Advice 9months BEFORE ttc

Re: Advice 9months BEFORE ttc

Postby Babydreamer » Fri Jan 21, 2022 10:22 am

Hi Girls,

I am also off the pill but only just, will have to wait till I get AF to start to calculate my cycle etc. Im also taking folic acid, the pack is nearly finished so got preconception vitamins in boots which have the 400 mg of folic acid in them aswell....got smear done last year and all was clear :) :hyper:

But I have noticed since tuesday of this week that I am getting really crampy cramps... and Im sorry TMI!! But like clockwork each morning I have had diarrohea, so embarrassing as I am sure the girls I work with I wondering what is going on. :eek

My place is a bit like a maternity ward! So many bumps its unreal and I do catch managers glancing at me every so often as they presume because I got married in September that I am next to go!! Has anyone else experienced this coming off the pill? I know that it is a sign of pregnancy but we have been careful up to now because of me only being off it etc etc....

would love to know if this is just a hormonal thing or if I should keep an eye and see if it persists over the next few days. Have not been boozing, or eating any spicy foods, just normal bland stuff..... any advise would be much appreciated!

And apart from that, I cannot wait to get a BFP, hoping that we can get to work :) ha ha this weekend!! :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll

Hi girls, very tentatively venturing back into the TTC forum after 2 years! We are going to TTC this year, hopefully before the summer so I have a lot to do before then! Took 5 months ttc DD. I never got a smear after DD :-8 so have to get that done and get on the folic acid.
RE. rubella-when I got bloods done at dating scan on DD they found I had very low immunity so i had to be extra careful about contact with people-typically I work in a school and there was an outbreak at the time nationally! i got the booster when I went for my post natal check up at 6 weeks but i will be checking this out again-my sister is a nurse and she had to get the booster twice as it didn't take the first time!
They also checked my immunity to varricella (chickenpox) at the time so not sure if this should be checked before hand too?

Also worth knowing in advance what blood type you are in case you are Rh negative-it's nothing too major but good to be aware of in case of bad bumps/falls when pregnant as you need to get checked out. I was surprised how many people didn't know what blood type they were!

myself and h2b had a big heart to heart last night and we've decided that we're gonna have 3 months to enjoy being newly weds with lazy days and nights out with firends and then in november start a family.

is it too soon to take folic acid? we don't be ttc until late october :babydust:

I don't think so realta! Why don't ya start taking boots, skin hair & nails ? That has the recommended daily dose of folic acid plus it will make your hair & nails super fabulous for your big day! Win win!! That's what I did, took the skin hair & nails a year prior to getting married & continued then up until I got pregnant - congrats by the way x

sparkly winterbride- are you getting married this winter or are you a newly wed now?

it is very exciting.

never thought i'd see myself type this but i'd give up the wedding right now if it would guarantee a healthy pregnancy when we decide to start trying.

i think the whole baby thing is much more exciting than wedding stuff- as much as i can't wait for the big day :heartbeat:

Welcome to the forum :o)ll

When we started ttc first i too was terrified of the birth, but we both wanted a baby so much, by the time we got down to business i actually forgot about all the pain i will have to go through. I don't know, i think once a woman finds out she's pregnant the fear just goes away. That was the case with me anyway and i'd say a lot of women would agree with me on this.
Of course you can prepare yourself for the birth. Visit the ante-natal classes that they offer you in the maternity hospitals. You will learn a lot there and they give you great tips and stuff. I also did ante-natal aqua aerobic, which kept me fit, but in a gentle way if you know what i mean.
Our DD is nearly 4 and we are both ready for number 2 :hyper: I'd say we will start fairly soon now again, can't wait :o)ll

hi girls. This seems the appropriate place to post this, and hopefully it will help some people or better, stop a problem before it begins.

I am writing about folic acid supplementation, which we all should take in the months preceeding TTC and during pregnancy also.

In my case, my serum vitamin B12 levels were checked thankfully, over 360, but within a year my B12 they were down to 80! Most people don't realise how important it is. I know I didn't.

Taking folic acid (folate) can mask any symthoms of B12 deficiency, however, neurological damage is possible .. and it possible, without going into details, that is what happened in my case and why I'm on to ask this:

If you are taking folic acid and have not had your B12 levels checked, please ask for this at your next blood testing. Any problems and your Doc will be able to advise you more.

Best of luck with TTCing :babydust:

Hi girls!
Thanks for all the advice for planning ahead with ttc.
Hoping to start ttc after Christmas! Don't feel quite ready yet...though they say there is never a perfect time!
Am going to have check-up with the doctor tomorrow, blood test to check immunization levels for rubella etc....and am just going to dig out the letter from my last smear test and see whether I need to have that done too before Christmas!
As I'm going to be 33 in April I feel I need to get started! But at the same time we are building a house and life is pretty hectic........hardly feel I can look after myself - never mind a little one as well! :-8
Anybody else feel the same way?!

deear alll....
jsut wanted to come on and say, if you start taking folic acid on its own, bear in mind that it works best in conjuction with other vitamins.... and actually you should be taking at a minimum b12 with it also.

It occurred to me that I basically ran out of b12, dodgy stuff, and have to have injections now as it got so bad, but taking the folic acid hid the fact for too long ...

so take a good multivitamin instead of folic acid on its own

Angel_Dust wrote:I wouldn't think so Delphinium, I can't see how being on the Pill would affect the test results but I'm a total novice to this. I got called back for a repeat smear so due that in October and plan on coming off the pill then. Any of you ladies get called back at all?

Its so great to read other people have the same worries I do about TTC. When talking to friends, they seem to just "know" when they are ready to have a baby. The whole thing just sends me into a tizzy if I'm being totally honest. Its such a huge responsibility! I'm going through a "reading" phase at the moment....reading pregnancy books + trying to get to grips with it all! My husband thinks it can be "overplanned" but I don't know...I'm so clueless about it all I feel going into it blind would freak me out entirely!

One other thing to do ladies, don't think it was mentioned here - take a trip to the dentist! Apparently, your gums can bleed as side effect in early pregnancy and can exasperate any existing problems with your teeth.

angel dust i just seen ur post and realised that me and u are on the same wavelength at the moment, hence why im even reading this thread.

oppps just realised that was posted well over a year ago and that u now have a baba. congrats. just when i read your post it was exactly what im going theu at the mo.

Went to the doctor today after seeing the posts bout rubella etc and she was AMAZING. She took loads of blood for different tests (half of which I dont remember now) and she's sending me for an ultrasound to determine once and for all if I have pcos.
