Calling all Twin Mammies???

Re: Calling all Twin Mammies???

Girls my sister has just found out she's pregnant with twins. I'm super dooper excited, if a bit shocked! She thought she was 9 weeks but is measuring 6 with two heartbeats visible. She had bleeding two weeks ago and went for early scan but scanner couldn't really see anything either way but if she's only 6 weeks then it would have been way too early. Did anyone have something similar re measurements? I said to her maybe she ovulated late but symptoms started earlier than usual because it is twins so therefore she found out she was pg earlier than she normally would have?? Am I talking through my hat? Fingers crossed it works out, it's so exciting. These will be babies number 3 and 4 for them! This thing would let me do bouncy men but I would put in lots if I could.

Blackbird that's so exciting :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll (there I did a few bouncy men for you :o0 ) I've no idea about the dating thing tho sorry maybe if they are id twins they might measure smaller on dates - Gemini???

Mine are fraternal so are the same as two single babies born at the same time i.e. they had their own sac and placenta. I didn't find out until 12 weeks and they measured right for their dates. I was really sure of my dates tho.... no of these info is of any help so I’ll shut up now :o0

There's a twin mum's to be tread on P&G if she's interested in joining there seems to be a good few on there so she might find it helpful. She might like to join IMBA who'll give her loads of info too and of course if we can be any help ask away.

Hi Blackbird and congrats to your sister - super exciting!
With me I had a scan at 6 wks and they saw 2 sacs and fetal poles - too early for me then to see heartbeas. Saw the heartbeats at 8 wks (best feeling ever!!) - as I knew my dates exactly - they were always measuring bang on.

Have a few bouncy men from me too :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll

Hi Blackbird, that's so exciting for your sister and your family, I can add a few bouncy men too lol :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll

I can't really help with the dates as mine were ivf twins so was 100% sure of my dates but I did have a lot of bleeding in the first 14 weeks of my pregnancy and was told its very common in twin pregnancies. I had a scan at almost 7 weeks, that's when I found out. Mine are fraternal boy/girl twins so separate sacs/placenta etc. Its great that they heard two heartbeats that's the main thing I would say. Actually now I remember my scans always measured a few days behind even though I obviously knew my dates exactly.

She should have a look at the IMBA website as 3littlemen suggested, they also have a good facebook page.
best of luck to her :o)ll

Thanks girls. It's so exciting. I've told her about forums but I think she can't take too much in yet, which is totally understandable. She also wants to get the next scan done before she can relax a little. It's such good news. I know it's going to be hard work but so worth it I'm sure. I may be back with questions on her behalf! Oh I think they are fraternal by the way.

I had a big post written and pressed send and had to run off to be sick and when I came back my laptop had crashed O:|

Anyhoo I am nearly 13 wks pregnant with twins and have a 7 year old dd at home. I have so many questions this time round. about what equipment to get? what buggy? to sleep them together or not together?

The birth!!! Scary! I watched a twin c-section on youtube I do not know what posessed me to do it. Have my booking scan on thursday and will be attening CUMH so hoping they are nice and will give me some info Idont mind being induced I was induced with DD at 10 days over and she finally arrived 12 days over! But I dont want pain relief and hoping to avoid a section too.

I hope you dont mind me popping on and reading up this thread and asking for some advice.

Hi Katiemomma and Cograts!!!

It's mad all the things that go through your head when you find out you're having twins isn't it? Are they ID or fraternal? I've fraternal twin boys who are two now and the best fun ever. I've a 3.5 year old too so it can be mad at times but I wouldn't change it for the world.

Re what do you need yeah it's crazy how much you need to buy, I bought a lot second hand and bought the nipper 360 buggy which is suitable from birth. It's a great buggy for the 6 month old plus twins but you can't attach car seats or carry cots to the buggy which would have been helpful but not the end of the world. It's fine for newborns too but I really would have loved to be able to attach the car seats in the early days. I slept both together from day 1 - around 8 months old then moved them into two cot beds. I only got two of the essential things like car seats, sterilisers, etc but other than that I managed as much as possible with just one. I slept them in a travel cot downstairs during the day until they moved into two cot beds upstairs for naps.

