Advice 9months BEFORE ttc

Re: Advice 9months BEFORE ttc

Hi Delphinium and Suddlums,

I started taking folic acid in June after the wedding. Went to my GP last month when we decided to TTC. She did take bloods for rubella immunity, iron levels, diabetes, chlosterol, thyroid... just a general once over. She say that if your rubella immunity is gone then you would need a booster and in that case you couldnt get pg for 3 months.

It only cost the price of a GP visit but sooooo glad I went!

If you have the €50, go as soon as you can, it was worth it for all the info she gave me :)

Thanks for that MrsDr, all makes sense. Hoping to make a visit to the GP in the next week or so. Really hadn't a clue where one even starts, but a general health check does make a lot of sense. I suppose at least I'm on the folic with a couple of months already so that's a good start. Would I need to be off the pill before having all those tests though?

I wouldn't think so Delphinium, I can't see how being on the Pill would affect the test results but I'm a total novice to this. I got called back for a repeat smear so due that in October and plan on coming off the pill then. Any of you ladies get called back at all?

Its so great to read other people have the same worries I do about TTC. When talking to friends, they seem to just "know" when they are ready to have a baby. The whole thing just sends me into a tizzy if I'm being totally honest. Its such a huge responsibility! I'm going through a "reading" phase at the moment....reading pregnancy books + trying to get to grips with it all! My husband thinks it can be "overplanned" but I don't know...I'm so clueless about it all I feel going into it blind would freak me out entirely!

One other thing to do ladies, don't think it was mentioned here - take a trip to the dentist! Apparently, your gums can bleed as side effect in early pregnancy and can exasperate any existing problems with your teeth.

Angeldust, so in the same position. My SIL lent me ttc books and I have them hidden in the back of the wardrobe...... I don't want DH to see them or he'll thing I'm obsessed and /or jump me because he thinks I'm ready!! He's mad for kids and tbh while I do want kids I'm still getting my head around it.

Haha, kindred spirits! Mine are in my locker and when DH is on nights, I will have a good read of them! Glad its not just me! Although, I haven't read too far into the fertility stuff. I am still a little head in the clouds about that with the thinking "ah, it'll be grand". Will see if it just "happens" after a few months of being off the pill and if it doesn't - I'll look into it more. I found the more reading I did on it, the more worried I'd get about it...so doing a bit of a Joey "book in the freezer" job! ;o)

I am a little taken aback I have to admit by my husbands take on TTC! When we got married first, he was shockin' broody and I wanted to wait. Now we are actually seriously talking about it, I think he is a bit worried about it all and the tables have almost turned a bit? He still wants a family but I think the more it moves from the "one day please God" to "maybe we'll start trying" - I find he is really apprehensive and nervous about it.

No girls, don't need to be off the pill to get tests, I wasnt anyway.

My friend gave me a few books and DH wasnt impressed. He is of the opinion we should just "not try to try" but just have fun and see what happens!
Angel_dust my DH also thinks things could get overplanned. Even sat me down and gave me peep talk on how he doesnt want me to be disappointed if Im not pg this month!

I've heard people who REALLY REALLY want a baby say, that when you see that +ve result you will alway be scared!

Know what you mean snuddlums! It'll be so strange coming off the Pill but so lovely too. Its such a big decision to make but I'm really starting to get my head around it now...we've so much to look forward to girls! (Please God, all going well!) :lvs

Good to know that everyone feels the same and is doing the same silly things! As another poster said, I know full well that DH will think I am overthinking and overplanning if he sees the ttc books and would very much be of the attitude of letting it happen. I'll maybe just finish the strip I'm on now. The only thing we have discussed as regards planning is maybe letting my cycles settle down first using condoms or whatever so I know that I'm ovulating and he agrees at least that this is probably sensible. Part of me is a bit of a control freak and I want to know I'm TTC not for it just to surprise me... if that makes sense! I know it mightn't be as easy as all that but.......

Girls, it is sooo strange. We were also going to go with the condoms approach but just thought feck it. One of my friends as been known to say "you dont choose when a baby comes... they do"! :stork:

Hopefully over the next 12 months we have lots of good news :babydust: :babydust: :babydust: :babydust: :babydust:

It really is. That's the thing that is taking me the most getting used to...like an "accident" you just deal with it...but the conscious decision of starting a family is a very weird feeling!

We are doing the condom approach though until after Christmas, please God, I'll get the all clear on my smear test but I don't want to be TTC over Christmas with all the boozing etc...use Jan then to lose the extra lbs + then please God, be fighting fit in Feb for baby dancing! :babydust:

Hi Girls,
Im so glad i found this forum! we have just decided to start ttc in the new year and its so hard being so excited about it and not really being able to tell anyone, cos its not like there is anything concrete to tell yet!!
Ive just come off my pill this month, AF is due nxt week so we shall see if everything is back in working order as I was on pill for about 12 years...When we started talking about it, DH was worried about folic acid situation- so I started taking confolic right away which is a month ago now. it says you can take for 14 weeks pre conception.
What is the general opinion on exercise? I go gym few times a week, aerobic classes/weights etc. Can you keep up with all that when in early stages of preg? would love to hear your opinions. x
