Run, TTCer, Run: Weightloss/Fitness thread

Run, TTCer, Run: Weightloss/Fitness thread

Postby littlesugarloaf » Wed Mar 28, 2022 3:25 pm

Hey all, based on chat over on the "2ww thread - six months or more" there seems to be a few of us that are inspired by the good weather into getting fit and losing a few pounds. And for those TTCing it's always recommended anyway.

As the previous weightloss thread hadn't been updated since last year, I thought it time for a new one. Anyone else up for it? (and this isn't a long-termer or at-least-six-month thread - open to anyone at all who's TTC and trying to lose a few pounds). And Nothing like sunny weather to get you thinking of salads. So maybe we could have some dieting recipes with a TTC twist to them - recipes with leafy greens or walnuts and almonds (for those of us with low progesterone) or other ideas.

I'll get the ball rolling - I need to lose a stone and there's no ifs or buts about it. Ideally, I'd love to lose a stone and a half but if I lose a stone I'll be thrilled. I've totally stopped exercising since about October of last year - sheer laziness, only reason for it. I used to run and plan on running again and have just bought "Run, Fat B*tch, Run" as a way of motivating myself. We're lucky to have great shower facilities in work so the plan is to reactivate my running app and get started by running on my lunch break again. But as my old running stuff doesn't fit anymore :o( a trip to Penneys for some shiny new gear is necessary.

Realistically the dieting probably won't really kick off until after Easter (d@mn you Hot Cross Buns!) but need to seriously start cutting back and getting into a good healthy eating plan. I carry most of my weight around my middle so will measure tonight and use my waist as a guide, as well as the scales.

So I'm Littlesugarloaf and I plan on being able to run again and losing 14lbs in the next two months! And have a waist measurement not a million miles away from what I had on my wedding day :)

Whoo I am in like flynn!!

I'm at the very upper level of my healthy BMI and need to lose at least a stone (more really but I'll start with that!)

Got married 9 months ago & i had reached my goal weight in WW & gotten my gold card but I actually was planning on losing more. Hmm didnt happen & I've put on a stone since then (bad next). It's a combination on lazyiness & comfort eating. I was great for the excercise (boot camp & running) till about october & I've been fairly sporadic since. The comfort eating is pretty closely related to the difficulties Im having concieving but i really need to stop this as its making me feel really down.

My plan is to get back running (starting tonight) and ill go back to bootcamp in may. on the food front Im back counting points & Im going to cut back on carbs. Big problem with my is portion size so need to cut this right back.

My name is next & Im going to drop a stone in 8 weeks & be a lean mean TTC machine!

Next, am really getting a spooky vibe now. Not only am I a lapsed WW Gold member, I'm also an ex-bootcamper and runner. Spooky!

What WW and running apps are you using? I have the Get Running app which is a 0 to 5k app that is great because you can play your own music or podcasts (like Roisin Ingle was saying two weeks ago, I find it easier to run to words than music). And I have the iWatcher app for WW.

Right, walnut and feta salad with some kind of oily fish for dinner tonight - healthy AND TTC-friendly!

he he - totally spooky, hopefully the coincidences will coninue & we will both get pregnant the same month too!

For points I have the IWATCHER app too & the NIKE + one for running(its tracks your route & give you distance & time stats) i find it great & you can listen to what ever you have on the iphone or the radio. Must sort a few new running playlists actually. I'm hoping running will get the old endorphins running as I've been a bit down recently which isn't like me normally.

Dinner tonight will be a teriki salmon stir fry, yum!

I'm running,(slowly) building up each week. I'm going to run the ladies mini marathon, anyone want to join me? i'm following the training plan on runrepublic.ie

Yay! Count me in... I've started the 'couch25k' and I'm heading into week four (I skipped week 1). I haven't lost a single pound yet but to be fair I've been eating all round me :eek I've just had a really rough few months with 2 mc and I've been comfort eating non-stop. Realistically I'm not TTC until June so I'd love to get fit, healthy and a lil bit skinnier before then.

