A friend of mine did have an unpleasant experience after telling a midwife she wasnt going to breast fed. She had had a bad pregnancy that had taken a lot out of her and physically she just didnt feel up to it. She was told that she was being silly and left in tears. I think this is uncalled for.

Omg bigsurprise that's an awful way to get treated after all it is a choice we have. I intend to try but won't be bullied by any1 if it isn't working.

Just wondering if anyone has seen or used the IKEA baby monitors - are they any good?

Hope all you girls are keeping well these days I'm doing ok cant wait for ml to start 4 wks left and counting.

Baby is breech, lying transverse, so I've been looking at the spinning babies exercises. Really hope I don't have to have a c-section, its the one thing I really want to avoid. Just hope baby will move in time, any tips would be great!

miss elf, we got an Angelcare monitor, I bought it on amazon as it was cheaper than Mothercare. I prefer the idea of a mat and it came highly recommended from a few first time parents.

God your poor friend Bigsurprise. What an awful experience. Some people are so trenchant on their views about BF and look down on you or make out like you love your baby less if god forbid you don't BF. At the end of the day it's all of our own choice and that should be respected no matter what way you decide to go. I have to say that while the midwives in Mt Carmel may think I'm a selfish wagon in their heads they certainly didn't express that to me openly! And in fairness to the lactation consultant at ante-natal class she did apologise that she couldn't promote FF in the class but did say that when baby arrives they'll do everything to support us to feed either way.

I have heard good things about them also just make sure you always remember to turn it off once baby is out of the cot as it will sound the alarm otherwise! A friend had a baby who would not sleep on his back and so this mat was recommended just for added reassurance as they had to place him on his tummy.

Yonex - My wee baba was measuring 5 lbs as well at its growth scan on Tuesday but am 1 week ahead of you, nice to know they are doing well:-)
Daisy Day - at my ante natal class they spoke very little about ff or bf but just said that breast is meant to be better but there would be help whichever you decided to do and if you were ff maybe buy Irish formula, that was about it. Was glad as am in two minds as whether to bf or not and am delighted it wasn't pushed on us either way.
ACS - re breech u cld try doing a handstand in the pool, its meant to be a good way to get the baby to move but I know its easier said than done but my SIL who is a delivery nurse in the States swears by it or try acupuncture. Hope the baby turn for you, will keep fingers and toes crossed.
In relation to the BF ACS have you thought abt going to a LeLeche league meeting, am debating going to one in May to see if it can make me see it in a more positive light than I do at the moment.

Girls can't believe we can say we are due next month:-)) So can't wait!! I seem to have morning sickness back as can't face food at the moment, have a bad tummy the last couple of days so hoping its just a phase and not for the next 7 weeks.
On the plus side its a Bank Holiday this weekend which means lots of rest, hair appointment and maybe watching a couple of movies. Hope everyone else is keeping well and have a fantastic weekend!

Mrsmcnow and ACS, sorry to hear about the high bp and swollen sore feet :action32 I hope you've managed to take it easy? mrsmcow, have you finished up much earlier than you were due to? When is babs due?

Bellabee, good to hear ante natal class went well.

It's great when the nursery starts coming together isn't it? DH painted ours last weekend and we hope to put the furniture into this weekend. Getting sitting room painted next week and prices for blinds and I hope that's it then! It feels like everything is happening so slowly because we only get time to do these things at the weekend....bloody work gets in the way O:| :o0

ACS we got a small but if info on bf at ante natal classes....like yourself and Bigsurprise, I'm HS too. Wrt a birth plan, I'm going to do a rough plan over the next couple of weeks and will bring it to my next appointment...not sure how it will be received but sure I'll bring it anyway. I'm the same as you wrt epidural ACS, I like the idea of being able to be mobile during labour and to go straight for shower, etc afterwards but then who knows how I'll cope with contractions! I hope babs turns for you soon btw.

Daisy Day, hope you're not blue anymore and have managed to take it easy and rest up a bit? :action32 Fair play, it sounds like you're super organised. I hope to pack my bags this weekend.

Miself, I'm the same wrt bf! I'll give it a go but if it doesn't workout, so be it. Its great to be reaching the mat leave stage isn't it? What date are you due?

SMMC4, sorry to hear of your ms, hopefully it eases soon.

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend everyone :)

MrsMcNow sorry to hear you have been suffering with your hands and feet. I don't suppose you have any tips for coping with the hands? I've had carpal tunnel for about 10 weeks and my hands have been getting more and more swollen each week to the point that I'm now taking paracetamol a couple of times a day for them. I've tried a splint, heat, cold, staying hydrated, acupuncture.... But it's still getting worse. Was awake most of the night with awful cramps in my left hand. So frustrating!

mrsmcnow and ACS sorry to hear you are suffering, roll on due date and feeling better.

some people can be so silly with their comments about what way we choose to feed our children, i had a male midwife pass a very blunt comment to me when i was pg on DD about. i felt like saying well u will never have to do it so dont judge me. O:| i found in the hospital when u go in to actually have the baby they only asked weather bottle or breast and there was no more said about it if u choose the bottle.

Ladyp wont be long now. will be on the look out for ur text :o)ll

i had a scan at 32 weeks too and baby was measuring 3lbs. i was delighted but now im starting to panic its small. i dont think they are very accurate anyway so will try not to worry too much.

Morning, hope everyone had a good weekend.

just wondering if anyone who has had the strep b test can tell me if it was through a urine test or was it an internal swab? think im due to get it today at my clinic app & would like to know what form it will take.

I had a strange feeling last night. was lying in bed trying to settle on one side or the other and I got these little jabs in my left side. When I put my hand to my side i felt little bumps - could it had been hands? It was on my side so there was no bump there as such just skin. I'm pretty sure i didnt imagine it. I have had plenty of movement but nothing like this.

I dont have the pain of carpel tunnell now i just have severe swelling of the hands and feet they are stiff from all the fluid and nothing seems to help and i do try an stay off my feet as much as possible. Hi girls,
I hope you all had lovely weekends. My hubby took me away for our last "me and him" weekend but it was kinda ruined by my inability to sleep yet again. Had to watch dvds on the computer til 6:30am and I finally got to snooze for about 2 hours then so wasn't in the best of form the following day. Poor hubby :o(
All better now though because I'm on my second last week at work!! After that only 3 more weeks til baby is due. Oh it's so exciting :hyper:

Girls that hand and feet swelling and carpel tunnel sounds terribly painful. Is there anything that can be done about it? What if you wrapped cold compresses around your hands and feet or soaked them in cold water? It might give some bit of relief.

Re the birth plan - we did a generic one up (i.e. copied it off the internet!) and took it to the hospital to run by the consultant. So first off we met with the mid-wife and showed it to her and she dismissed half of it and then we showed it to the consultant and he was totally fine with all of it! For example I had written down that I would prefer to tear rather than get an episiotomy (sp?) and the midwife was very much saying that it's much better to get an epi whereas the consultant was saying no way, that'd be a last resort kinda thing! It's so confusing - you'd think the staff in the hospital would get their approaches straight? Bit of a worry really.

BigSurprise I forgot to mention in the last post that I get these little jabs all the time when I'm lying on my left side. It feels very weird but have no idea what it is either. I presume a little foot or hand but it feels like someone is running up and down inside me just on that side. :o0
