Fools Guide to TTC

Re: Fools Guide to TTC

Postby markel » Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:47 pm

Another first timer - and a clueless one at that!!

I'm finishing pill this week - how long should we wait before ttc? We were hoping after xmas - is that too soon?

What else do I need to do? Do I need to go to doc for blood tests etc - saw post here about chickenpox/rubella?

How long should we stay away from drink before hand?

Sorry for all the questions - like I said - clueless :eek

Hi girls,
I'm so glad this thread was started! Have ordered tcoyf and can't wait to get reading. I feel I'm kinda clueless about the whole thing. Me and DH are going to start ttc in and around March. We're doing one last holiday and then fingers crossed it'll all going swimmingly (oh lord no pun intended there).
I've loads of questions, I'm going to the doc this week to get my last script for the patch. should I be asking her for blood tests for anything in particular, should i start taking vitamins and folic acid?? my iron levels were a little low the last time i gave blood could this be an issue????
also I feel i'm on my own saying its all bloody scary!! i love children but tbh i've never changed a nappy!! it's all very new and exciting and eeeeeeeeeeeek :)

Just read through from page 1-7 and took me a while but I'm well informed now :) Thanks so much! It's a great thread!
I have one more question:
I know it's good to DTD on day 8, day 10, day 12, 13 and 15 BUT
for the rest of the month, how often is good to keep sperm healthy? Would it be roughly about twice a week would you think? and then more regularly nearer ovulation time?

assuming sperm quality etc is normal the SME Plan is a good yardstick. Regular intercourse thru-out ur cycle will increase chances of conceiving.

Evry 2nd day from day 6 up to fertile window - then everyday for the 5 or so days approaching ovulation until cm dries up is recommended.

hi girls...this is a great thread...but i am still dumb! my cycle was always irregular and all over the place so i have decided to start monitoring it as we have decided to ttc in the next few months. i obviously never paid much attention in biology class and know nothing about all the goings on with the whole cycle....prob should know about my own body but...i dont!

anyhow...as for knowing how long your cycle is...do you count from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period and that gives you length of your cycle? ( e.g...if i got my af on dec 23rd
and again on jan 19th...does that mean my cycle is a 28 day cycle?) i know i should know something as simple as this and i have a lot to learn over the next while!!

just seems to be so much to it...how the hell do so many people get caught out with unplanned pregnancies and people trying and hoping for a little baby seems to take forever with all these temping methods and carts and checking cm and what not!

hi there, you count day 1 of your af as cycle day 1 up to the start of your next period. so your cycle above was 28 days. :babydust:
