Am still fairly early on in the planning. Not sure how much the final cost will be. Got a sample menu from hotel of 45 per person so 9000, but that does not include wine with meal or evening reception. We will be having around 200 guests. Band was expensive but NYE so that was expected. Trying to book hair and make up at moment. Will be shopping around for everything.

I'm getting married in Sept and the budget is about 17, 500K ish. Looking for bargains everywhere though cos I refuse to be in debt after it, its not a good thing to start your marriage off in debt

Hope to do it for 10k. Food for 80 is coming in about 7000 Euro. So it looks possible. Also dont want to be in debt after it. 2 years of savings ahead though.

It's amazing things you wouldn't think of that come up.

Seriously like - make-up (even if you do it yourself you'll prob buy some), hair (you'll end up buying something for your hair whether it's clips or whatnot), brides dress & bridesmaid dress, flowers, shoes, band, marraige license, wedding cake (I mean even if you make it yourself it will prob cost 50euro), invites (again I'm making mine , but still will be 150euro at least), gift for bmaids, mothers, groom mens suit hire - the list goes on!!!

I think though we'll be under 20grand, with approx 100 guests.
At the moment looks like will be 18,000 ish.

I am sure you are right but I will bargain left right and centre and search for the next two years to get things cheaper. 10k is my goal. The wedding has brought out the best in me, I have stopped spending.

I totally agree with you, I don't think anyone should go into debt for their wedding. I think honestly like it's the worst thing to start into married life like with -20,000K hanging over you.

I reckon no matter how it is done it's still going to be a great day. I was trying to do it for 15,000, but nto likely. I'll still be pretty pleased to have it under 20K, don't feel it's tooooo mad.

2 years should give you time to save like mad also like, and as you say, you've plenty of time to keep an eye out for the deals!!

I think if I try bring it in for 10k and we go 20% over budget its only another 2k. But if you give me 20k I will spend it. I saw a post from another wollie about saving every month and paying for things out of cash when she had it. Leaving the savings alone. I think thats a great idea and so does my OH. So we are going to do that. Whats 50 Euro here and there.

yeah, thats what we're doing. We opened a regular saver account with AIB and we're saving 500 each a month which is a bit of a struggle but there's great interest from it and at least we're forced to save it cos it comes straight out of our account. We're lucky to still have our jobs though. If it was left up to us to go to a bank and put the money in we'd never do it.
I've already got a few bits and pieces along the way like my wedding shoes. I got them in Barretts for 35 and they are plain but lovely and will do the job just fine. I also got my bridesmaids on sale in debenhams for 60 each.
I've gotten silly little necessities too like my garter and hair accessories that i see on sale.
I'm currently shopping around for invitations. Theres a place in sandyford i think and they have a website called too, www.DIYweddings.com and planning to go out to them soon.
All weddings are gorgeous I think and no one cares if something costs 50 quid or 500, its a day out for them and they get fed.

I completely agree. My friend got married a year ago and she told me the break down of costs, I nearly died. :eek That spurned the cost control.

Yep definitely its easy to get carried away and kindof think "era sure what's another 500euro when I'm already spending 2000K" type of thing.

You are right to buy as you go, I've paid for my dress, shoes as I got them, and deposits paid are all covered off too. Have been saving monthly also. I wouldn't go into debt for a wedding if you can have one without going into debt, as ye say, it's about the day, not about the extras, and no matter what you'll enjoy it !

Exactly. I am only having 80 people there that we care and know. This is already creating problems. But at least I can say its limited numbers.

hi

We're going against the trend. Getting a loan to cover the expenses coming up to the BIG DAY! We estimate with a month long honeymoon and about 220 guests that we're spending 15-20k. We have saved where possible-bought my dress on sale, bm dresses from china, saved on my shoes, making my invites, mass booklets (sourced up north-where h2b is from!) Groomsmen suits a third of the price up north too! One of our biggest expenses is our honeymoon.
