not sure where i'd put the brooch by itself, as i'd normally think you could only put the brooch where there is an existing feature like ruching or something, to bring it out. otherwise maybe it might look a bit random? or am i just not seeing it?!

have been looking at various styles of sashes on etsy & argh, it's confusing! :duh: Am crap at making these type of decisions - any more input would be appreciated! :thnk