My plan: keep up the fitness for the next couple of weeks and then the diet starts in ernest after the choccie marathon at Easter! Best of luck LSL, Next & Happieout xxx

Route66 & Happieout, sounds like you've both already made a good start. I am really thinking about the mini-marathon but I'd have to get over my phobia of crowds (I get panic attacks if the train gets too busy - am such a wuss). But it's a good date to aim for, even if I don't actually enter.

I'm a comfort eater too - I've put on 7lbs in the past six weeks that my mum has been in hospital! So hopefully those 7 will fall off as quickly as they went on. I was living on biscuits and bars and sandwiches. But them days are over. Realistically Sunday will be the first day I'm able to get out for a run as am at hospital tonight, and I'm always wrecked on Friday evenings. Saturday is hairdresser, visiting a friend, then hospital and then out with himself, so Sunday I will haul my sorry a$$ around the neighbourhood.

Next, am definitely going to download that Nike app. The "Run, Fat B*tch, Run" book is fantastic - my new catchphrase is "Hard is the new black". Running is hard but that's why it works!

Welcome to the newbies & best of luck! sounds like you both have a plan in place.

happie out - I find the mini marathon very busy but hoping to sign up to a few of the summer race series in the Phenix park http://dublinmarathon.ie/race_series.php

did them all in 2010 & then SFA in 2011 (too busy planning my wedding).

well ate really healthily yesterday & was well within my ww points & did a 4.5k run . I was wrecked doing it though & it took for ever (36 mins). will work up to a 5 k in 30 & then move on the distance. It was nice running in the sun though.

I'll join in!

Joined slimming world a couple of weeks ago - that's going well so far.

But this week I need to get out doing more. Might re-start the C25K again this week.
And I think I need to do my weekly meal plan on a Saturday/Sunday before i do the shopping.

Thats the plan so we'll see how it goes!

Ok guys - I'm in for sure.
The girls over in 6 months + know this - but as a result of PCOS (at least partly), I'm about 1.5 to 2 stone overweight. On tuesday my consultant told me she won't prescribe Clomid until I get my BMI down. I'm back to her in 8 weeks so need to shift AT LEAST a stone by then.
Problem with PCOS is that sugars are essentially incorrectly broken down and used by the body and so are lethal. She has told me I am to FULLY EXCLUDE sugar from my diet. This means all the obvious no's as well as no fruit, no tinned sauces, no vegetables that are any colour other than green, no salad dressings, no cereals other than porridge, no yogurt other than plain natural - the list goes on...I'm also to cut RIGHT back on carbs and disallow any refined carbs. Essentially I can have a measly piece of potato or brown rice - that's it. It's gonna be really hard for me so will be so grateful of the support and especially of any recipes you girls might have that fit the bill :-8

As for exercise, I'll be out at LEAST five nights a week doing a combo of power walking and running and am absolutely determined to be presribed Clomid on May 22nd (otherwise known henceforth as 'C-Day')

As for apps, I use myfitnesspal (both online and the app for tracking food and the calories burned through exercise. If anyone else uses it and wants to add me my username on it is aisidow.
I use runkeeper.com for the running app - am also open to adding people to my Street Team on runkeeper - great for motivation. However, my runkeeper account is in my real name so pm me anyone else who uses it and we'll get motivating each other.

Girls - this HAS to happen for me. It could be my only hope so i have no choice.
I'm luckyladee and I'm doing this for my baby!!

Hey girls,

I ate & drank all round me at the weekend but I did some exercise too, so not feeling too bad. I also plan on being really good this week Next, having a bold Easter weekend and then trying my best to be really good after that. I aim to loose 1/2stone by June and to get reasonably fit. Easier said than done but here's hoping! Good luck to all x

Well so far (since tuesday) I've completely stuck to it - 100%. Difficult but I'm really determined.
In the last two weeks (started on March 19th) - I've done a minimum of 4km every day except one. I missed fri 23rd unavoidably.
So I'm delighted with myself so far - 7 more weeks to go!

How's everybody else doing?

I was very well behaved this weekend.

Saturday was a challenge, it was the first day of the diet that I've been home for the whole day. Not being able to grab what i wanted and when nearly broke me. But I powered through and had a busy Sunday so thankfully it was a more structured day!

I know I was mean to start exercising last week, but I will this week!

Again no alcohol is key for me. Empty kcal that only lead to comfort eating!
