Hiya,

We got engaged 2 weeks ago today and have seen some major differences in pricing. We've pretty much decided on one hotel in Cavan.

We are getting Sparkling wine, strawberries, tea, coffee and biccie reception (with champagne and canapes for bridal party), 5 course meal (choice of mains plus veggie options) with half bottle wine per person, evening reception of tea, coffee, sausages and sandwiches. Reception is decorated beautifully (flowers and candles). Bridal suite and 4 bedrooms f.o.c. for €6000 for 120 guests.

Flowers I've been quoted max of €500 for the following: 1 bridal posey, 1 bm posey, i small posey for fg, 4 buttonholes, 2 corsages, 2 gift bouquets for the mammies, 2 pedestals for church, altar display with candles for church and pew ends for every 3rd row (ribbon and cala lily). If we choose less flowers or more in season ones its less.

Church, I've been advised by presbytery to give €50-€100 donation as its my mam's parish (not her church though). But I think we'll give about €200 including priest and a few quid for the altar boy/girl if there is one.

Cars - I'm not sure that I want to hire any because it's so dear and the last few weddings I've been at have all used nice cars that friends or family owned.

Band and DJ - best quote I've had is for approx €1500 in total - but for more popular bands (incl DJ) I'd budget €2500.

Dress - I want something simple (empire or princess - without too much going on!) and I've seen a couple of amazing dresses for €500. I've been told by all family and friends to go to ondon for this as there is a better selection for this price.

Suit hire: My h2b is going to buy a new suit (he needs one) but we've gotten quotes for best man and €60 for a nice black suit, shirt and tie - h2b wants no waistcoats, cravats etc.

I hope this helps.

P.S. Wedding booked for 1st May 2011.

I have an excel sheet with the budget and the breakdown appox as follows:
Item approx %
Reception 50%
Ceremony 2%
Attire 10%
Flowers 8%
Music 8%
Photo/DVD10%
Stationery 2%
Rings 2%
Gifts 2%
Transport 2%
Misc 4%

If you are an excel geek you should be able to work out how much you have for each item - so far we are under budget and have all the big things sourced apart from my dress.

Hope this helps,

Fiona

I'm sure if you did a search around you would fine one - plenty of hotels offering deals but you may need to ask them.........if any have wedding fairs coming up I'd go along to see what they have

Hi, I am saving a fortune on my wedding supplier costs thanks to the discount service which my hotel provided. Its called weddingfairsonline and once you get the discount card from your Hotel, you can access www.weddingfairsonline.ie whereby each supplier for your hotel will offer you a discount. So far i've booked my photographer and saved €200, saved €200 on the band, €100 on the videographer, €50 on the wedding cake, etc. it all adds up.

Its about time that Hotels made an effort to help us to save on the services provided outside the Hotel.

Oh my god I am shocked by the way the bill seems to add up after reading through this.

Myself and partner at the planning stage and have found our venue.
We are having 100 people at wedding, mostly family and close friends only as we want to be able to talk to everyone that day.

Our venue is costing us €3000 for midweek wedding.
This includes:
Red Carpet & champagne for bridal party.
Tea,Coffee,Canapes for guests.
Bridal Suite
2 Bedrooms for Parents.
5 course meal.
Drink of choice for toast.
Evening Food
Chair Covers
Candles and Flowers on all Tables
Bar Extension.

I have budgeted €4000 for everything else with mam doing flowers and have photographer friend. No cars either as it will push budget up too high.Dont want a band either as its a young wedding and any wedding I've been at no-one gets up until the dj comes on no matterhow good the band were...

But if i'm missing something can someone pleae let me know what else I should add on to the budget?

Thanks

Hi Grar,

Try Bunratty Castle Hotel - we had them as our second choice - they had great prices and are lovely. There is an all inclusive package for €48pp which is really good.
