New IVF/IUI Thread

Re: New IVF/IUI Thread

Postby OurYear » Fri May 11, 2022 10:51 am

AuntieD...I had a similar thing happen to me on my first ICSI cycle (which was the only long protocol one I did). From the start everything seemed to go against me. Like you every hurdle was a struggle.... the down reg...the lining wasn't thin enough.. my bloods were all wrong. They did give me the go ahead to start after much debate...(which in retrospect didn't do me any favours, but like you the thoughts of more waiting to go again was devastating to em so I did put pressure on them to just give me a chance...I just wanted to get going!!!). Anyways I didn't reponsd great to the drugs, and had the whole cycle cancelled just before I was due to get a date for EC. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO upset. ANyways they switched me to short protocl and allowed me to go again after one month break. HOnest to GOD....the short protocl was a dream compared to the long one - I felt like I was sniffing for an age on the long one. LIke the others said you really wont feel the short protocol...it goes SOOOOOOOO fast in 2 weeks from the start you are on the TWW. And I reacted so much better on the short protocol also. The cycle ran smoothly from the start, such a different experience. If your cycle is cancelled today... please dont feel it's the end of the world (i've been there and I did....but looking back it was the most sensible thing to do and it was benefitial in that they now knew the short protocl was the one for me). BTW My clinic were really sound and didn't charge me at all for that cycle (even though I went all the way to EC).
It is such an expensive process...even if they come back and say 'you can start' be sure they are happy that your chances wont be compromised.
I went to accupuncture, hypnotherapy and counselling when I was going through fertility treatment (not all at once... but at different stages). For me I have to say I probably got most benefit from the last two. Definitely do suss out a counsellor, I've never heard anyone on these forums saying they did not get benefit from talking to one.
4 No. IUI's + 3 No, ICSI's = 1 little miracle!

Regular reader of this thread but have never posted before so hope you don't mind me jumping in.
Felt I had to post today especially for Stillwaiting.... Would you believe that I got a call like yours exactly this day last year 11/5/11. I was told the exact same as you only worse, that out of 16 eggs collected only 2 had fertilised!! To say we were gutted was an understatement but I've a very positive DH who helped to keep me positive and sane despite my tears. Anyway fast forward to one year later and would you believe that of the two transferred one of those is now my 14 week old DS who is fast asleep beside me. So remember as the others have said it only takes one, try and keep positive and believe it will work.

Wishing you all lots & lots of :babydust: and the BFP's that you all so deserve

Hi girls, can't believe how busy it's been on here and I've only time for a flying visit.

Still Waiting, I hope with all my heart that the 2 little embies you have are fighters, that you get to ET and they snuggle in tight *)

Busby, Best of luck for FET, will be thinking of you next week.

JB, Enjoy the 2 weeks with your feet up - hope it all pays off.

AFM, We got word today that EC is to be Wednesday so flying out on Tuesday. Felt bad leaving it so late to confirm my ‘holiday’ dates at work but at least the dates I’m going to be out are the ones I’d provisionally booked so it’s not so bad. Excited and nervous all in one but can’t wait to get out there now. Better go as it's now my last day in work before the holiday and I've loads to get through, :babydust: to everyone I haven't had time to mention.
TTC #1 since April 2008. MMC in June 2009
First IVF cycle with Sims Oct/Nov 2011 - 4 follicles, 1 egg, didn't fertilise.
2nd IVF cycle started end Jan 2012, 3 eggs, 1 fertilised, transfer cancelled on the day it was due to take place.
3rd IVF cycle May 2012 with Cube in Prague. 6 eggs, 4 fertilised, 2 transferred, none frozen. BFN
4th IVF cycle July 2012 with Cube in Prague. Hope this is the one as I'm not sure I'm able to take many more of those damn steps.

To get through the hardest journey we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping.

Ladies, just got the call from the lovely nurses in HARI. Basically looks like they are going to try drain the cyst on Monday or Tuesday and see what happens in a few days. She said I'd have to fast and then have someone with me after as I'd not be able to drive....do I have to get knocked out??
so, for now, it's not cancelled...just drawn out!

