Anyone starting IVF/ICSI in Sims soon?

Bopbopbaby, like Wannabfp was saying, the SIS is not too bad, I am the WORST for those things, couldn't bear the endo biopsy and had to be sent to mount carmel to have it done under anaesthetic and nearly passed out during my recent HSG but I foudn the SIS ok, so you should be fine. Best of luck with it, did you get your AMH tested yet?

quick question for any of the dhea girls, whats the longest anyone has taken it? i will be on it five months when we cycle and ive read that four months is when it peaks so im afraid if we cycle after the five months we will have missed the boat? im have a phone consult with the clinic but was wondering in the meantime?

Hey shalloecat, long time no speak. I was on DHEA 4 months, sims told me that was the longest anyone could be on it, wouldn't prescribe anymore? you're on it 5 months? Hvae you gotten your DHEA levels tested to make sure they're not too high, and your liver function?

good to hear from you too hopeful! its a long old journey isnt it.

im four months on it now, but by the time we cycle i will be a little over 5 months on it. they ran it past dr w that i couldnt cycle till aug and he said it was fine to continue and to stop a week before af is due (we will be doing microflare as this is the preferred regime with dhea) so today i get a call from my nurse to day dr w has now said to keep up the dhea untill i get af,

in the meantime i did a bit of googleing re the lenght of time to be on dhea and its looking like four is really the best time, so im worried its gonna be a waste of time, if my notes were just scanned over then they may not really take into account that ive been on its so long. ive been getting lots of things checked monthly and all levels are fine so far. he'll be giving me a buzz at some stage tomorrow so we'll see then, i so hope we havnt messed up this chance, there is really no hope on our own without dhea.

It certainly is, a bit longer for some of us than others as well unfortunately!

I don't think it'll do you much harm to be on it a few weeks longer. I think as long as you've been getting your levels checked then it should be fine. If Dr. W thinks you can stay on it as well, then stick with it. Really hope it makes a difference for you, I took it for the 4 months up to my cycle in Gennet, we did ICSI and we had two excellent grade 1 3 day 8 cell embies transferred. Didn't work but I put that down to my implantation/immune problems rather than the embies which were really good.

thanks for that hopeful, maybe im just a bit nervouse they arnt reading my chart thouroghly enough, often i find when taking to them that dont have the facts exact, so i just want to be dead sure, 6k is too much to lose now, id much rather not go at all than go half heartedly.

your with london now, how do you find them? whats your plan, i have the greatest respect for you for fighting the fight. :thnk

Right back at you hon :thnk

You are dead right to be double checking everything with them, they are so busy, things can slip through the cracks. You sound on top of everything though fair play.

yeah, we decided to really throw everything at this, I really think it's my immune problems causing the problem. I had a HSG a few weeks ago which showed one of my tubes are open, my Day 21s are showing I'm ovulating, DH is fine, so even though I have a low AMH I am still working IYKWIM so really I think it's just the implantation issue. I have been on a gluten & wheat free diet since the start of May. Gluten is evil when it comes to fertility!!!! Am also on certain things and off other things, all in a bid to help the cytokines go down. I find ARGC a bit all over the place, but by all accounts they are great when you are actually cycling, the worst of it is (as it always is!) the waiting - I had hoped to cycle in May, but that was scuppered when my cytokines came back so high (64!). I have my theory that it was because of the wheatgrass I was on (to help lower my FSH) so went straight off that, onto the diet, and the two injections of humira.

Anyway, depending on the chicago retest, if they were ok I'd go for CD2 bloods to check my FSH, LH, prolactin and estradiol. If they were ok i could start cycling. It's a lot of 'ifs'...

It will cost roughly Eur15,000 including the IVF, all the daily bloods, scans, accommodation, flights etc. I'm also not working at the mo as I'd hoped to cycle in may and would have needed the full month off. It's hard money wise but we just feel it's something we have to try. The tailored approach they take, the fact they wont' let you cycle till you are in the best shape hormone and immune wise is what I need very badly at this stage.

