22 weeks pregnant and almost fainted this morning

22 weeks pregnant and almost fainted this morning

Postby libramoon » Thu Apr 26, 2022 9:08 am

Hi girls

I'll be 22 weeks on Saturday but I had a bit of an episode this morning.

I got up early and was rushing around the house up and down the stairs getting ready for work. Then I drove to work which took me 40 mins (had to stop for petrol on the way). It was a bit of a stressful drive as traffic was bad and I had someone pull out in front of me on a roundabout which meant I had to stop so that sent my heart a bit crossways. When I go to work I had to climb one flight of stairs as office is on the 1st floor. By the time I got to my desk I could feel my legs starting to go. I sat down but my head was swimming and my heart was racing. I felt the blood drain from my hands so I put my head between my legs to try and settle things. It took a few minutes but eventually everything came back to normal. It was a bit scary though as I've never had anything like this happen before. I guess I just want reasurance that its a normal part of pregnancy and I don't need to worry about it other than maybe taking things easy!

This happened to me once too - not sure what stage i was at but certainly around 20 weeks. It was a sunday morning and i had been out doing some stuff for my mum, came home and started making breakfast (I had eaten earlier but something very small) and doing a few other bits and pieces at the same time and all of a sudden i came over all faint. It really gave me a fright but once I sat down and ate something i was perfectly fine.

Had you eaten anything before leaving the house?

Do you know what your blood pressure is like? If it went really low it might have caused the faint feeling. I would also see that your Hb count is not too low. It can be connected to pregnancy of course, but because everybody is different I woudl mention it at the next appointment so that they can check few things out. If you haven't eaten anything a dip in your blood sugars could be another explanation.

BigSurprise, I had breakfast this morning yeah. I got one of the girls to get me a croissant and a sugary cup of tea when it passed so I feel fine now. It definitely is scary!

TheOracle, I've an appointment next Monday with my GP so I'll mention it to her then. Was talking to another girl in the office and her sister used to get them a lot when she was pregnant. She said it was something to do with BP alright.

Thanks for the feedback girls :thnk . I hope I don't get another one as I wouldn't like to have to deal with them coming on all-of-a-sudden like that ;o(

At about 22/23 weeks I started throwing up again after being free of morning sickness for 12 weeks. I figured out that it was the mornings that I was rushing around that I was getting sick. So I started getting up a bit earlier and it's made all the difference.

I get this all the time, I'm 21 weeks now and I've had to stop going to the morning meetings at work where we walk the floor and talk about parts, I just cant stand for long in the mornings.

totally normal unfortunately. i've never fainted in my life but on my last pregnancy i was on the luas (standing, stupidly refused a seat as didn't think i need it!) and all of a sudden i couldn't see and thought i was going to collapse. DH was right beside me and i couldn't even see him to let him know. passed after about 30 secs but gave me a fright. doc said it's totally normal in pregnancy, a scary side effect! i started driving in after that and have driven since i found our i was pregnant this time.

Wait until the nose bleeds start!

I never fainted in pregnancy, but a friend of mine who is pregnant on her 2nd, fainted several times on this pregnancy but not on her first! She hit her head a few times when fainting, but now she's 6 months it's stopped thank God!

My thing was nose bleeds. Have tissues ready at ALL times. From 30 weeks on my nose turned into a tap. Tops ruined, the lot! Pregnancy does strange things to us! Take it easy, if you are feeling faint, it just means the baby is getting the extra blood so you are suffering. DO take it easy xx

Totally normal alright. It's to do with blood flow to your brain. We're always on about it in pregnancy yoga. SLOW DOWN!!! (though I've been told to do that and feel like saying "bog off, I'm pregnant, not sick")

Oh, and I've had 2 nosebleeds so far, started about 18 weeks, hopefully they don't get much worse.

Happened me 3 times between week 10 and 20. Said it to Gp and consultant and both said nothing to worry about.

im 17 weeks and yhis has happened me a few times. Its called postural hypotension its where your bp drops when you stand up suddenly. so get your gp to check bp sitting and standing to see if there is a deficit. Apparently there is not much you can do about it just take it easy and try not let yourself get dehydrated. gp said to me hopefully it'll pass bt the 3rd trimester.

Thanks for the replies girls. Working from home today so I can take it easy and have antinatal appointment on Monday so will ask the nurse to check BP as you suggested Octoberbaby2010. Good to hear its normal but hope it won't happen again!

Sorry to hear about the nose bleeds too. That doesn't sound nice!

God you're flying along now libramoon! Yeah I collapsed in a heap all the time on both pregnancies and had a lot of nose bleeds on this one. Blood pressure is basically my problem, I'm one of those people who always feels faint getting out of baths and at Mass. Consultant told me to eat well and be healthy....thats about all I could do! I also made sure to stay well hydrated. Another part of my little fun batch of symtoms of low blood pressure were my ears going fuzzy which drove me mental.

Happened to me a lot during the middle of my pregnancy, consultant said it was caused from low blood pressure. I found doing things slowly helped, don't be racing up stairs and standing up from sitting quickly.
Hope your feeling better.

Well I had another episode this morning but this time I passed out and when I woke up I'd puked all over myself. Luckily it happened after I'd parked the car at work! When to doc and BP is fine and mine and baby's HB was fine. Pee was fine also. She said baby might be sitting on a blood vessel but if it keeps happening I'm to go back. I think if it happens once more I'll go back and see if anything shows in blood although I am on iron supplements. It seems to happen if I'm rushing or stressed about anything (had a presentation to do this morning so was chasing my tail). Not allowed drive now for a while. Have to say it was scary as I've never passed out before.
