Twin mums to be

Re: Twin mums to be

Postby BabasFor2012 » Sat May 05, 2022 6:54 am

I've talked to a good few twin moms who have delivered twins naturally. I only had a section cause I didn't progress at all. Once twin 1 is head down they usually prefer you to try and deliver naturally. There are of course some risks, but a c-section also has many risks, being major abdominal surgery after all. Bear in mind too that looking after twins while trying to recover is no walk in the park. One other thing that strikes me actually is the timing, what would you be then 37 weeks? For fraternal twins that is very early to be deciding now they should be delivered. The longer they stay in the better, unless a medical reason turns up to suggest it. My twins were 2 days overdue and in hindsight I really wish I had let them be another few days, my daughter still had Lanugo on her ears and perhaps I would have avoided the section then.

Sorry to be questioning everything, but now is the time to investigate everything thoroughly, to my mind that doctor has no idea of the most recent Cochrane reviews. If you are happy to take the section approach from the get go fair enough, but it's a good idea to know your options.

Oh and by the way big congratulations to you, forgot to say that in my surprise and sleep deprived state :o0

thanks so much I really appreciate that. I will fully look into it. Im clueless so I just took the doc's word for it but he wasnt the specialist..only the fertility doc. I see the twin specialist Dr Caroll at Holles St on 7th June so he will know Im sure which is best for me.
How do you find it having twins? is it beyond tough??? Im so excited but terrified! What things would you advise? We are going private and its not like we have loads of money so we're hoping its worth it xx

We went public. As far as I am aware once it is twins the care is always going to be top notch, public or private. The only thing private will give you is shorter waiting times and specific appointment times and the possibility of a private room. We were public very lucky one of the days we had a six bed ward to ourselves.

Having twins is very, very hard for the first three months or so, but it does start to get easier, just make sure you have plenty of help at the start.

Hi ladies,

I am almost at the 12 week mark and found out yesterday that we are expecting twins, i'm still in utter shock and I think it will take a while to sink in.

For those that did suffer with MS did it linger for the entire pregnancy? I've been really sick since about 5 weeks and I'm finding it very tough at the moment. I've a 20 month old too so really hoping i'm back on my feet soon.

Take care for now.

Hi and congratulations to all twin mums to be. It's such an exciting time and tough going on your body isn't it? My twins are 5 months old next week - really don't know where the time has gone!!

Anyway, if you're now thinking about buggies/prams/car seats then you may be interested to know that I've just put my TWIN BUGABOO DONKEY including car seats and bases up on the P&B Buy and Sell forum. The whole system is good as new, carry cots used Jan to April, buggy seats/rain covers not used at all yet and car seats only used a handful of times Feb-April. Breaks my heart to sell as we love it and have found it great, but unfortunately both my little girls were recently diagnosed with dislocated hips so needed surgery and will be in hip casts/braces for the foreseeable future. This means they physically do not fit in any of the seats as their legs are sticking out wide - we've just bought 2 new Group 0-1 car seats and 2 single buggies :o(

Anyway, take a look at P&B Buy and Sell forum if you're interested.

And a final little piece of advice - make sure your little ones hips are checked at birth!! Dislocated hips is common with twins (lack of space in the womb) and especially common with girls!! Ours weren't picked up until 4 months old, so am furious with hospital and GP. Only I realised one of their legs wasn't right so pushed to get an orthopaedic appointment.

Best of luck with your pregnancy.

Hi windycity,

As far as I know they can spend up to 6 months in the same cot, thats from reading posts here and on other boards but I suppose it will depend on the size of the babies and how well they sleep together. I think initially i.e. the first 6 weeks they'll be grand but after that I plan to play it by ear and will probably get a second cot.

Hi girls
Hello Mrsh09,we were on the same thread September 2010 and am delighted to see your news! :o)ll (I was sweetmrs then!)
I hope this heat isn't killing you all,I never though I'd be complaining about the heat of Irish weather :o0 but it makes sleeping so much harder when you are the size of a house!
We have two moses baskets ready and one cot so will have to see what suits them when they arrive. Some swear on separating them from the start and others don't,I think I will play it by ear
Just looking at some tiny size babygros I bought from mothercare, god they are soooo small! :lvs