Re: the birth I had a section because of the way they were lying but you don't have to go the section route unless there is a problem or the first on isn't head down. I got to 38 + 3 weeks and probably would have gone on to 40 weeks if they were to be born naturally.
I had a natural birth on my first so it was different with the twins but no different than any other section from what I've heard.

I can't think what else if you have any particular questions fire away.

3littlemen did you bottle feed? or breastfeed?
What did ye all do?
I was asked at my booking in scan I havent given it much thought. I tried with dd but after 4 days I gave up and was much happier I would rather be either determined to do it this time or straight onto formula either one from the beginning and no trying it out and crying if it doesnt work out again. I just know it will be hard from the start anyway with twins and think the BF will push me over the edge tbh.

3littlemen can you use it from birth the 360 nipper buggy? Did you go out much the first few months?

Hi Katiemomma, and a big congrats too :o)ll :o)ll very exciting.

My twins were born early so I expressed milk for the first while and then changed to formula a couple of weeks after they came home as I just couldn't keep up with the feedings/expressing and trying to get whatever sleep I could when my dh was back at work. I would just say do whatever suits you. I am a big believer in 'happy mammy, happy baby/babies'. Some of the girls here did breastfeed so they may have advice for you if you wanted to, but you know yourself best :)

I've had a few buggies. Had the icandy pear at the start which was great for clicking the car seats in and out of but I sold it on when they were about 1 or bit older as I just began to find it a pain putting it all together out of the car etc. I would have gotten the nipper but it wouldn't fit in through my front door so that was out for me. I have a baby jogger city mini which is a great buggy that can be used from birth. There is also the option of a maclaren style double, we have one that stays in the car for shopping centre trips etc but they are getting heavy in that now too lol. There really is no perfect buggy. I love the bj city select but that wasn't out when mine were born. I read yesterday that phil and teds are releasing a new inline buggy next year that can be used for new born twins and looks great. It seems to have two bassinetts that turn into two seats later. Its called the 'promenade'. Anyway hope that helps. Just have a think about what you will use it for, walking/shopping etc.

Also, as mine were separated in the nic unit when born I never slept them together. We used two moses baskets at the beginning and then we had two small cots in our room. They are in separate cot beds in their own rooms now for a good while.

I had mine naturally, well I had an epidural. I was recommended the epidural as it was a twin birth but I'm sure you could discuss it with the hospital.

Anyway hth and big congrats again. Feel free to ask any questions :)

I'm back again but not with good news. My sister is having a misscarraige and has lost both babies unfortunately. She was just over 9 weeks and just getting used to the idea. It's so hard for her after all the excitment.

I breastfed at the start but I couldn't keep up with it, minding a toddler and managing all the visitors I couldn't keep it up. Plus mine had really bad reflux so I could spend over an hour feeding one and he would bring it all back up and then the same would happen with the second one so I moved to bottles. Not that was any better for their reflux but we could try different reflux formulas till we found one that worked a bit.

You can use the nipper from birth though with a c-section birth and a toddler to mind at home I didn't get out much the first few months plus the snow hit hard that year so we were snowed in a bit too. It lays flat and it a great all round buggy but like M2T said there's no perfect buggy out there so it has its downsides too. After 6 months the babies would have been too heavy to click in the car seats so it's an expensive addition to have and I really wouldn't have got any use out of the carry cots. You might pick up a second hand nipper easy enough as they age well. Mine is like new and I use it every day. I have a kid sit seat for my 3 year old too and can push all 3 with one hand it's very light but very strong. One annoyance for me is lifting it out of the car and putting it up it’s a bit awkward but that’s more to me being small than anything else. You can put it up and down very quickly which is really important in the rain when you’ve to load to babies into the car then throw it in the boot. If I had the money and my choice again I would love the BJ city select but I couldn’t afford it and it wasn’t available when I had mine anyway.