Sorry getting off the point of this thread. Will check in to see how you are getting on xx

Hi all

Just interested to know how Sims is these days, has the move to the new location/premises made any difference to the length of waiting for scans/bloods etc? Have the prices changed very much, I see that they are including 'cycling bloods' in the overall cost now, these bloods were the subject of a lot of discussion when we set this thread up a couple of years ago.

Is anyone cycling there now who cycled with them before they moved? Would just be interested to know if things are different (changed for the better)?

Hi Hopeful1973

Firstly, I'm so sorry to read your ticker :action32 I hope you are feeling ok, though I'm sure you are numb to it all at this stage. It's so sad as you put so much into your last cycle - here's hoping you can move forward with a new plan of action *) God, this journey is tough, but no-one can say you haven't given it your all so far.. :action32 We've heard a few good news stories recently (KarenKatie after 5 1/2 yrs, Ballyhooley etc) so hopefully we can all take some comfort in that.

I'm starting my third IVF / ICSI with SIMs on my next cycle. To be honest the last one (March) had much improved in terms of waiting times etc, though I personally didn't find them toooo bad the first time (Nov last yr). We've been into the new clinic for our review, bloods, dna frag for DH recently and the premises are great - it is definitely a big improvement and there are different waiting areas depending on what you are in for - i.e. the consultations are in a seperate area to where the scans take place. Apparently there are private recovery areas also, which I am glad about as you don't want everybody knowing your business.. I will never say it's fantastic though, that is until I get my BFP and then I'll be raving about them!! :compress Re: bloods - they are included, but they are still charging for them, albeit at a discounted rate, so we're definitely still forking out. A few things I am a bit disappointed with - the fact that DH has only now being asked for DNA Frag test and the fact that I am only just being put on Eltroxin - surely to God we should have done all of those things before the first cycle!! Anywhooo, I'm trying to remain positive that this will work.. it'll be last chance saloon as funds are depleted at this stage!!

Anyways, I just wanted to send you all my best. I'm sure there are other SIMS ladies cycling at the mo who can give ye better details. Best of luck to all cycling

Hi BabyBubble

thanks for the reply hon x

Not numb unfortunately, this one is hitting me hard. Even DH is not coping well. I truly believed ARGC, with their excellent results, would do it for us - but it wasn't to be, yet again. We put so much into this one, I left work, we spent so much money, I was in London for a month, I changed my diet, I took new supplements, I had IVIG, we got to blast and had two good blasts transferred, and it still didn't work. At this stage, the 'diagnostic' element of IVF really should have been diagnosed. Am sick to death of it all.

Can't even believe I'm contemplating Sims again, but they were where we got our most positive result and the thought of cycling abroad again does not appeal at the moment.

I'm always surprised when I hear they haven't tested the men for DNA fragmentation, it was one of the first tests we had done, back in December 09. I suppose we'd gone in thinking the issues were DH's which is why they did it so quickly... Did you get to blast transfer? What's Eltroxin, I've never heard of it?

Best of luck with your next go hon :babydust: :babydust: :babydust:

Hi Ladies - just a quick one, i saw the pricelist for Sims on their website - does that price include the medication you have to get i.e injections etc? or is that extra?

Also I read somewhere you can claim some money back from the irish government, is that correct?

thanks

ExcitingTimes no that doesn't include ANY meds - but you can get all meds on the DPS scheme so you'll only spend Eur120 for everything once you get it all within one month. If you haven't signed up now do. They will probably advise you to go to Medipharm as they are very clued in with regard to meds, I go to the one in Georges Street and they are great. But there's also one in Dundrum and somewhere else, I forget where.

You can claim back on the Med1 form at the end of the year - just remember to keep all your receipts!! I claimed for last year which included 2 IVFs and got a call saying they wanted my receipts as I was claiming for so much. So I copied them and sent them in - they sent them back when they were finished with them. Just keep everything together in one place, then tot everything up at the end of the year. You get 20% back if memory serves me correctly. You can also claim for your GP visits and anything else like that during the year all together.
