Advice 9months BEFORE ttc

Re: Advice 9months BEFORE ttc

as far as i know if your body is used to exercise you can keep doing what your doing but excessive exercise isn't recommended- like an intense circuit class- but to be honest this is probably because you're supposed to be more tired in the first few weeks
:babydust: to you all

we're not trying yet, we've just under 8 months until the wedding- hence why the name of the thread caught my eye!

Hey starbar, I've read your usual exercise routine is fine. I'm about the same as you, gym a couple of times a week...have put off TTC until the New Year also, this will be the last boozy Christmas! :)

I agree on the not being able be excited with anyone as theres nothing happening really to report....so this forum is pretty great!

Did anyone buy "Taking charge of your fertility" and if so does it make a difference which version you buy. There seems to be a few of them (or maybe they are just different covers?!). Getting married in March and hoping to start TTC straight away. On folic acid a couple of weeks and will sort out a GP visit shortly. I'm 33 and still don't feel grown up enough for all this!

Hi Ladies,

I'm not getting married for ages yet but have been thinking of coming off the pill soon. We have talked about starting a family straight after we are married but the conversation always ends with a 'sure we will wait and see what happens nearer to the time' comment. I have been on the pill for nearly 12 years and would like to take a break from it. I'm on a progesterone only pill so haven't had a period in years. I feel like I need to give my body a chance to return to normal working order for a while IYKWIM- at the same time, I would prefer not to get pg before the wedding - any advice?

Am thinking of getting that fertility book and going the au naturelle approach (maybe with condoms as I'm a control freak!!) .

I came off the pill in sept after being on it for near 7 years so i would say if you and your h2b are happy to use condoms,i would come off the pill.In my case it took a few cycles for body to return to normal,im on 4th cycle and id say this the 1st proper one.It be good to get to know your body also.Best of luck with it

The book tcoyf is very good... really helps with the natural approach and also is great for understanding your own cycle. I have started charting and find it great... at this stage can work out when period is coming... usually know day before and know when ovulating which will be great for ttc in next few mths...

anyone any thoughts on the rubella vaccine?
If immunity is low, should the vaccine be got again?? I know they recommend it, but with a wait of 3mths and possibly another test before ttc...

in relation to the rubella vaccine when i was getting blood tests done in the gp to check my hormone levels (have long cycles) the gp got my immunity checked and it came back fine.

i'm pretty sure if you go to your gp for a checkup before ttc they''ll make sure you're good to go!

i had my hormone levels checked, a smear test and rubella immunity checked. also was referred to gynaecologist for a separate issue. I was told if i'm not pregnant within 8 months of trying that i should come back to her. Fingers and toes crossed it happens easily for us :babydust:

Thanks Realta..
Mine came back low, so I'm wondering if i should get the vaccine again and wait another 3mths or so. For some people, the vaccine does not take, so it could happen i may be one of them...

I'm on the road now after coming off the pill in November but I still haven't got bloods done. What's been your experience of the Rubella test? Did many of you have to get a booster shot? My GP was of the opinion that it is usually OK.

Also another good piece of advice I got from a friend who's a new mum was to go to the dentist before you TTC. You shouldn't have an X-ray if you are pregnant and mercury fillings would also be a no-no. Must start making a few appointments! Anyone recommend a dentist in the Lucan area??

Thanks for all the wise words ladies. I've decided to come off it once I finish my pack so it will be down to the chemist for ST's and Durex :o0 :o0. I hope there won't be any surprises between now and the wedding!! I've talked it through with H2B and we will just have to be extra careful.

Does anyone know the best place to get that book? I'd prefer to order online for privacy reasons - Amazon perhaps?

Also, whats the story with the Rubella vaccine? I had Rubella when I was small and I think then I got the MMR shot when I was in sixth class. Do need to see my doc? Or should I only do this when I'm actively TTC?
Thanks,
SWB :thnk

Hey ladies,

TCOYF - you can get it from Amazon, re the rubella, even if you got the MMR, your immunity can wear off so you can ask your doc for a blood test to check it out. If it comes back that you do need a booster shot, it will take 3 months for it to be active....so if you make the decision that you are going to get checked for it, factor in the 3 months for it to activate?

Although, the vast number of "real" pregnant ladies I've asked (as opposed to wollies) have never heard of MMR wearing off....but the above is what the "books" say! Personally, I didn't need the booster!

Also - 100% agree with the dentist visits, I finished mine there in November...expensive little buggers but well worth it as your gums get super super sensitive during pregnancy (so I'm lead to believe) so any teeth problems are exasperated whilst pregnant apparently. Dentist I went to in Lucan Delphinium is Primacare, its up by the Penny Hill...Ballyowen Medical Centre. Ask for Anna, she's a really lovely Polish lady who is just so, so gentle. She pulled my wisdom tooth (ouch) but I was grand after it! Best of Luck xx

sparkly winterbride we've been putting our faith in Durex for almost 2 years and so far so good! (touch wood!) :o0

as long as we make it to the end of april it'll be fine, Would only be 3 months pregnant at the wedding and that wouldn't show but we're hoping to wait until after the wedding. its mad to think that at the end of this year we will hopefully be celebrating very tamely! :babydust:

Hello girls if it's ok I may join u here :wv myself and DH got married a year and a half ago and have decided to TTC. I went off my pill in November and had my first real period 28 days after my last pill period... Went to the gp to get a smear which has come back irregular gp says stop TTC for six months and come back then for another smear. We decided this was too long to wait and I'm concerned re the whole ting so have booked into a gyne in the beacon I attended to before for suspected endometriosis. Hoping all will be ok and in the meantime I'm taking the pregacare preconception vits think that the name anyway, I was looking at the back of the pack and compared them to the satogen ones and they seem to have more in them si the pharmacist reckoned they wud be better. Giving my DH the mens equivalent :xxx not that he reckons he needs them!! So I'm hoping to get a BFP sooner rather than later and hoping the endrometrosis doesn't slow things up for us, would enjoy staying in contact with you other girlies who are in this learning curve stage!! Oh iv also bought a box of ovulation tests which I'm dong every day, apparently the best time is late afternoon evening time and no wee wee for four hours before! I must admit my bladder at the best of times struggles for three hours!! Trying to start taking my tempeture too but a bit of an amateur at this whole thing!!! What is everyone else doing?? Anyway baby dust to all when the time comes u wish for