She said my bloods went from 219 to 332 which means my body is geting oestrogen from the thing. Weird, my ovaries weren't working right and NOW they act up lol

anyway, it's not over til the fat lady sings and I've not started yet :o0

Have a lovely weekend everyone. I hope to get on here over the weekend.
Thanks all for the kind words and wishes xxx :babydust: :babydust: :babydust:

First time posting on TTC. I was on WOL for my wedding plans (which was great) and didn't know about TCC. I'm so glad you have this thread. I needed to read some words of encouragement.

OH and I have been trying for 4 years now. O and SA all ok. We started off slow with all the non-invasive stuff, then went to IVF. 2 cycles cancelled due to non-response. Tried antagonist and it worked much better. But today we just got that call that after finally getting to the point of EC and having 7 mature eggs, NONE of them fertilized. We couldn't believe it. We weren't prepared for that possibility. We thought the worse case would be 1 or 2 embryos. We simply can't believe nothing happened. Stillwaiting and Springlove, thanks for posting your results. It helps to know that in-fertilisation does happens and we're not just extremely unlucky. And I really, really needed to hear that it can work out in the end Springlove, thanks.

The worse part of it is the knowledge that all those injections, scans, blood tests, scheduling your job around it all, paying the €5,000..was all for bloody nothing. I'm finding it hard at the moment to even contemplate putting myself and OH through all that again. I guess time will heal, huh?

I really think clinics should save sperm and use icsi if the eggs fail to fertilise I've def read in my extensive research that some clinics do this!!!

I never even thought what if no eggs fertilise, but I guess as our eggs get older it's not as easy to get through the shell, I am so thanfull that 5 of ours did but it still seams low out of 11 eggs!! Girls thanks for sharing your stories!!! I hope ye find strengt from somewhere to get through this!!

Auntyd I would insist on getting knocked out !!!! Its something you don't want to be awake for!!! Please god you can get started then!! Have you given acupuncture any thoughts to help with your lining?? :lvs :lvs
First IVF starts April 25th!!!
2 extraordinary embryos transferred 8th may, OTD 22nd may!!!

Thanks Jewellb. OH and I are still confused as to why they can't do ICSI once they see that normal fertilisation isn't happening or why they can't have OH provide more sperm to inject and see if they work better. It just seems such a waste of 7 good eggs!

I hadn't thought about the shell getting harder with age. It would make sense then if nothing else is wrong with OH or I. We have a debriefing with the doctor next week and I'll bring that up. Thanks Jewellb!

Hi Girls,

Pesto24 I'm really sorry to hear your news...I know you must be devasted at this stage and as you say all the money time extra seems to be such a massive waste of time....We have completely put our lives on hold for the last year and a half and you have to wonder what it is all for but hopefully we will get our BFP at some stage and forget about all these trials along the way....I got a BFP in Aug from IUI and today would have been my due date if I hadn't lost it so I was hoping that today would be a lucky day for me...I'm just praying that one of mine survives till Sunday...Springlove thank you for posting your story it gives me so much hope now. I also have the best DH ever and he is seriously a rock don't know what i would do without him.
Leaf great it is all moving for you...best of luck with the travelling and enjoy your time off.
AuntieD hopefully this time next week you will be stimming fingers crossed

Hi girls,

God it's been very busy on here today!! First off still waiting sorry the news you got today wasn't better but as the famous saying goes it only takes one so fingers crossed you have 2 little fighters there & you get to transfer xx
AuntieD great news that they are going to drain the cyst, please god this will work & your cycle will only be delayed.

So sorry to hear your news pesto x that is one of my fears that nothing fertilises so I was actually only talking to the nurse today about doing icsi even though dh's count is only borderline low.

Afm I had my day 8 scan today and I have 7 follicles all measuring 11mm-12mm and about 4 or 5 smaller ones measuring 8-9mm so we are delighted as its another hurdle we've got over. I have to go back on Monday for another scan with ec on Wednesday or Thursday so around the same day as you Leaf!!

Hi to everyone else :wv
