Twin mums to be

Re: Twin mums to be

Postby Sweetmum » Thu Feb 02, 2022 4:17 pm

Thanks mrsminnie2011,I didn't know that What to expect had a section on twins and multiples, must have a look at it
We have a basic LeapFrog Digital Baby Monitor. It doesn't have movement monitor but I would recommend it as it does what it says it does and hasn't let us down so far

I am so sick with morning sickness today and am exhausted, really hope it passes soon.
Girls is it possible to feel movement at 12 weeks?
I have been getting flutters for the last few days, the same feeling I got with dd at 16 weeks, like a feather tingling on the inside

Hey there
Re monitor, when pregnant I mulled over which to get, one with this, one with that, well did so much mulling that I ended up having to pick one up really quickly two days before I went in for c section - shop had v small selection cos they'd sale on. Anyways, tis v basic, Panasonic, only extra it has is a temp gauge which is v handy. As my friend said to me-basic is all u need- she had one with motion sensors etc and she said she nearly drove herself crazy for the first few weeks observing every movement!
Get any basic one that will allow u to hear ur baby cry and sure what more do you need! Just my thoughts!

Can I pick brains here- was looking at those grobags/zip up sleep bags today and couldn't believe how light they were. Now I'm sure that they're warm enough for babies and are completely suitable etc etc - I'm not questioning that, and are obviously great for safety, but can someone explain why an adult duvet is 13 tog and a baby one is between 1 and 2.5/3?? Just has me puzzled?

Thanks for the tips on monitors, there's so much info out there it's hard not to get sucked in by it all! Think will leave the anglecare one and go for one with just sound and temperature!

Sweetmum, hope you feel better soon :thnk have to say I was very lucky and didn't suffer with morning sickness at all, only I think 2 mornings in total. I did feel little flutters from very early on, I can't remember exact week they started as I didn't know what they were until I mentioned it to the doctor! I thought it was just air bubbles or something!! I've been having full on kicks since about 19 weeks, strong enough for others to feel from the outside! And now I'm starting to get full body movement which is very strange feeling, can see the back of one baby move from one side to the other! It's such a great feeling though, think I'll miss it when they are born!!

Eliza Jane, wish I could help re: the grobags but I am just as confused as you! Do you use them solely on their own as replacements for blankets in the cot/crib? as for the togs...am totally clueless!!

congratulations on your twin pregnancy girls. Eliza Jane I can't answer your question re the tog on the grow bags but wanted to say that i have one from Ikea that my sis bought for me and it is quite heavy, i think its heavier than the ones from penneys and dunnes which i also have i'm not sure what the tog is on it but it feels thicker and i just wanted to let you know incase you happen to be in ikea soon.

I started using these instead of blankets and ds was kicking the blankets off him, i just have him in vest, babygro and cardigan, when it was cold i've use one of those fleecy babygros over his normal babygro and now that its a bit warmer i don't use the cardigan and he's fine with it.

One of the bags I got had a guide to the togs in it. I can't remember exactly, but it was something like 1.0 tog for over 24 degrees, 1.5 for 20-24, 2.0 for around 18 and 2.5 for less than that. Babies overheating is way worse than them being a bit cold, all that will happen if they get cold is they will wake up, overheating increases risks of SIDS. The 2.0 tog bags are at least as warm as a couple of blankets. I find them brilliant cause DS moves around so much in his sleep he used to wake all the time freezing, now he'll sleep at least 6 hours through.

Thanks a mill for advice re grobags. I'd say the 1.5 tog would be loads for me, house is v warm to the point if been stuffy warm- ive often had to go upstairs and open the window in the bedroom for half a hour before the girls go down for the night - today I've almost every window in the place wide opened- there's nothing worse than that dead heat.
I assume that the Dunnes versions are every bit as good as the original 'grobags' brand? The branded version just playing on mammys "I just want it to be safe" gene ya?

I have the Dunnes ones and they have been fine, only thing is I think they only have 2.5 tog and they are quite warm. TKMaxx have loads of lovely ones of different togs at very reasonable prices, you'll even likely pick up Grobag ones about half price. If you want to get the grobag ones and can't find them there, Mothercare in Dundalk had them buy one get a second half price the other day.

Hi all
Eliza just quickly on the grow bags - I got some online from Amazon this wk - think they're the slumber sac brand - all different togs available - they're lovely and pretty reasonable. THe actual grobag ones are so pricey!
Congrats to all the new twin moms to be!

Hi all

hope your all well? I posted this on the mums and kids forum also so sorry if your reading this a 2nd time! I'm 34 weeks pregnant with my twins and have an almost 2 year old also! people have started asking me about how much help I have organised for when we get home from hosp. This is something that I hadn't thought about at all! Everyone is telling me that it obviously hasn;t hit me yet that we are going to have 3 smallies under 3 but I am not worried that we won't cope so prob why I haven't thought about when we get home from hosp.

anyways just wondering is this something you would recommend for night time to get some one to stay or do you think its really not something to worry about?

ETA - someone was asking about the monitors? I had the angelcare one from DS and found it great it really gave me piece of mind I was a very nervous first time Mum! so we will use this one also for these little babies but we also got the angelcare movement only one (I got it in argos when baby week on) it recommends to use this for twins with the angelcare sound and movement monitor if that makes sense!!

thanks for your help

Hi
Congrats reynmc!! you are going to be busy!! but it is so exciting!!!

I am 35 weeks pregnant with twins and I have DS who will be 2 in May. To say it was a shock at the start would be an under statement. But I am now so looking forward to them arriving!

A girl at work had twins about 4 years ago and when she heard my news she couldn't have helped me more she was brilliant! We've become great friends and even now I'm finished up work she still emails me and stays in touch. I don't think I would have come to terms with it as quick. Alot of my group of friends don't have children or they have one and really haven't been in too much contact with me.

I can't answer your question about having 4 under the age of 3 i'm afraid! I did find reading the posts here very helpful and like someone said to me twins are given to those that can cope with them they should be seen as a blessing I think all our little one's are! this helped me get my head around it. I do worry sometimes how we are going to cope financially but look everything works out and thats what I am holding on to.

Best of luck and if I can help in anyway let me know but mine haven't arrived yet so I may not be the best person to ask! :o)ll

Just curious windycity, is there a reason why they are saying section at this stage?
